Showing our Time and Talent thru our website. If your organization has had an event and you would like to

share pictures and some words on what the event was about, where the money raised went to, how the local community ben-efitted etc., we welcome you to contact the parish office. SFC is a vibrant and active parish that shines within the Cambrian

Park Community and beyond.

It would be nice to see that reflected on our website!

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 24, 2016 You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also

raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

— Colossians 2:12

KEEP PRAYING St. Monica, whose feast we celebrate in August, is often known as “the persistent mother.” She watched her oldest son, Augustine, turn his back on his Christian faith.

Monica was exasperated. For years she gave up talking directly to her son on the advice of a local bishop, who told her that it was better to talk to God about Augustine then to Augus-tine about God.

The mother never gave up praying for her son. Eventually Augustine gave up his wild ways, was baptized, and later or-dained and named bishop of Hippo. St. Augustine went on to become one of the Church’s greatest scholars.

Today’s readings address the importance of persistent prayer. Abraham, in spite of trepidation that he is bothering the Lord, continues to ask about the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus, in Luke’s Gospel, tells his disciples to “ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9). This is our charge: keep praying. The Lunch Ladies of Saint Frances Cabrini A mid-year thank you to all the ladies that come in every few months to make sure we have lunches. Watching these ladies in action gives one a true sense of Time and Talent as they come together to create a solid lunch bag filled with a sandwich, chips, fruit cup, granola bar, cup-of-noodles and a drink. The lunches are then counted and put aside with the sandwiches going into the fridge to be kept fresh.

So far, this year has seen over 650 lunches that have been made and handed out to the local community.

This ministry of feeding those that come for a lunch on any given day would not be possible without you! A heart-felt thank you to Frankie Such, Liz Donaldson, Grace Wilkerson, Mary Rossetto, Eleanor Roth, Raquel Carran-za, Mary Blanco, Cecilia Herrera Evelyn Revels Linda LaRosa, Frieda Flocchini, June Sohn and Marilyn Aguilar.

Let Us Pray for the people that are in our parish community who are homebound, sick, recovering, or are confined to rest homes, that Jesus be their strength and comfort. This week we especially pray for Louisa

Guiterrez, Cathy Benson, Jill Ballard, Chayo Nuñez, Carolyn Bruner, Tania Cheater, Divina Galasinao, Britt and Amelia Moore, Stephen Reed, Bob Hitzfeld, Glenda & Jeff Kast, Joe Medoro, Sally Konopacky, Cecila Herrera, Jim O’Connell, Tricia Davis, Betty Antuzzi, Angela Cosentino. Please keep them and their families in your prayers. To place a name on this list, con-tact the Parish Office at 1-408-879-1122. You may also write the names in the Book of the Sick, next to Mary’s

The Alpha Program is coming to St. Frances Cabrini!

Alpha is a wonderful and relaxed way of finding out what Chris anity is all about. This program

serves people from non-believers to cradle Catholics. If you are someone who finds themselves teetering on the brink of non-belief, or just ques oning what life is all about, come and a end the Alpha program. Many ques ons are answered during these sessions and it is done through a DVD series and small table discussions. Bring your spouses, friends, or neigh-bors who you believe need the touch of the Holy Spirit in their hearts. Our first mee ng will be on Sept. 12, 2016, at 6:30 pm, in the Parish Center with an Introductory Dinner Ses-sion. If you have any ques ons, call Alicia Morales at (408) 857-0523.

Requests for facilities or requests having to do with the church: All Facilities Requests must be in writing on a Facilities Request form and handed

into the parish office. If you would like one mailed to you, email Jean at [email protected]. A Request Form can be picked up in the parish office.

If you have an event that includes the use of the church or need to know what’s going on any giv-en day in the church , please contact Sue at 408-

879-1130.

hold infinity in the palm of your hand

and eternity in an hour. — William Blake

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for cer-tain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that

I think I am following Your will does not mean that I am

actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You

does in fact please you.

And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.

I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that, if I do this, You will lead me by the right road,

though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore I will trust You always though I may seem to be lost

and in the shadow of death.

I will not fear, for You are ever with me,

and You will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Thomas Merton’s Most Famous Prayer

What can we do when we see family or friends struggling with faith, torn with doubt, or oblivious to love and mercy of our

heavenly Father? What can I say or do to bring them back? St. Frances Cabrini will hold a course to answer these ques-

tions beginning in the Fall.

Web-edits / Do you have recommended SFC website edits? If you are a group with SFC whose line items on our website may be outdated, this is a perfect way to get updated! (i.e., officers or contacts and information #’s, dates of events that change

with the years, etc.

Go to the Home Page at www.sfcabrini.org and click on Contact SFC (far right on Home Page) and fill out the form. Please make sure to include the web page address(es), as well as page names and location on the page where

you would like the edits to be made. Once your edits are verified and approved, please expect the edits to be completed within

24-48 hours depending on the day and time the form is re-ceived. If you would like a completely new write-up that speaks

to your group, please send to the Parish Center. Let’s show what SFC is made of!

Have you ever gone to a website for information only to find that what you are looking for is either no longer a viable number or

the information is outdated?

Refresh your group’s events pages online. It is the responsibility of each group to be sure all contacts are up to date. Please call Jean or Sue in the office if you see anything that needs to be corrected. Another set of eyes is welcome and appreciated!

ATTENTION GREETERS! We are having a “Thank You” BBQ and Bocce Ball evening Saturday, August 20th @ 6:00 PM. Details will be sent out to you soon.
