Statement of Agreements in "Declaration on the Way: Church, Ministry and Eucharist," 2015Fr. Rooney: I thought you might find this interesting, in preparation of the 500th observance of the Reformation (October, 1517) the American Dialogue of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a historic document outlining our agreement to celebrate. This document has been ratified by the Vatican and the World Lutheran Federation as a study text for preparation. Here are the 32 agreements summarized.

The reason this is so important is that the churches have now begun to clarify former confusions and caricatures of each other, to build a base upon which theological dialogue and conversations between parishes may begin, that the remaining differences might be addressed.

A. Agreements on the ChurchThe Church’s Foundation in God’s Saving Work(1)CatholicsandLutheransagreethatthechurchonearthhasbeenassembledbythetriuneGod,whograntstoitsmemberstheirsharinginthetriunedivinelifeasGod’sownpeople,asthebodyoftherisenChrist,andasthetempleoftheHolySpirit,whiletheyarealsocalledtogivewitnesstothesegiftssothatothersmaycometoshareinthem.(2)TheyagreeaswellthatthechurchoneartharosefromthewholeeventofJesusChrist,whoremainsitssolefoundation(1Corinthians3:11).(3)Further,theyholdincommonthatthechurchonearthisgatheredbytheproclamationofthegospelofGod’ssavingmercyinChrist,sothatthegospel,proclaimedintheHolySpiritbytheapostles,remainsthechurch’snormativeoriginandabidingfoundation.(4)Anagreementfollowsthatthechurchonearthisineveryage

B. Agreements on Ordained MinistryIn “Agreements on the Church,” Catholics and Lutherans affirm the ecclesial character of one another’s communities. This affirmation is an essential first step toward a mutual recognition of ordained ministry, for mutual recognition of one another’s ecclesial character is intertwined with the mutual recognition of one another’s ministry.

come, holy spirit...liturgy

The Novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direc-tion of our Lord himself when he sent his apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially pre-scribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian.

Pro-Life reflectionThe Most Important Person..... On earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral — a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body.....The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other human creature. God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation ... What on God’s earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother.—CardinalJosephMindszenty
