Dear Parishioners, What a celebration we had on Tuesday, with our Solemn Mass and St. Joseph Table Banquet! It was a beautiful and most thrilling event. What a way to worship God, honor our parochial Patron and offer to them the fruit of our labor and stewardship. And what an honor it was to do that in our newly “beautified” church. The count in the church was a whopping 267. To those people who had to stand throughout the Mass, I say I’m sorry that was necessary, but, at the same time, I thank you for your fortitude and for putting up with an inconvenience that might induce others simply to say, “no seats? I’m outta here.” I must acknowledge a mistake I made which I didn’t consider correcting, since it would have necessitated people running around sacristies to search for another pulpit missal in that I read the incorrect epistle and gospel while at the pulpit. See, liturgical changes didn’t occur only as a result of Concilium shenanigans following Vatican II. There were changes prior to the council as well. Some of those changes involved texts of existing Masses; texts in use for centuries. For one reason or another, the texts of Masses that had been in use for quite a while were changed for this or that reason. In the case of the Mass for St. Joseph, both the epistle and the gospel were replaced with other texts. The book I typically use on Sundays is a very old volume, predating the changes in the Mass for St. Joseph. I was quite embarrassed, since I knew something was wrong right away. But, I didn’t want to make a big deal of it. This was not the case with a few chattering souls who became very fond of audibly complaining that they were lost and didn’t know what was going on. Shame they didn’t realize that further kvetching wasn’t going to solve the problem, though it did bother others who really wanted to be in a devotional atmosphere to pray the Mass, regardless of whether they knew exactly what was going on or what was being said. I’m sure, of course, that those folks were guests with no manners who wanted to draw attention to themselves and not St. Joseph parishioners. Dear Parishioners,

What a celebration we had on Tuesday, with our

Solemn Mass and St. Joseph Table Banquet! It

was a beautiful and most thrilling event. What a

way to worship God, honor our parochial Patron

and offer to them the fruit of our labor and

stewardship. And what an honor it was to do that in our newly

“beautified” church. The count in the church was a whopping 267.

To those people who had to stand throughout the Mass, I say I’m

sorry that was necessary, but, at the same time, I thank you for your

fortitude and for putting up with an inconvenience that might induce

others simply to say, “no seats? I’m outta here.”

I must acknowledge a mistake I made – which I didn’t consider

correcting, since it would have necessitated people running around

sacristies to search for another pulpit missal – in that I read the

incorrect epistle and gospel while at the pulpit. See, liturgical

changes didn’t occur only as a result of Concilium shenanigans

following Vatican II. There were changes prior to the council as

well. Some of those changes involved texts of existing Masses; texts

in use for centuries. For one reason or another, the texts of Masses

that had been in use for quite a while were changed for this or that

reason. In the case of the Mass for St. Joseph, both the epistle and

the gospel were replaced with other texts. The book I typically use

on Sundays is a very old volume, predating the changes in the Mass

for St. Joseph. I was quite embarrassed, since I knew something was

wrong right away. But, I didn’t want to make a big deal of it.

This was not the case with a few chattering souls who became very

fond of audibly complaining that they were lost and didn’t know

what was going on. Shame they didn’t realize that further kvetching

wasn’t going to solve the problem, though it did bother others who

really wanted to be in a devotional atmosphere to pray the Mass,

regardless of whether they knew exactly what was going on or what

was being said. I’m sure, of course, that those folks were guests with

no manners who wanted to draw attention to themselves and

not St. Joseph parishioners. I’m confident that all St. Joseph

parishioners know the difference between church and Walmart.

Cultivating the ground. Have you ever felt unproductive at work

or at home? Just like a tree bearing no fruit? We can cut our losses

and chop it to the ground. Or we can spend one more year to

cultivate and fertilize, to seek goodness and right living.

What year’s extension is God giving me?

How will I let God, the Gardener, tend to me this Lent?

What needs to be pruned away so life returns?

THANK

YOU!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated our St. Joseph’s Feast Day

with our parish. If you have not had a chance, please take a look at

the choir loft nave wall to see the four newly painted scenes from the

life of St. Joseph. The evening was filled with excitement as we
