From the Pastor’s Desk… Pope’s Message of Peace: “Overcome Indifference and Win Peace”
Pope Francis, in his New Year’s message of peace, urged people to work for a world where everyone accepts each other's differences and where enemies recognize that they are brothers. Pope Francis states, “God is not indifferent! God cares about mankind! God does not abandon us! We are all children of one heavenly father, we belong to the same human family and we share a common destiny." Our Holy Father asks us, during this present Jubilee Year of Mercy to pray and work so that every Christian will have a humble and compas-sionate heart, one capable of proclaiming and witnessing to mercy…to ‘forgive and give’, to become more open ‘to those living on outermost fringes of society’… and to refuse to fall into ‘a humiliating indifference or a monotonous routine which prevents us from discovering what is new! Let us ward off destructive cynicism.’
The Magi teach us seek and you will find
The Magi were searching for the truth. They were foreigners and repre-sent all nations whom God calls to know Him through Jesus. They had to face many obstacles but nothing could weaken their resolve to find the newborn King of Israel. They teach us that those who sincerely search for Christ will surely find Him.
The Magi may not have been but they were certainly wise. They recog-nized the child Jesus as the Savior of the World. Whereas his own peo-ple, the Jews, (in spite of having the light of the Scripture and the Tradi-tion) for the most part, rejected Him. There are many people in our midst who are looking for a star that will lead them to Christ. We as the Church, and as individuals, are called to be a star for all those seeking the person of Jesus the Savior of the world. Finally, we thank God for this New Year. This is a great blessing for all of us. May we value this precious gift of time and use it well for the glory of God and for the good of others. Happy New Year 2016!
Fr. John Francis
