25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - September 24, 2017 Today’s Gospel Reflection: Matthew 20:1-16a

CALL UPON THE LORD The very first line of today’s first reading summons us to seek the Lord and to call upon God. This sentiment is echoed in the refrain for today’s responsorial psalm: “The Lord is near to all who call upon him” (Psalm 145:18a). Saint Paul is the embodiment of someone who constantly sought the Lord. In the excerpt we read today from his letter to the Philippians, we find Saint Paul toward the end of his life, a life he describes as completely consonant with Christ. He writes, “For to me life is Christ” (Philippians 1:21). To find out what it means to live life completely in accord with Christ we need look no further than today’s Gospel. The Gloria (1)

T he Gloria, or Glory to God, follows the penitential rite. Both are acts of

praise. In the penitential rite, we sing of the mercy of Christ. In the Gloria we praise God’s saving action in the universe. The Gloria is a relatively late ad-dition to the Mass. It first appeared in the Roman liturgy in the sixth century, and then it was sung only by the pope—and only on Christmas! With time, the hymn came to be sung by bishops on major feasts, and then by priests; finally, it became the song of the entire assembly. With the advent of more elabo-rate musical settings, the people gradually stopped singing the Gloria, until this song of the people became the exclusive do-main of the priest and the choir. But the liturgical reforms have restored it to its place as primarily the song of the assembly. The language of the Gloria echoes the New Testament canticles. It may be begun by the priest, the cantor, and the en-tire assembly in varied combinations. The Gloria is sometimes called the “greater doxology,” and in some ways it is like an extended, ecstatic version of the familiar doxology (“Glory be to the Father”) prayed in the Divine Office and the rosary. —Corinna Laughlin, © Copyright, J. If you write one check for different funds, please mark the amount on each envelope, insert the check in one envelope and staple the rest together. This is really helpful to the people who make the entries. If you forget your envelope and write a check in church, please indicate in the memo section which fund the check should go into and your envelope number as well. FYI: Some people think that if they write a check and don’t use an envelope, no one will know what they contribute. On the con-trary; when we receive a loose check, it has to be recorded manu-ally—which is very time consuming for our counters—before it can be entered into the system. Many people have a hard time dedicating themselves to a routine exercise program. Find a workout partner or join a local sports team. You will soon see that it is much easier to be disciplined when you have others who are counting on you to stick with the program. You should always make it a point to end your exercise sessions with a low-intensity activity such as 5-10 minutes of stretching or easy walking. This will help to bring your system back to its pre-exercise state. Try to avoid collapsing on the couch or into your favorite chair. (Health & Fitness Tips 2010)

Reflexión al Evangelio de hoy: Mateo 20,1-16a CLAMA AL SEÑOR

La primera línea de la lectura de hoy nos ordena buscar al Señor e invocar a Dios. Escuchamos el eco de este sentimiento en el refrán del salmo responsorial del día: “Cerca está el Señor de los que lo invocan” (Salmo 145:18a). San Pablo es la encarnación de alguien que constantemente buscó al Señor. En la cita que leímos hoy de su carta a los filipenses, encontramos a san Pablo hacia el final de su vida, vida que describe como en completa consonancia con Cristo. Escribe: “Porque para mí, la vida es Cristo” (Filipenses 1:21). Para saber lo que significa vivir una vida de completo acuerdo con Cristo basta mirar el Evangelio de hoy. El Gloria a Dios en el Cielo

A primera vista resulta contradictorio el dar gloria a quien es la gloria misma.

Dios no necesita que le glorifiquemos, y nada de lo que hagamos, por bueno que sea, au-menta su gloria. Él es la gloria total, mucho antes de la creación del universo. ¿Por qué, pues le cantamos gloria? Por una necesidad nuestra de reconocer la grandeza divina y que en su grandeza nosotros también somos grandes. Este antiquísimo himno de alabanza, justo antes de la Oración colecta, marca el tono mismo de la celebración, así como su finalidad: la gloria de Dios; sea que se reconozca, se cante o se refleje en la vida humana. Desde esta perspectiva, toda la vida litúrgica de la Iglesia es un canto de alabanza a Dios, de glorificación, aun en su liturgia de exequias o cuando, movidos por el dolor o la tragedia humana, somos convocados a la oración comunitaria. Lời Chúa : “Ông chủ trả lời cho một người trong bọn họ : ‘Này bạn, tôi đâu có xử bất công với bạn. Bạn đã chẳng thoả thuận với tôi là một quan tiền sao ? Cầm lấy phần của bạn mà đi đi. Còn tôi, tôi muốn cho người vào làm sau chót này cũng được bằng bạn đó. Chẳng lẽ tôi lại không có quyền tuỳ ý định đoạt về những gì là của tôi sao ? Hay vì thấy tôi tốt bụng, mà bạn đâm ra ghen tức ?’” (Mt 20,13-15).

