Holy Days: Schedule will be announced on the previous Sunday.
Parishioners who are unable to attend Sunday Mass may receive the
Eucharist at home on a weekly basis. Please call the rectory to arrange
for a visit by a Special Minister of Holy Communion.
RECONCILIATION Saturdays at 4:00PM and by appointment.
BAPTISM Baptisms are celebrated on the second & fourth Sundays of each month
at 1:30PM. Please call the Rectory to schedule a Baptism celebration and
to arrange for an initial interview and a Baptism preparation meeting for
parents. Baptisms will take place on the second & fourth Sundays, at
1:30PM.
MARRIAGE Marriages are celebrated on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at
prearranged times. Please call the rectory at least six months in advance
of an intended date in order to make an appointment to complete the
preliminary arrangements, set a date for the wedding, and register for
the required marriage preparation program.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Anointing of the Sick is available every Saturday after the 8:30AM
Mass especially for parishioners who have medical procedures
scheduled for the coming week.
DEVOTIONS DAILY RECITATION OF THE ROSARY Monday through Saturday immediately following the 8:30 AM Mass.
MIRACULOUS MEDAL NOVENA Every Monday immediately following the 8:30 AM Mass.

WELCOME!: With great joy, we welcome into
our faith community Jennifer Marasco and
Carmen Lorenzana Marotta who were baptized,
confirmed, and who joined with us at the
Eucharistic table for the first time at the Easter
Vigil. We also welcome Michael Newton who
joined in our Eucharist as well after being
confirmed, too. Congratulations to them and to
all who helped them on their journey of faith.
We know they are really just beginning the
great voyage of faith, living the Catholic‐
Christian life. Please continue to keep them in
your prayers.
SWIM TEAM: Our CYO Swim Coach Diane
Bogdan will be stepping down. We want to
thank her for her five years of service. There
will be a meeting on Saturday, April 29th in the
Genesis Room at 10:00AM for any one who is
interested in coaching. All are welcome to
attend.
SCRIP: Scrip will NOT be sold on Easter
weekend at all Masses. Scrip can be purchased
during the week at the Rectory between 9:00AM
and 4:30PM. Scrip will resume being sold at
next weekend’s Masses. Thank you!
MARCH FOR LIFE: The March for Life will be
held on Saturday, April 29th at 11:00AM at the
Bald Hill Amphitheater in Farmingville. They
will be meeting at Brookhaven Hall
at 11:00AM. For more information, and

GOLDEN WEDDING JUBILEE: This Spring,
couples that have been married fifty years or
more will be honored at a special Mass on
Sunday, April 30th at the Church of St. James in
Seaford. The Mass will begin at 2:30PM.

A NIGHT AT THE RACES: St. Martin’s
Knights of Columbus present a Night at the
Races on Friday, May 5th. The event will take
place at 7:00PM in the Parish Center. Tickets are
$12 for adults in advance, and includes food,
unlimited beer, wine and soda, coffee, dessert,
race program and prizes. Tickets will be $15 at
the door. Come and cast your bet on some
horses. Please make checks payable to “St. Mar‐

FROM THE PASTOR
Easter
I have always loved this little parable. I don’t know where I first learned of it, but it certainly
tells us the central purpose of Easter Redemption.
It is Final Judgment Day and all are joyously gathered in Heaven celebrating those who have
made it into heaven. St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John Paul II, your mother… all
together and enjoying Eternal Life. The gates of heaven have been sealed— for all eternity, never to
be opened again. Everyone is there— except Jesus. Nowhere to be found. They can’t find the boss.
St. Peter searches high and low and finally finds Jesus at the gates of heaven looking downcast as he
peers out of the closed gates. “Why are you not celebrating with everyone, Lord? Why are you so
sad on this most joyous of days?” Jesus responds with great sorrow, “I was just looking for Judas. I
had hoped that he might have come and asked me to forgive him at the last minute. If he had only
come and asked me to forgive him for what he did… you know I would have forgiven him. All he
had to do was ask.”
Pope Benedict has reminded us that “Every saint had a past. Every sinner has a future.” The
figures in the gospel stories are people who have been redeemed from their past—saved—made
new by Christ. The woman at the well, the man born blind, and most importantly, Dismiss the thief
who converts in the last minutes of his wretched life to Saint Dismiss. Longinus the centurion who
put Jesus to death repented of his sin and is today Saint Longinus, and Peter “wept bitterly” when
he realized he had denied Christ three times, to become Saint Peter. Often we forget that both Peter
and Judas had been disloyal to Christ; the difference being that Peter repented—Judas despaired.
“Every saint had a past. Every sinner has a future.”
The great irony is that Judas might have been—dare I even say it—Saint Judas. All he had to
do was ask for forgiveness. He was too proud. He despaired and died wallowing in his prideful sin.
Easter is about Redemption: redeeming the sinner, finding the lost, fixing the broken, and
renewing a fallen world.
Redemption can be yours… if you but ask.

