Celebrating 163 years of Pastoral Service to the Catholic Community of Berea
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 3, 2016
Dear Friends, We celebrate the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time and we hear in the Gospel to-day that the 72 are SENT totally dependent upon God and mutually dependent on others, carrying only their experience of Jesus and the power to heal. Pope Francis reminds us that as Church we are to proclaim the good news of Jesus, “so that faith in him might spread to every corner of the earth.” [Evangelii Gaudium, 19] Accept the mission and live the Gospel this week! Have a great week and THANKS for your contribution and support of St. Mary’s! Happy Independence Day! Join us for Mass on Monday morning at 9am!
Father John A Time of Gratitude:
My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are grateful for all of the well wishes, thoughts, kindness, tears you shed with us, and especially for all of the prayers that you have said for our moth-er, for us, and for our grief. WE ARE GRATEFUL! “Thank You.” These words can convey a feeling and a mes-sage that comes from the depths of our being, in response to a kindness shown, that has come at a time of great need. The kindness given at those times comes from a sense of love and community which we know as family. You are family, and we are grateful for you! Life is a series of lessons in which we come to know reality – Really knowing what actually is. The death of my mother presented all of these and more for me to experi-ence.
As we reflect and talk about the ways in which we are grateful, we speak about how God has been so
very good to us. We had our mother for a very long time, and even though we want her to be here longer, we are incredibly blessed for the time we had. Many have had less time to spend with theirs. We are blessed with the wisdom God bestowed on her. She offered many thoughts of wisdom as we lived life, and we are different people because of it. We are grateful for her joy, laughter, correction, discipline, friendship, love, nurturing, comfort, and for so many other ways, and for so many things. The list is endless, but we are most grateful that she lived her faith in God, introduced us to Him, and led us to a relationship with the God who cares for us. This is her greatest gift to us, and for this, we are MOST GRATEFUL!
I am very thankful that you have become my family. Your support and prayers, your love and kindness have been an incredible help in this time. You have shown that you care for me. I am especially grateful for you. Words cannot express what I feel, they fall short of what each of you means to me, but as we journey on, I hope that I can show you what I attempt to say in words. Out of gratitude, I hope to be able to give you what you have given to me. Your kindness and care for me, I want to return to you. Your love and compassion, I want to return to you. Your presence in my time of need, I want to return to you. I pray that I can be for you, what you have been for me. I am humbled in the love you have given me, and I have grown deeper in gratitude for you by all that you have done. I am grateful that you have been Christ for me, giving me hope in His resur-rection, faith in His promise, and shown me His love. For You, I am forever GRATEFUL.

A person who is sent
Ours is a mission of love. We are there to bring Christ to the people and to bring the people to Christ. A Missionary of Charity is a person who is sent. Being Missionaries of Charity, we are sent to bring God’s love, to prove God’s love: that God loves the world, that God loves the poor. He shows His love through us for them. Music Ministry and Liturgy Notes
By Angela Kovacs Director of Music and Liturgy
CELEBRATE WITH PRAYER Even though the Fourth of July isn’t a religious holiday, that doesn’t mean that we can’t still thank God for the possibilities Inde-pendence day has brought us! As I get ready for our family cook out (I make the chicken salad!), I leave you with this prayer, so that we remember what is important about this day. Dear Lord, there is no greater feeling of liberation than to experience this freedom from sin and death that you have provided for me through Jesus Christ. Today my heart and my soul are free to praise you. For this I am very thankful. On this Independence Day, I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that a very high price was paid for my free-dom. Lord, I am so thankful for this nation. For all the sacrifices others have made to build and defend this country, I am grateful. Grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Christ. Amen. Traditional Choir, Contemporary Choir, and Youth Choir are off for the summer. All choir members are welcome to sing up in the loft during weekend masses. Summer is a perfect time to audition for involvement in one of our ensembles! If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see me after mass up in the loft. Please contact the music ministry office for more information: 440.243.3877 ext 27.
Family Perspectives
Today is a day of rejoicing! As we celebrate our free-dom, let us give thanks to God for our abundant bless-ings and remember God’s Kingdom is being estab-lished on earth and we are to be part of this. We are sent into the world like the seventy-two were sent in the Gospel. Jesus wants us to bring the good news to our families, neighborhoods, workplaces—wherever we go! “The work of handing on the faith to children, in the sense of facilitating its growth, helps the whole family in its evangelizing mission. It naturally begins to spread the faith all around them, even outside of the family.”
Bible Study Bible Study meets in the chapel on each Tuesday at 11:00am and again at 7:00pm. As the story of Joshua continues to unfold, we are again reminded of the loving care God shows to His children . You do not have to be a Biblical scholar to be apart of either of these gatherings. Just bring your Bible and a listening heart to see if God does not have something to say to you.
Quiet Prayer Quiet prayer will meet in the chapel on Tuesday at 12:30pm. Our session will be a simple session, Prayer is also often done more easily in a community of people at prayer. You are welcome to join us for all or part of the time. Why not come to see if this type of prayer might benefit you on your spiritual journey?