Anh chị em thân mến, Phúc Âm hôm nay Chúa Giêsu muốn dạy chúng ta bài học về LÒNG BIẾT ƠN THIÊN CHÚA qua dụ ngôn “ông chủ mướn thợ làm vườn nho”. Câu chuyện này đã làm nổi bật hình ảnh một ông chủ đầy lòng quảng đại đối với những kẻ yếu kém, nhưng công bằng với những người làm công đầy bản tính kiêu ngạo, so bì và hay ganh tỵ. Chúa cho chúng ta thấy rằng, những ai hay kiêu ngạo, hay so sánh, và hay ganh tỵ như những người làm công này, thì không xứng đáng đón nhận lòng quảng đại của Thiên Chúa. Thánh Matthêu thuật lại chi tiết về thái độ của những người làm công đến từ sáng sớm, họ cho rằng họ đã làm cả ngày, nên phải được thưởng công nhiều hơn, còn những kẻ mới vô làm ít giờ nhất thì phải được thưởng ít, nên họ cho là bất công đối với họ. Chính vì có tư tưởng kiêu ngạo tự nghĩ mình hơn người và xứng đáng được thưởng hơn, nên họ quên điều đã thỏa thuận với gia chủ trước khi nhận lời làm việc, mà lại ganh tỵ và tức giận về cách cư xử rộng rãi của gia chủ đối với những người làm ít giờ. Chúa Giêsu cho chúng ta thấy thật sự là người gia chủ không hề xử bất công với nhóm người kiêu ngạo kia, vì gia chủ đã làm đúng theo sự thỏa thuận lúc ban đầu. Đó mới là công bằng thật sự. Chúa muốn cho chúng ta hiểu sự công bằng và rộng rãi hay thương xót không thể gồm chung lẫn lộn được. Ai muốn sòng phẳng công bằng thì Chúa sẽ theo lẽ đó mà xử, và ai muốn lòng thương xót thì Chúa mới xử theo lẽ thương xót, mà nâng đỡ những người cần được sự thương xót. Nên kẻ đòi công bằng và sòng phẳng, thì không chịu mang ơn hay chịu mắc nợ ai. Satan có thái độ này nên Chúa Giêsu mới phán với nhóm người làm việc cho Satan khi họ muốn gài bẫy Chúa Giêsu để tìm cớ bắt Ngài : “Thế thì của Xêda, trả về Xêda; của Thiên Chúa trả về Thiên Chúa.” (Mt 22,21) Một khi đã huề thì đâu có lý nào gia chủ phải thương xót và nâng đỡ những kẻ đòi lý lẽ. Cũng như Satan, những kẻ cãi lý thì không muốn tình, nên đã tự cắt đứt mối dây liên hệ giữa họ với Thiên Chúa và muốn dùng lý lẽ để huề với Thiên Chúa, vì chúng đã quên công ơn Thiên Chúa đã tạo dựng nên chúng, nên Chúa đã xử với Satan theo sự công thẳng của Ngài giống như cách đối xử của gia chủ với những người làm vườn nho kiêu ngạo này. Lúc lâm chung, Satan thường gieo tư tưởng vào lòng người đang hấp hối là mình đã có lập công lớn với Chúa, để khiến họ tự mãn là sẽ được Chúa ban thưởng trọng hậu mà trở nên kiêu ngạo tự đắc. Nếu họ nghe theo thì ma quỷ đã thành công cướp đi lòng thương xót của Chúa đối với linh hồn đó, nên người đó khó mà vào Thiên Đàng. Satan chuyên dùng chiêu này để cướp đi lòng thương xót của Thiên Chúa nơi các Thánh, nên các ngài phải hằng rèn luyện đức khiêm nhường để khỏi kiêu ngạo tự mãn. Đánh mất lòng thương xót của Chúa nơi linh hồn mình thì không khác gì trở về tay không. Nên Chúa và Đức Mẹ hằng cảnh cáo trong Kinh Thánh trong bài Magnificat là Chúa đưa những người kiêu ngạo xuống và nâng kẻ hèn mọn lên. Chúa Giêsu dạy các thánh mặc lấy tâm hồn khiêm nhu và nhận ra sự thật mình yếu đuối đễ được đón nhận Lòng Thương xót Chúa và được rỗi linh hồn. Thiên Chúa hứa ban sự sống đời đời cho những ai tin theo Chúa, những ai mặc lấy tinh thần khiêm nhu và biết dựa vào ơn Chúa, vào lòng từ bi, rộng rãi hay thương xót của Thiên Chúa. Chúng ta hãy đến với Chúa và sống theo những gì Chúa dạy, hầu được hưởng hạnh phúc đời đời. Hãy tin vào Ơn Chúa, chớ tin vào khả năng của bản thân mình, vì Chúa đã nói “Vì không có Thầy, anh em chẳng làm gì được”. (Ga 15,5b). Chính TINH THẦN KHIÊM NHU và THÁI ĐỘ BIẾT ƠN CHÚA sẽ quyết định số phận của chúng ta ở trên trời. Hãy lắng nghe Lời Chúa dạy “Trong anh em, người làm lớn hơn cả, phải làm người phục vụ anh em. Ai tôn mình lên, sẽ bị hạ xuống; còn ai hạ mình xuống, sẽ được tôn lên.” (Mt 23,11-12). Chúa cũng dạy sau khi làm xong mọi việc thì nhận rằng : ”Chúng tôi chỉ là đầy tớ vô dụng, chúng tôi đã chỉ làm việc bổn phận đấy thôi.” (Lc 17,10b), vì chỉ biết làm theo bổn phận Chúa trao ban.. CHƯƠNG TRÌNH TIỀN DỰ TÒNG