STEWARDSHIP – A Way of Life “Believing With Joy”
SOME STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS: Very early in the morning after the Sabbath, Mary Magda‐
lene went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body with precious oils. The reward for this good and consci‐
entious steward was to be the first to know that Jesus had been raised from the dead. Alleluia!
We, as good stewards, have been raised with Christ and celebrate this greatest of all feasts for 40
days – the Easter Season. Let us rejoice and be glad.
On April 22nd we celebrate Earth Day. We read in scripture: “God saw everything that He had
made and, indeed, it was very good.” We read also that God gave mankind dominion over all the
works of creation. Let us pray that all citizens and leaders will become wise and careful stewards of
the gifts of God’s creation.
LIVING STEWARDSHIP: We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who share the
“Good News” ‐ that Christ is risen, victorious over sin and death – wherever and whenever they
can.
CELEBRATING OUR GIFTEDNESS: We celebrate the gifts of time, faith, and leadership shared
with us by our LITURGY COMMITTEE. Parishioners plan, coordinate, and implement liturgical

SOCIAL MINISTRY
EMPLOYMENT MINISTRY: At St. Martin’s
Employment Program we maintain a database
of personnel seeking employment in the local
Long Island market. We assist them by
providing counseling services including resume
development and by making available a wide
range of job search capabilities. Our extensive
client database covers a wide range of
employment experience ranging from office
work, sales help, factory work, food handling,
home care, and companions to assist the elderly.
If you can help, we can use volunteers on
Mondays & Wednesdays, for just four hours per
day, to assist people in finding suitable jobs. We
need parishioners who can interview clients,
prepare resumes, and perform job searches. If
you wish to help with this important ministry
please call Frank, Kathy, or Rosemary during
regular office hours or leave a message. This
ministry is staffed by volunteer case workers.

TAX CREDIT: The United States fed‐
eral Earned Income Tax Credit or earned in‐
come credit (EITC) is a refundable tax credit for
low‐ to moderate‐income working individuals
and couples, particularly those with children.
The amount of EITC benefit depends on a re‐
cipientʹs income and number of children.
SPRING IS HERE AT THE CLOAK ROOM:
The Cloak Room Thrift Store, located at 227
Broadway in Downtown Amityville, is now
selling Spring merchandise, including Com‐
munion Dresses and Wedding Gowns. Come
browse for bargains and thank the dedicated
volunteers for their service to this important
ministry.
RESPECT LIFE: Pope John Paul II in
Evangelium Vitae says: “We need to bring the
Gospel of life to the heart of every man and woman
and to make it penetrate every part of society…
(This) involves making clear all the consequences of
this Gospel. These can be summed up as follows: Hu‐
man life, as a gift of God, is sacred and inviolable.
For this reason procured abortion and euthanasia are
absolutely unacceptable. Not only must human life
not be taken, but it must be protected with loving
concern.” (Sec. 80‐81)

give to the kids of Outreach! What a lovely ex‐
ample of the Christian Spirit in our community.
CARING SPIRIT MINISTRY: The Caring
Spirit Ministry will be going to the Amityville
Historical Society Museum on Tuesday, April
18th at 2:00PM for the Local Artistsʹ Art Show.
They will meet in the parking lot by the Genesis
Room at 1:45PM. New members are welcome!
EARTH DAY: Next Saturday, April 22nd is
Earth Day. “May the relationship between man and
nature not be driven by greed, to manipulate and
exploit, but may the divine harmony between beings
and creation be conserved in the logic of respect and
care” (Pope Francis, Earth Day, 2015).

Children must be 2 by December 1st, 2016.
Parent or guardian stays.
Children experience a softly structured routine; create and socialize. Story and
snack included.
Program meets Fridays from 9:30‐10:30 am.

On Saturday, April 8, 2017, three of our students participated in the First Diocesan STEM Fair at Holy Trinity
High School. Sarah Wickes presented in Level 1 and Robert Gates and Michael Santos participated in Level
11. Projects represented an integrated STEM approach to scientific inquiry. Students were required to
create a tri‐fold board or a presentation on a laptop. Students were required to speak and answer questions
about their project during the public viewing period. Our students worked independently on their own time.
St. Martin of Tours School community is very proud of them for their time and dedication to complete this
project. Congratulations to them and their families!
