Fr. Godwin and the Parish Staff
Today’s first reading tells us God has called us from the womb to His servants to bring Him to eve-ryone we meet. Psalm 40 today gives us the answer we should give to God.
“Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.”
I have a 16 year old nephew named Quinn, who has Down’s Syndrome. Quinn is very active in his school and has many friends and a loving family. He helps out with the football team, plays basket-ball and has great school spirit.
Quinn is very affectionate, friendly, loving and loves to talk about what he’s been up to in school and share about his life. Also, he thinks I am a celebrity because I wrote a book and he watches all
my homilies online on the St. Patrick website.
Recently, when we were talking, we ran out of things to say. Quinn broke the silence and asked me a simple, yet pro-found question. A question no one has ever asked me, a question that has made me think very deeply about my rela-tionship with God and my faith.
“Uncle Dennis, how is God doing?” I answered very quickly, “God is doing Great, just Great.”
Quinn knows that I know God. He sees me at church, preaching and teaching. He has seen me baptizing babies and I have given him Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. I blessed him when he was sick and getting ready for a heart operation. He has seen me at the funerals of family, leading prayers and releasing doves. His favorite book is my book, “Animals of the Bible”.
Quinn knows that I know God. He sees God in me and through me. IT is hard for us to know God, especially children. God is Spirit, children only usually see God working in and through others. They want to know Him, too.
After Quinn left and these past few months I have thought about this question many times, “How is God doing?”
Maybe angry, there is too much hatred, violence and war.
Maybe tearful, babies are being killed.
Maybe upset, we are not taking care of the world He left us better.
Maybe disappointed, there is not more love and we have not lived up to the people He created us to be.
However, overall, I think my answer would still stand. God is doing Great, Just Great because there is a lot of good in the world and a lot of love. Many people are faithful followers and bold witnesses spreading the good news of Jesus. Many people are caring for the hungry, the homeless, the ill and the lonely. God knows not just who we are now, He knows what we should be, could be, will be. There is Faith. There is Hope. There is Love.
How is God doing? This year strive to live each day to know Him a little better so when people see you, they know you know God. I hope one day soon you will be asked, “How is God doing?”
Ps.40 “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will”
Peace in Christ,
Deacon Dennis

2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 St. Patrick Music Ministry
Did you know that our St. Patrick Music Ministry Team is mostly made
up of people just like you who may not be musically trained but who simply just love to sing? We are in need of parishioners like you who have a heart for singing our Lord’s praises.
REHEARSALS Adults: Tuesday evenings at 7pm.
Children: Thursday evenings at 6pm. Place: Music Room - lower level of parish center
Beginning in February, we will have “Open-Choir Hour” where you can come join us upstairs in the choir loft when you attend one of the Masses at which the choir is singing (usually the 4pm or the 9am Masses). We will have extra music books available for you, so just walk up to the choir loft when you enter church.
If you play piano or another instrument, consider learning/rehearsing one or two songs to join in along with the choirs. We can provide the music and instruction.
St. Patrick Church Music Ministers make a joyful noise unto the Lord, enhancing our liturgical services. We are, however, in need of new members in order to continue!! Come, we have a place saved for you.
Please contact Cecilia Adams, Music Director at [email protected] for more information.

Sacraments Baptism of Infants or children
under 7 years of age: You must be a registered parishioner of St. Patrick prior to scheduling a Baptism. To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism be-fore your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is re-quired for the parents. This class is offered on the 1st Sunday of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.
Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an overview of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be registered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Pat-rick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.

St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Registration - Do You Need to Register?
ARE YOU: (1) New to the parish; (2) Moving back; (3) Just Married; (4) Attending mass but never officially registered? (4) Even if you grew up in St. Patrick, you (as an adult) need to register independent from your parents.
Please do not take your church registration for granted. Attending Mass is not enough; there must be an official rec-ord of your membership in the Parish. Parish registration is essential for many reasons. It becomes important when you or your family members are receiving the Sacraments - First Communion, Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage. Registration is also required for those wishing to become a Baptism or Confirmation sponsor. In addition, becoming a member of a parish gives one the identity of belonging to a family—the parish family of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
If you are not officially registered with the parish, please do so as soon as possible. All you have to do is contact the par-ish office at 815-385-0025 or stop in during office hours and request a registration packet. Registration packets are also available on the parish website at www.stpatrickmchenry.org—just click on Registration/Moving at the top of the screen.

Call (312) 532-8286, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.ReflectRetreat.com for details
Welcome once again to ordi-nary time! Twice a year (after the Christmas season and following the Easter sea-
son) the priests all go back to wearing green and we all being going about the day to day duties of living our life in Christ. Sometimes it can seem like kind of a let-down following the increased activity and festivities of the holi-day season and the excitement of the big feasts. Or to bring it into the realm of psychology, we can find our-selves bored and restless because we’re no longer sur-rounded by the distractions and the busyness that the festive seasons provide us with. It is precisely in these moments, where we may struggle feel motivated or to know what to do with ourselves, that we have to choose to find our fulfillment in Christ. In some sense we can liken this phenomenon to that of parents who are empty-nesters for the first time! Sud-denly there is more time with less apparent things to do to fill this time! The fact of the matter is that when things slow down it can be tempting to simply run around trying to fill theme moments with all kinds of fleeting and empty things, because our minds are SO used to running at a high speed that they subconsciously don’t want to slow down. But the beautiful thing is that Ordinary Time, or any time that allows us to slow down for that matter, is a good thing. All of us need to take time to reflect, to pray, to be with the Lord in the quiet of our hearts. It is in this silence that we will be able to hear God tell us what HE wants for us to do rather than running off to do empty and meaningless things. So embrace the silence, em-brace the calm, and let God peacefully lead down His path.
“I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and remain upon him.” Encourage the Holy Spirit to enrich your marriage by taking part in a Worldwide Marriage Encoun-ter weekend on Jan. 20-22 in Brookfield, WI; Feb. 10-12 in Geneva, IL or March 17-19 in
Madison, WI. Early registration is highly recommended. For more information visit our website at: alife-timeoflove.org or call (888) 574-5653. Para un fin de semana en Espanol por favor llamen a Andres y Maria al 630-229-2600. Las fechas son Febrero 24-26, Junio 9-11 y Septiembre 15-17.
