RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Our office is closed for the summer.

We will re-open in August.

From the Pastor's Desk… Summer has officially begun. For us priests in most dioceses, it is also a time for appointments and trans-fers. Last year, in the middle of June I was told that Msgr. Desmond O’Connor was taking charge of St. Jo-seph’s Parish in Kingston and I had to replace him in St. Kateri. As I agreed I also asked the Priests’ Personnel Director whether there would be another priest to help me. He assured me that there is another priest and he is Fr. Mathew MacDonald. Though I had not known Fr. MacDonald at that time I felt happy in my heart that there is another priest with me. Immediately I thanked God for this favor. Then, in late July I received a phone call from France. Since I had no friends in France, I was shocked and thought it might be a prank call. That was Fr. MacDonald on vacation in France, “Hello Fr. Pan-crose, this is Fr. Mathew MacDonald. I am in France on vacation. I hear that you are arriving in St. Kateri on July 31st. I will not be there when you arrive, but I will be with you for the weekend. People are very loving there and you will feel at home.” I was truly happy to get his phone call and hear his assurance of support. For a scared soul like me, that phone call was very re-assuring. From that weekend we began a journey to-gether ministering our parish family. Now he is called to minister the parish family of St. Mary’s in Washing-tonville. Nearly two months ago, all the priests’ retirements and parish openings for pastors were announced in our Archdiocese. When the list comes out, all priests will be notified and we can apply for the parishes we wish to pastor. Fr. Mathew expressed his desire to ap-ply. My first reaction was, “Are you serious? They are in dire need. They will give you a parish. Please do not apply if you are not serious. If you are serious, then it is great.” I believe this move will help Father to get ready soon to lead a parish community because I hear that they invest heavily on family catechesis and youth min-istry. I have requested Father to help us in as he can. Father MacDonald has been so helpful to me from the beginning of my ministry here. He is a good com-panion priest to live with and work with. On Saturdays we always enjoyed a dinner together in one of the nearby restaurants. I told him that if I am alone here, I will not go out to eat. I will miss Fr. MacDonald, so also the whole parish. In the name of all in the parish, I ex-press our gratitude to Father MacDonald for his life and ministry to us and wish God’s abundant blessings on him and his ministry to St. Mary’s Parish. Thank you Father MacDonald. God bless you.

OUR SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which is next to our Tabernacle, is a sign of the Real Presence of Jesus, the Light of the World in our Parish Church. In accordance with tradition, this candle may be dedicated in honor of, or in memory of, a particular person or persons, or for a special intention. The customary offering for this weekly dedication is $20. Anyone who wants to make arrangements for dedicating the Sanctuary Lamp should contact the Parish Office at 227-1710.

BREAD AND WINE Offerings are being accepted for the Bread and Wine for the week in memory of your loved ones. The customary offering fee is $20. Call the Parish Office.
