2019 MASS INTENTIONS The 2019 Mass Intentions Book will open on Wednesday, July 11. We will be accepting your Mass requests for spe-cific dates starting at 9:00am in the Parish Center Confer-ence Room and finish at noon. You can request a maxi-mum of four intentions per family at this time. Requests must be made in person. There is a $10 stipend for each Mass intention. After July 11, you may stop into the Parish Office to request Masses. Preference for specific dates are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Today is June 10, the 10th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Gospel is Mark 3:20-35. Have you ever felt judged by your family? St. John Paul II noted that the family "is the cradle of life and love." Yet unmet expectations and divergent priorities can cause tension in even the most loving family situations. This is true for us and it was true for Jesus! In today's Gospel, Jesus has returned home to Naza-reth. A large crowd gathered, and Jesus finds himself fac-ing stiff opposition from his family. This was likely Jesus' large, extended family. The Semitic language has no spe-cific words for extended relatives, so everyone is "brother" or "sister." The entire clan has gotten wind of Jesus' preaching, and they are not amused. "They set out to seize him, for they said, 'He is out of his mind.'" To make matters worse, the religious authorities accuse Jesus of being possessed by a demon. It's a mess by any stand-ards. The family's perspective is perhaps understandable. In Jewish culture, teachers and scribes underwent inten-sive schooling and apprenticeships, none of which Jesus had done. The family knew Jesus the carpenter, not Jesus the rabbi. For them, Jesus' bold preaching threatened the reputation of their family! Jesus' words to his family can seem controversial. "Who are my mother and my brothers?" Jesus had always known he would be about the business of his Heavenly Father, the business of the new covenant and the King-dom of God. In this Kingdom, we are all adopted sons and daughters of the King. Jesus begins, even now, to expand the perspective of his listeners. Being welcomed into this family does not depend on our families of birth or ethnic origin, but a wholehearted commitment to "do the will of God."

DON’T FORGET! Sunday, June 10 (today) at 10:20 a.m. - An introductory meeting for current 5th grade students and their parents about Confirmation will be held in the Church Hall. In or-der to be confirmed with the next class in the Spring of 2020, it is very important that the student and parent at-tend. Those who attended the meeting on May 14 do not need to attend this one. Sunday, June 10 (today) from 9am until 2pm, a Green Drop truck from the St. Vincent DePaul Society will be in the parking lot, accepting donations of clean clothes, small appliances, toys, books and other household items. The truck is attended and they will help you unload your car. Thursday mornings at 10:00am - It’s not too late to join in the daytime Bible study group, lead by seminarian, Henry Graebe. The fee for materials is $5. All are wel-come! Food Sunday is June 17, next weekend. Please place non-perishable food on the table in the Church Hall. Thank you for your continued support of this ministry! Baseball Mania Tickets are due by June 23. To play, drop them in the collection basket or by the Parish Office.

VACATION BIBLE CAMP Shipwrecked — Rescued by Jesus!

Don’t forget to sign up your children or grandchildren for Vacation Bible Camp! Open to children from ages 3-12. There will be games, crafts, mu-sic, and much more Monday, July 30 through Friday, August 3, from 9:00am until Noon each day! Reg-istration forms are available in the rear of church or online at the parish website. The fee is $50 per child. Can you help with decorations? We are looking for the following things to decorate our ‘island’: inflatable rafts, small lightweight boat, lots of artificial plants, greenery or bamboo, life vests and preservers, sea shells, fishing nets; think “Gilligan’s Island” for other items, but no sand, please. Sponsor a child for VBC! If you would like to help a child attend camp this year, donations are being accepted. Please place your donation in an envelope and drop it by the parish office. Please contact Kathy at 610-485-0581, ext. 5, for more information.

REGISTRATION FOR FALL 2018 PREP Before summer vacation begins, please register your children for the Fall 2018-Spring 2019 PREP school year. Early registration helps us plan for the year. Return-ing families were given re-registration forms. Parents of incoming 3- through 6- year- olds in the parish should have received registration forms by mail. Forms also can be found on the parish website under the “Education” tab. If you are new to the parish or your child has never attended PREP at St. John Fisher, please contact the Director of Religious Education, Kathy Aaronson, at 610-485-0581, ext. 5, for registration information. Register by June 30 and receive a tuition discount!

As we look at the flag of our country, let us always remem-ber its true meaning, for a flag without meaning is only a piece of cloth. The red of our flag stands for the valor and bravery of those who fought to protect our freedoms. White signifies purity and innocence, as that of our Founding Fathers’ intent to secure the rights of all. Blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice, as all are needed in any government to secure the bless- ings of God. And as our stars and stripes point to the stars of the heavens and the rays of the sun, let us never forget that our country must depend upon God’s blessing and protection.

ADVENT FAMILY NIGHT PLANNING MEETING It’s not too early to think about Advent Family Night! We will be holding a planning meeting on Monday, June 11, at 1:30pm in the Parish Center Conference Room. All are welcome to come and help with the planning of this fun evening. If you are unable to attend or have questions, please all Kathy at 610-485-0581, ext. 5.

HELP WANTED: PREP CLASSROOM AIDES There is nothing more rewarding that enriching the life of the children in our PREP program! The PREP program is in need of classroom aides for the 2018-19 school year. To learn how you can help, please call Kathy Aaronson at 610-485-0581, ext. 5.
