“Zita has been the understanding look, the kind smile, the calming presence, the steady guide. She has been our teacher by example, our inspiring model of servant leadership and an example of “love

others as I have loved you.” -The King Family Miss Wheeler has been the heart of Saint John of the Cross Parish School for forty eight years. To honor Miss Wheeler for her years of tremendous commitment and vocation, the school established the “Zita Wheeler Tribute Fund” upon her retirement.

Her primary focus was always the care and well being of the students. The monies received are used to continue to enhance our children’s safety. The fund generated $18,425. With the monies we installed new lights by the Kindergarten entrance and near the signage, blinds were placed in all classrooms for use during lockdowns. Further updates include new locks on hallway doors as well as

linking the office with phones in each classroom.

Enrollment: 649

EXPLORE Test Results: Students scored above the average score of all students taking the test

and are at or above the average local scores. Our students are well prepared for their area of

studies in high school. The scores also indicate that our students will likely be ready for their

first year of college classes.

Annual Fund Review Congratulations! St. John of the Cross Parish School achieved an all time high dollar

amount for the Annual Fund Drive. This year, the annual fund received over

$126,000. We exceeded our goal by 26%.

In 2012-13, the annual fund provided many enhancements including two new IPAd

carts with 60 IPads, new lockers in the primary wing, new desks in the 8th grade,

carpet in the music room, sink and counter in the science lab and tables in our

computer lab.

Bridging the Gap

As with many private schools, the difference between the true cost of school operations

and actual tuition charged falls to the responsibility of the Advancement Office and

direct school fundraising initiatives. The “gap” in the funding for the 2012-13 school

year was $1392.27
