9:30 AM People of Our Parish

From Our Pastor:Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, we read this Sunday from Saint Luke’s Gospel

about Jesus Christ giving the sermon on the plain This is the first message that the Twelve Apostles hear Jesus preach after He had selected them to be Apostles And in this sermon, Jesus levels so many of our preconceptions (Luke 6:17, 20-26) Indeed, He declares blessed the poor, the hungry, the weeping, and the hated – for these are the children of God who know that they are in need of the Redeemer, Jesus Christ These children are blessed because their hearts cry out in longing and expectation for what can only be satisfied by God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit Conversely, the rich, the self-satisfied, complacent, and the superficially popular are those whose hearts turn away from the Lord by indulging in finite things, indulging in alluring things insufficient to the heart Blessed are they who trust not in themselves, but trust in the Lord by refusing to become discouraged by their own fragility, limitation, and need God calls me blessed when I hope not in myself, but in Him, in the Lord This hope in God is, in fact, an indisputable sign that Jesus Christ has been crucified and is risen from the dead

Christians, disciples of Jesus Christ, have their hope in God (Father Francis Fernandez, In Conversation with God) As Christians, Catholic and protestant, we know and accept our own weakness and do not depend inordinately on our own resources We know that in any undertaking we must use all the human means open to us, but that above all we must rely on God’s grace, His strength, and that we must turn to Him in prayer This takes humility, which is foundational to our relationship with God Humility helps us to know and accept joyfully that everything good that we have we have received from God Humility is not a matter of despising ourselves, because God does not despise us, the work of His hands Simply put, humility consists in getting the right order of Jesus, Others, Yourself – “forgetting” ourselves and sincerely thinking about others Such interior simplicity leads us to be aware that we are children of God Saint Josemaría Escrivá has stated: “At the very moment when everything seems to be collapsing before our eyes, we realize that quite the opposite is the case, ‘for You, Lord, are my strength’ (Psalm 42:2) If God is dwelling in our soul, everything else, no matter how important it may seem, is accidental and transitory, whereas we, in God, stand permanent and firm” (Friends of God, #42) In the midst of our frailty, in whatever form our weakness presents itself, we turn by God’s grace to His mercy, and we take our stand together for life, in faith, hope and love, in God’s infinite, indestructible strength and firmness, His infinite mercy and love

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William

SAINT CLEMENT SCHOOL

ADULT EDUCATION OFFERINGOn Wednesday, February 20, we’ll be viewing the video, “An

Ordinary Martyr,” which we missed last week due to the weather On Wednesday, February 27, we will be watching a video on the life of St Augustine Part of the Pivotal Players series by Bishop Robert Barron, “St Augustine: The Teacher” looks at two of his writings, namely The Confessions and The City of God. We will gather in the parish office meeting room at 9:00 AM, with sessions lasting about an hour and a half Everyone is welcome Please contact Bill Manthe at the parish office if you have any questions

PLEASE NOTE!Please look for your year-end envelope on the tables by the Holy

Water Font, as every registered family will receive one Please only take your family’s envelope However, we would appreciate your assistance in spreading the word so that your family, friends and neighbors pick up their envelope and reduce our cost to mail them Contact Katie at the parish office (723-4990) if your envelope is missing, you would like a detailed statement or you have any questions

PRAY TO END ABORTION!Please join Judy and Bill Seyer Wednesday nights 6:00 PM to

6:45 PM in the Our Lady of Fatima Chapel to pray for an end to abortion, and for healing for all those affected by it The power of prayer and grace of God can overcome the evil of abortion and the pervading culture of death in our world, as well as God’s divine healing and hope The recent laws passed by states like New York that allow the killing of children up to the moment of birth, and even after birth, have been very difficult to understand and comprehend Let us lift our hearts and our prayers to God for an end to this evil, offer reparation for these sins, and ask the Lord to heal those who have been wounded by abortion Bring your family and your friends This evening of prayer will be offered every Wednesday, 6:00 – 6:45 PM, in the Fatima Chapel

IN MEMORIAMPlease remember in your prayers two outstanding men of our

parish who died recently Joe Friederick died on February 2 at the age of 87, and his funeral Mass was offered on February 9 Joe was a man of the land, finding his calling as a farmer, working the fields and tending the cattle Along with his wife Mary and his family, Joe’s work ethic on the farm brought them much recognition over the years Joe’s biggest accomplishment was that of his family He married Mary Abing in 1955, and together they raised five children – David, Keith, Jim, Bruce and Andrea Joe adored his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and great-grandkids Joe was one of the most generous and humblest of men, never drawing attention to himself, but always seeking to serve and help others Joe beautifully served his family, our nation, our community and our parish Joe was a true gentleman who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him

John Walker died on February 6 and his funeral Mass was offered on February 11 John was 88 John also found his calling very early in life, quickly learning the trade of his father, a clothing businessman John excelled in his work, and people from around the tri-state area came to his store because of the excellent quality and customer service they received John also had a great team with him – his dear wife Mary Lou and his children – Jeff, David, Mike, Steve, Sharon and Tom They and his family, his daughters-in-law and son-in-law, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were all so dear to his heart Together they created many memories at home, at work, at their cabin and in Florida John also served our parish, our country and our community in countless ways

May Joe and John hear the words of Jesus to them, “Well done, My good and faithful servants…Come share Your Master’s joy!” (Mt 25:21) And may God’s consolation and comfort be with their families and friends in this time of sorrow

“Eternal rest grant unto Joe and John, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. May their souls, and the souls of all the

faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
