PASTOR’S POTPOURRI - COMMITMENT SUNDAY

As we celebrate the final Sunday in the Church’s “year of grace” we remember that Christ is King of the universe and everything comes from Him and returns to Him. The Gospel for today sums up all of Jesus’ teaching…how we deal with the hungry, the thirsty, those sick or in prison, naked…whatever we do to the least of His brothers and sisters, we do to Him. Thank you for your commitment today, may it give you joy as you live out the Gospel. As we look forward to Advent and Christmas, may our financial support of the Church and our other charities, help us to know that this is what the Lord expects of us. May we not be anything but generous. How can we ever repay the Lord for all that He has done for us? We can’t…but In our tithing, we can do what the Lord asks. May you know, again, the blessings that come to those who take care of their wealth in a wise and wonderful way.

— Fr. Bob

St Jude Events

Special Collection

We are asked by the Archdiocese of Denver to take up collec-tions throughout the year. This month St. Jude will continue our tithe as a Stewardship Parish and recognize:

Retired & Infirm Priests on December 3. This benefits our retired senior clergy, many of whom continue to serve in our parishes. Our contributions to this special collection enable them to continue their ministry in a variety of pastoral settings, as well as provide financial assistance for the challenges they face with advanced age and failing health.

You can find envelopes in the back of Church if you wish to make an additional contribution to any of these special collec-tions.

Winter Job Opportunity

St Jude is seeking someone to work on-call when it snows & help Ron shovel the sidewalks before Mass & throughout the day as needed.

If you are interested, please contact Fr Bob at 303-988-6435 Ext 14.

Around St. Jude

The Adopt-a-Family Program for Christmas begins Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 23. Children’s names will be available after Mass in the gathering space.

—The Christian Service Committee

Can you help your church?

It takes just a few minutes before or during weekend Mass. We are in need of Extraordinary Ministers of Com-munion at every Mass time except 11:00. We are need of greeters and many ushers at all Mass times. The 7:00 a.m. Mass is in need of another lector (reader).

Please prayerfully consider helping out with these important ministries – don’t wait for “someone else” – we need YOU. Please contact Laura at the office at 303-988-6435 Ext 17.

Mass schedule for the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (Holy Day of Obligation) Anticipated Mass December 7th: 6:30 p.m. December 8th: 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Well, we did the best we could. We stayed faithful to the Church into which we were baptized. We joined groups and took scripture classes. We extended our arms to the needy. We served on Parish Council. But―ahem―who is going to take our place? Where did the younger generations go? How did two generations of young people just leave without our really noticing?

I recently attended a parish mission led by Dr. Eileen Burke-Sullivan. Talking about our nostalgia for the bulging church-es of the fifties and early sixties―and I confess that I still long for what I remember as the vibrant Church of those days―she said (and I’m paraphrasing), “Even if we could somehow go back to those days right now we wouldn’t find Jesus there. He is where we are, and we don’t live there anymore. We are alive today, in 2017.”

Somehow, despite our best efforts―or maybe some lukewarm efforts―the investments that we made with the “talents” given us to pass on a robust and vital Church have not made a very impressive return. Recall what St. John Paul II said on the subject: We are not on earth to guard a museum, but to cultivate a flourishing garden of life.

Unlike the Master who left on a journey, Jesus never left us. But he did entrust his Church to us. Yes, the culture that used to carry the faith is gone. But do we really believe that Christ can’t heal and save and draw people to himself in 2017? This is the age in which we live. But Jesus Christ is Lord from age to age. That’s a truth none of us must bury in the ground. How do you keep investing in your parish? —Kathy McGovern ©2017 www.thestoryandyou.com
