Marriage and Family: God’s Gifts to the World by Charles Junjulas, MA

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:

“The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the Creator. Marriage is not a purely human institution...,’The well-being of the individual person and of both hu-man and Christian society is closely bound up with the healthy state of conjugal and family life.’” (Paragraph 1603)

In order to understand and appreciate this Sacred Institution established by God from the very beginning of His Creation, we will explore the Sacrament of Marriage and the importance of the Family in two areas of Church teaching: Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. We will also explore the crisis of Marriage and Fam-ily in the world today and how we as Catholic Christians can protect and defend these gifts of our Heavenly Father.

Please join us for any or all three sessions in the Parish Center:

•Marriage in Sacred Scripture: Monday, June 22 from 6:45pm-8:00pm

•Marriage in the Sacred Tradition of the Church: Tuesday June 23 from 6:45pm-8:00pm

•Marriage and Family in the World Today and How We Can Defend Them: Wednesday, June 24 from 6:45pm-8:00pm

About the Speaker:

Charles Junjulas received his Masters in Dogmatic Theology from St. Joseph’s Seminary. He teaches full time at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, is an instructor in the Archdiocese of NY Deacon For-mation Program, and is Director of Adult Faith Formation at Pius X Parish in Scarsdale, NY.

He has taught as an adjunct Professor at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Rockland County, NY and Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. He has offered numerous talks and classes on Scripture and Theology throughout the Archdioceses’ of New York and Connecticut.

He is married and has four children and is a member of the “Knights of the Immaculata”.

MARY’S GARDEN

Many parishioners have inquired about the beauti-ful statue of the Blessed Mother that is currently located next to the school building in Croton Falls. The statue was donated by a former pastor of St. Joseph’s, Monsignor John Nevin, in memory of his parents. I have assured all those who expressed concern about the fate of the statue that it would ultimately find an appropriate place at our new home.

Some of you may have noticed, the large spruce tree behind the church did not survive the construc-tion process and had to be taken down last week. As in most cases, when one door closes another opens.

The site of the former tree provides an ideal spot for a “prayer garden” with benches and a brick walk-way. The plan is to move the statue of the Blessed Mother from outside the convent in Croton Falls and to construct an outdoor area for prayer and re-flection.

During the Building Campaign, many folks have chosen to memorialize bricks with the name of a loved one imprinted on it. We will install those bricks in a pathway leading up the shrine. If you would like to memorialize a brick, you may do so by contacting me any weekday at the Parish Office (914- 232 2910). The donation for each brick will be $1,500.

Thank you for your continued support

Spirituality Seminar Series

Church of St. Joseph

June 12, 2015

The next seminar of the season will be on Friday, June 12, 2015. The seminar leader will be Rev. Jude Aguwa. The theme of the seminar will be:

Reflections on the Spiritual and Moral Values of Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The celebration of the solemnity of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus falls on June 12, the date for our par-ish spirituality workshop. What could be more fit-ting than to use the feast as the point of departure for our spirituality-workshop reflections? Thus, we can explore our traditional practices and ideas relating to the Sacred Heart and ways to make the graces of the devotion abundantly available to the needs of the present time.

Fr. Jude Aguwa, Ph.D. is a parochial vicar at St. Jo-seph’s Church in Somers. He is also a Professor of Theological Anthropology at Mercy College.

The opening 9:00 AM Mass will be conducted in the daily Mass chapel of the church. After Mass, there will be a continental breakfast, the seminar followed by lunch in Parish Center.

Pre-registration is helpful in planning for the semi-nar, in order to provide for the appropriate number of lunches. The cost is $10. If you have not done so, please call the Parish Office at 914-232-2910 to reg-ister.

THE BLOOD DRIVE IS COMING!

Dear parishioners, we know it is early but we wanted to let you know that the summer blood drive is being held on

Thursday, July 9th.

In the middle of the summer there are lots of people on vacation but also lots of people who need blood dues to accidents as well as illness. Please mark your calendars if at all possible to be available to donate this sum-mer. Marking the July 4th week with a blood donation is a great way to celebrate our country's birthday. Look for more information in the weeks to come.

Dear Friends in the Lord:

In celebration of our faith and family values, the Archdiocese of New York will be hosting the first Archdiocesan Family Day on Saturday, June 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 PM, at the San Silverio Shrine in Dover Plains, New York.

We are anticipating a fun-filled event complete with food, games and Mass celebrated by Bishop Peter Byrne with Cardinal Timothy Dolan as homilist.

Admission is $10 per person (children under 3 are free). To learn more about or to purchase tickets for the event, go to: https://archnyfamilyday.eventbrite.com. Space is limited, so please register early. We look forward to seeing you there!
