Requiem Aeternam Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the friends and family of Juanita M. (Mathiew) Bournique. (Juanita Majeran’s mother). Through the mercy of God, may she rest in peace, Amen.

Sunday Reading Reflection The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit are the only way to live. Living without the seven gifts is possible but it is difficult. It is like trying to row across the Atlantic. Much better to have the wind of the Holy Spirit in your sails. One of the gifts is knowledge. What is this? It is the kind of truth that we get through study. There is knowledge we get through experience (wisdom) and there is knowledge we call understanding or street smarts. The gift of knowledge is knowledge of what? It is knowledge of God. This shows the importance of study, reading Sacred Scripture, religious education, paying attention at Mass, spiritual conversations and friendships, reading the lives of the saints. What a powerful thing. The Holy Spirit is sent from the Father and the Son and he is the third person of the Most Blessed Trinity. He lives in our hearts and enlightens our minds to know God! You can know God. This is astounding to say the least.

Going to confession renews the efficaciousness of the gifts of the Holy Spirit when we have stopped living life in Christ. What about renewing your life in Christ often and early and living with an ever growing knowledge of God? The gifts of God are beyond the greatest things and are so easy to receive. God is good. Religious education and homilies and religious conversations and Scripture and religious art are all things we need more of. These give us knowledge of God. It is hard for me to put into words but the difference this makes is all the difference there is. There are so many who not only don’t know about God but don’t think it does anything or is special. Relativism and political correctness kills our ability to know or cherish our knowing of God. We just want religious ed and homilies to be over with and few really read the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to come. That is all. He will help. He is the Helper. God Bless you, Fr. St. Martin

Senior Scholarship Attention all high school seniors in the parish who are pursuing a college degree: in support of your dreams to earn a college degree and in appreciation for your service and devotion to our parish life, we are pleased to offer you the chance to go down in St. John’s history as a winner! Submit a written or typed response (of at least 2 paragraphs) to the following questions in order to be eligible for this year’s $800 prize: What is the difference between intelligence and wisdom? Recount one instance in which your involvement at St. John’s has helped you grow in intelligence, and another in which it has helped you grow in wisdom. What are your goals for growing in intelligence and in wisdom in college, and how do you plan on achieving them?

All responses are to be submitted by Sunday, June 21st to the rectory via postal mail (Parish Scholarship, 1 School Street, Townsend MA 01469), via the white drop-off plastic bin on the front porch of the rectory, or in person. Please note on the envelope or package that it is for the parish scholarship. Good luck to all!

Hello from the Business Manager! Travis took his three best friends out to a cafe for lunch. Each of them sat down and, as was usual,

ordered a tea. The affair took place with such natural and easygoing succession that the waiter’s interruption

startled them as would a cannon blast from the neighboring table: “Travis, sir! You’re not ordering a

tea as well!?”

“I beg your pardon?!” Travis replied, grasping the edge of the table and glaring at the waiter. “Why in heaven

or on earth should I not?”

(continue to the answer below…) Happy Pentecost Sunday! What a gift it is to meditate on the presence of the Holy Spirit among us through the promise of Christ. In a time like this when we’re not able to do so much of the good things we enjoy and everywhere there are walls and restrictions to the way we wish we could live, we might be tempted to forget, or worse, to disbelieve in God’s promise that the Holy Spirit is constantly at work perfecting the world around us, transforming everyone and everything into what God created it to be. No blemishes, no imperfections. The Spirit is working in our midst in hidden ways to turn us all towards God and make the world more like heaven. Everyday. We are all called to see the truth that this is happening all the time, not just in chunks or on some days rather than others. What an incredible joy we could have if we all lived with a faith in this truth: that the Holy Spirit is working in our world because Our Lord sent Him and because Our Lord does not break His promises. Alleluia!

Last Sunday’s offertory was $5663. A big thanks to all of us for our continued support of the parish in this time! This Sunday’s Pentecost second collection supports the formation and training of seminarians in the Archdiocese of Boston for service, we pray, as future priests. We are blessed that many are responding to the call to serve as priests. Please be generous and support these seminarians on their journey toward their ordination to the priesthood. For more information, please visit www.VocationsBoston.org. Next Sunday’s second collection is for our mortgage fund. Let’s continue to be faithful to these mortgage payments so that we can make a great investment in something that will bear a lot of fruit for our parish. How blessed we are to have such a large, new, and versatile space. The small business loan we received at the beginning of the month is continuing to help us get caught up in our finances, and as long as we use the money properly according to our understanding of the loan’s guidelines, most if not all of it we won’t have to pay back! So that is promising to help us a lot in getting back up to speed with our bill payments - already we’re making great headway. However, the loan will be up at the end of June and we will be on our own again to continue functioning. If we all remain committed to supporting the parish financially and with the gift of our talents and prayers, we should be able to come through this in good fashion. Let’s make this time of returning to Mass a time of renewal in our spiritual practice of tithing! What better time than now to reconsider how valuable our life in the Church and in the sacraments is. Now, for the big reveal…

“Why, sir, it would be a travesty!”

Thank you, Father Jeremy! Bravo, indeed! Does anyone have the guts to be punnier than Father? I invite you all to the challenge. Virtual Baby Bottle Drive for First Concern Pregnancy Center First Concern helps women and families dealing with crisis pregnancies. They transformed their bottle drive to a virtual event! Subject: Baby Bottle Drive We are transforming the Baby Bottle Drive from traditional bottles into a virtual event! The Baby Bottle drive is an important fundraiser as 100% of the money raised from each virtual donation will directly benefit both First Concern Centers. The spare change that is normally collected in the bottles adds up quickly and the donations help us sustain many Center initiatives. A few examples are as follows:

● The average bottle full of quarters, which is about $30, can purchase a box of diapers.

● During this pandemic our Moms have been set up with Earn While You Learn educational lessons online through a service called Bright Course. It takes $80 to provide one month of virtual learning to these clients.

● This service has been a lifeline for many. We have been able to equip them with emotional support, education, and earned items from our Baby Boutiques.

● It costs about $100 to set clients up with their first month of services which include a pregnancy test, classes, support, and educational materials.

If you are in a position to help us financially, please consider filling a “virtual bottle” by making an online donation here: https://secure.ministrysync.com/ministrysync/event/?e=20155 Donations can also be mailed to: 46 High Street, Clinton, MA 01510. Please be sure to indicate the donation is for the Baby Bottle Drive. Thank you in advance for your encouragement and support!
