  • Stewardship: A Way of Life

    5th Sunday of Lent

“For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I con-

sider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ…”

    Philippians 3:8

The first commandment says that we should not put other gods before the Lord. Sharing all of our gifts, our time in prayer, our talent in charitable works and our treasure to sup-port Church needs helps us keep God first in everything. It helps us from putting other gods before God. It helps us to use our gifts for the glory of God and not for our own hon-or.

Please keep these parishioners and family members in your prayers:

  • Prayer for a New Bishop Loving God, you fill heaven and earth with your glory, yet you are near to all who call upon you. Grant our diocese a new bishop who, in your grace, is a Shepherd after your own heart: one who is filled with zeal for the Faith and the spread of the Gospel, who is gen-tle and wise, merciful and just, and devoted in love for your people. May he strive each day to be configured to your Son, Jesus Christ, and unite your peo-ple to become stronger in faith, more earnest in our love of you, and generous with our care for others. Grant your people the grace to accept our new bishop as your own, and may he lead us toward your Son, the unfailing light, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Saint Raphael, patron of our Diocese,

    pray for us.

UPDATE ON FR. DAVE: Late Monday evening, Fr. Dave suffered a heart attack at home. He was transported to the hospital in Janesville and the next morning was transported to Madison. On Wednesday morning he underwent an 8-1/2 hour surgery. Per the surgeon, everything went great. They did a quadruple bypass and he is expected to be in ICU for several days. The

family has requested no visitors at this time. Please keep Fr. Dave in your prayers as he continues to heal and recuperate. Please join us in welcoming Fr. Paul Arinze, who has been assigned by the diocese as the temporary parochial administrator for St. Mary and St. Joseph to allow Fr. Dave to focus all his energy on healing!

  • TAIZE’ PRAYER AT NATIVITY OF MARY, JANESVILLE: Dan Schutte, songwriter and composer of much of the music that we sing at Mass, offers a

reflection on “Prayer”: It’s not that we even need to have something profound to say or need a prayer book or rosary to help us. In fact, all we need

to do is sit quietly and allow God to be there with us, letting ourselves bask in the warmth of the Lord’s presence. For most of us, our prayer tends to have too many words anyway. Why not make this simple? Maybe it’s just about allowing God to be present at that moment. Taking care of us, providing what we need most at any given moment. God is always present if we stop and empty ourselves of the world’s cares, if only for a moment. Taize’ Prayer offers an opportunity for us to simply be in God’s presence and open our hearts to God’s voice. Join us on Monday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m. for a peaceful and enriching prayer experience. OLA FISH FRY: Our Lady of the

Assumption, Beloit, will have a Fish Fry this Friday, April 12 and every Friday during Lent. Serving takes place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Assumption Hall. All you

can eat baked and fried Cod, baked

potatoes, fries, coleslaw, applesauce, bread and beverage. Adults: $11.00; children 6-12: $5.00; 5 and under FREE. Soda and desserts offered at an additional charge. Carry-outs available.

ST. JOSEPH KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIPS: St. Joseph Knights of Columbus are again offering two scholarships. These $500 scholarships are available to male high school seniors who have been confirmed, are members of St. Joseph Parish and who intend to attend an accredited college or technical school on a full-time basis during the 2018-19 academic year. • You’ve finished reading “The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity” by Matthew Kelly, which you received as a Christmas gift from St. Mary and St. Joseph parishes. (If you don’t have it, there are a few copies still available in the parish office.) Where do you go from here? It’s not too late to sign up for Best Lent Ever®, daily e-mails with short inspirational videos, practical tips for your life, and personal stories based on this book. You can also explore study guides for this and past holiday gift titles like “Perfectly Yourself” and “Resisting Happiness.” Thank you for taking time out of your hectic life to read this book... You may be asking, “What now?” Well, you know what the biggest lie is. You know the damage it has done. You know, but not everyone does. In fact, most people are largely unaware. So now it’s your turn to

live a life of truth by boldly embracing the holiness set apart for you. You can change the course of Christianity one Holy Moment at a time. Souls are at stake and your role is irreplaceable. You have a God-given mission, and no one else can do it for you. Thank you for accepting your call to holiness.

God bless, The Dynamic Catholic Team