Chủ Nhật tuần tới ngày 24 tháng 9, Walgreen có chích ngừa cúm miễn phí cho cả giáo xứ từ 8:30 sáng cho tới 3 giờ chiều, ở sân cuối nhà thờ, xin mời đến chích ngừa.

Quỹ Tài Trợ Công Giáo Quận Hạt Santa Clara đã tuyên bố trao tặng một số tiền tài trợ cho một vài hoạt động cộng đồng trong Giáo Xứ chúng ta như sau:

- $2500 cho chương trình “ Quản Lý nhà Chúa giúp Canh Tân Đời Sống” qua một buổi tĩnh tâm giáo xứ, các buổi hội thảo và học hỏi thêm về việc quản lý nhà Chúa.

- $5000 cho kế hoạch “ Đào Tạo Đức Tin giúp giới trẻ và người trẻ trưởng thành” có nhiều cơ hội rèn luyện đức tin và sống đạo tốt.

- $6000 cho kế hoạch “Tiếp Cận giúp cộng đồng” có cơ hội thi hành việc bác ái từ thiện giúp đỡ những người không nhà cửa và có nhu cầu cần thiết trong giáo xứ.

- $250 cho chương trình “Đào tạo về âm nhạc giúp các ca đoàn” có cơ hội học hỏi thêm về âm nhạc và ca hát.

Mong rằng sự giúp đỡ tài chánh rộng rãi của Ban Tài Trợ Công Giáo Quận Hạt Santa Clara cho Giáo Xứ Saint Maria Goretti, sẽ giúp phục vụ giáo dân và những sinh hoạt hội đoàn trong giáo xứ tốt đẹp hơn.

Nghi thức xám hối trước Thánh Lễ là một cách thống hối truyển thống, hoặc nói “Tôi thú nhận” đó lời cầu nguyện của linh mục ở trên cung thánh, nhưng bây giờ đã trở thành lời cầu nguyện của toàn thể giáo dân. Kinh Thú Nhận có tính cách cá nhân khi đọc “Tôi thú nhận....” và khi cầu nguyện đọc lớn tiếng cùng nhau thì có tính cách cộng đoàn. Chúng ta nhận ra rằng tội lỗi không những tách rời chúng ta ra khỏi Thiên Chúa mà còn phân tách chúng ta với nhau. Chúng ta nhận ra rằng tội lỗi có nhiều chiều hướng, cá nhân và cộng đoàn: tư tưởng, lời nói, việc làm và những điều thiếu xót. Tội không bắt nguồn từ bên ngoài, mà phát xuất từ trong lòng. Trong Kinh Thú Nhận, chúng ta chịu trách nhiệm với lỗi lầm chúng ta đã phạm. Hành động đấm ngực từ xưa đến nay và nói “lỗi tại tội mọi đàng” không nhằm hạ thấp lòng tự trọng của chúng ta; thay vì đổi thừa trách nhiệm cho kẻ khác. (Ma quỷ xúi dục tôi!) Lời nguyện vẫn còn thiếu, cho đến khi chúng ta chịu trách nhiệm những hành động với thiếu xót của chúng ta. Lúc đó chúng ta kêu cầu cùng Chúa theo thể thức Kyrie, eleison—Xin Chúa, thương xót chúng con. Những người tội nhân biết thống hối thì được Thiên Chúa thương xót.
