Liturgical Ministers - April 30th/May 1st

C l u s t e r News 5th Sunday of Easter "This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." When people watch us, do they know that we are the disciples of Jesus? As Christians, we are called to do more than love the Lord. We are called to be his witnesses in the world by loving others as well. In today's Gospel reading, he gave us a new commandment, "As I have loved you, so you also should love one another." Anyone, every-one, should be able to look at us and see this love in action. If we are not witnesses to this love, then we are falling short of our mission. So, how did Jesus love us? Selflessly. His love was never motivated by personal gain. On the contrary, he often suffered for us, and not just on the cross. He faced rejection and animosity for loving those who were considered "unlovable" in his culture. He lived a life of poverty and simplicity, never focused on amass-ing things for himself, but always willing to give of him-self. This is the love we are called to imitate. The task can feel daunting. We are not perfect peo-ple, and being witnesses to Christ-like love can strike us as a lofty challenge. Of course, it's easier to be selfless and generous with people who love us in re-turn, or with those who stir our compassion. But to be consistent witnesses to loving one another in all cir-cumstances--like Jesus does for us--that takes it to another level. Thankfully, however, Jesus doesn't ex-pect us to do this on our own. He promises us his Spirit to live in us and love through us. Through our baptism, we have his Spirit dwelling in our hearts, along with the supernatural gifts of faith, hope, and love. May we make these gifts flourish.

From The Pastor Recently I received notification from Archbishop Jackels of my appointment as pastor to St. Matthews Parish in Cedar Rapids effective July 12, 2016. Life as we know is always changing and everything, whether good or bad, will eventually come to an end. And while I certainly would have liked to remain here for a few more years, I trust the decision of the Archbishop is in the best interest of the Archdiocese and the flock he shepherds. I am both honored and humbled to have had the opportunity to serve as your pastor these past four years, and I wish to extend to all of you my heartfelt gratitude for allowing me to do so. There is always sorrow in leaving; however, I have a deep sense of joy and thanksgiving as well for those things we have accomplished during my short time here—both at the parish and cluster levels. We have shared great joys and real sorrows together, and we have always taken these things back to the Lord in our celebration of the Holy Eucharist. I pray you con-tinue to do so for many years to come. I ask also that you pray for me in my new assignment and for your ‘soon to be’ new pastor Fr. Mark Murphy. I am sure you will be pleased with his gifts and talent for minis-try. Please do welcome him as you welcomed me to this cluster. Know always of my continued prayers for you and may God bless you. -Fr. Steve

Child 31 Short Film In 1992, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow and his brother decided to take a week off work to deliver aid in the Bal-kan conflict. Little did he know that one trip would change the path of his life. His relief project turned into Mary’s Meals which feeds and educates over 1 million children today. Come watch this short film that takes us to three countries to see first-hand these children’s lives and the difference a daily dose of caring can make. The film will be shown at the following place and time:
