SAINT CECILIA SCHOOL FRIDAY NEWSLETTER September 28, 2018 Dear St. Cecilia Family, Fall is here! The temperatures have dipped and we are seeing a bit of precipitation. Please make sure your kiddos are dressed appropriately for the weather since we will go outside for recess whenever we are able. The gym has been utilized for indoor recess much to the students' happiness. We have made a schedule of use for our lower school and all upper school goes together. There is plenty of room because of the workroom choice given to the upper school students. I have met with Katie Jones and Jennifer Gallagher Moore the president and vice president of PTO. They have some wonderful new ideas as well as keeping some of the tried and true activities of the PTO. The organization is a true gift to our school. Please consider getting involved. We had a fantastic turn out for the first meeting, and we want to keep the momentum going. Please feel welcome to attend the second meeting of the year on Thursday, October 4 at 7:00 in meeting rooms A & B. Our eighth graders had a fantastic time at Bishop Ready High School this week and were fantastic ambassadors for St. Cecilia School and Parish. We received multiple compliments for their behavior and representation. Bishop Ready will follow up on Tuesday, October 2nd with a brief visit with the eighth graders here at St. Cecilia to pass out admission packets. Please ask your students for those packets when they get home as they will have important information. On Wednesday, October 3 immediately following our all-school Mass, we are holding our student council induction with a featured guest speaker in the church, Burnett Purnell who is a recent member of the St. Cecilia Parish and will be speaking on leadership. Please come and enjoy the morning in Christ's presence and celebrating leadership here at our school. If your child missed pictures last week, no worries. Retakes are scheduled for Friday, October 12. Please send in the order form with payment on or before then. First quarter interims will be sent today via SchoolSpeak! Please make sure you view your child's progress report so you are aware of your child's progress so far. I always caution parents that we are still very early in the year and the children are still adapting to their new teachers and the expectations of the given grade. First quarter interims are an early glimpse and should be viewed as a guide for questions you may have regarding your child's life in the classroom. Please feel free to contact teachers with questions or concerns. Finally, if you would prefer a paper copy, please let the office know and we will send one home on a sealed envelope with your child. I wish you all a happy weekend and I'll see all of your children on Monday! Mrs. Lori Smith

Atentamente

Lori Smith, Directora

Please mark your calendars for our annual St. Cecilia craft show on October 20th. Look for volunteer signups on School speak in the next week. We especially need some strong muscles to help set-up on Friday the 19th and for tear down Saturday after the show at 3:00pm. Get your volunteer hours and help make our show a success. STAY IN THE KNOW – CHECK IT EVERYDAY!

NURSE’S NEWS Michele Rhodes 614-878-3555, ext. 112

There has been diagnosed positive Strep in both 1st grade and 3rd grades. Symptoms to look for include:

Fever.

Swollen lymph nodes in the neck.

Red, swollen tonsils.

Little red and/or white spots in the back of the throat.

Headache.

If your child has any of these symptoms, please seek the care of a medical professional. Strep requires antibiotics and is very contagious!

If your student has a fever, please do not send them to school until they have been fever free without medicine for 24 hours. If your student has been vomiting, please do not send them to school until it has been 24 hours since they have last vomited.

On Monday, SchoolSpeak forms went home. Even if there have been no recent changes to your information, please fill out the cell phone provider field and return to us. Once we have your cell phone provider, we will be able to send texts as well as e-mails from SchoolSpeak. We think this will make our communication efforts even better!

IT’S FLU SHOT TIME! Research shows that it is most effective if you get your shot before the end of October!
