Annual Catholic Appeal 2010

They Left Everything This week, you are asked to review the Annual Catholic Appeal bro-chure that you will receive with your bulletin today. The theme of the campaign is: “…they left everything and followed Him.” (Luke 5:11) The Apostles gave up everything to follow Jesus. You are not asked to do the same. Rather, you are asked to spend some time this week re-flecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal. While funding a number of Archdiocesan ministries, the Annual Catholic Appeal is also the largest philan-thropic source of financial support for ALL of the Catholic schools in the Archdio-cese. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal campaign is much different than a one time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift, payable over five months. As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal, please reflect on God’s gifts to you. He has given you all that you have. Your gifts to our parish, to the Archdiocese and to the work of the Church throughout the world are given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you. Sometimes it is difficult to envision how one pledge can help an organi-zation the size of our Archdiocese, how it can make a real difference. But each pledge does make a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. Our combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to God, they fund a significant portion of the work of our Archdiocese. After our parish goal of $58,272 is reached in cash, 100% of the additional funds come back to our parish to help to fund our needs. If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next weekend. For those of you that did not receive a mailing or have not had time to respond to it, we will con-duct our in-pew pledge process at all Masses next weekend.

Pastoral Council Mission Statement

The St. Juliana Parish Pastoral Council is an enthusiastic, compassionate, faith-filled community participating in the ministry of the Church. We are witnesses of the Good News, and through example and prayer we live the Gospel message. Through active listening we strive to determine and understand the diverse needs of our parish and community. We minister to these needs by inviting and empowering others to become involved in meeting the spiritual, temporal and social needs of all. We partner with the Pastor and Staff to support existing parish life, to create vision, and to plan for the future.

Open House - Catholic Schools Week January 31st through February 4th

Sunday, January 31st begins Catholic Schools Week in the Archdiocese of Chicago. It is the one week of the year wherein we pay special tribute and honor to the dedication, commitment and mission of Catholic schools in our country. Please join us the week of the 31st in praying for our schools, our children, and the dedicated women and men committed to their education, faith, and growth in Christ. Each day during this week at Saint Juliana, we will gather in unity to share knowledge, enjoy each other’s company, and honor our students, parents, and teachers without whom our school could not provide the academic excellence and spiri-tual values which make it special. All parishioners, parents, and friends are invited to attend our annual Open House on Sunday, January 31st. Please join us for the 12:00 P.M. Family Liturgy in church. Follow-ing the liturgy the school will be open until 3:00 P.M. for you to visit classrooms and see all the wonderful student work and projects on display. Stop and visit the newly dedi-cated Science Lab in room 13. Many school families and pa-rishioners donated money at the Black Top Ball to refurbish this room. In addition, technology at Saint Juliana School continues to expand. Our computer lab now has 30 net-worked eMac computers and the new mobile lab has 30 wireless networked Lenovo IdeaPad notebook computers. You may also enjoy lunch, purchase raffle tickets, and buy bake sale items in the school hall. Future Saint Juliana families are especially encouraged to visit our school at this time. Our School Board, teachers and staff will be happy to provide a tour of the school and answer your questions about Saint Juliana School.

New Science Lab Dedication

The opening of the new science lab is a dream come true for the students and teach-ers at St. Juliana School. The dream’s fulfillment started with the Blacktop Ball fund-raising event held in May of 2009 where the creation of the science lab was targeted as the “Fund-a-Cause”. After months of construction, the science lab is now ready for use. On Sunday, January 24th, an invita-tion was extended to all those who donated money for the creation of the science lab, to attend an Open

House tour of the new science lab. Principal Kathleen Barton, St. Juliana Pastor Fr. Steve Kanonik, and science teachers Mrs. Kristina Reyes and Mrs. Amanda Oh as well as St. Juliana students were present to greet the visitors and demonstrate the new equipment.

Anyone interested in viewing the completed science lab should come to the St. Juliana School Open House on Sunday, January 31st. The school will be open for visitors from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM that day as a part of the Catholic Schools Week activities.
