Page 2 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord Dear Friends in Christ,

We offer to God, again this week, our prayers for you as we await the time that we can celebrate together as a faith community. I pray and hope that the Mass streaming online and other things we provide on our website (www.stpatrickmchenry.com) and Facebook page (St. Patrick Church) are helpful. Please let us know if you have needs in other areas and how me might be able to assist you.

We began this Lenten journey just over 5 weeks ago with our theme: “Lent: A time to know, love and serve God and Neighbor in the hope of Heaven.” With Palm Sunday this weekend, we enter into the holiest week of our liturgical calendar. While Holy Week will be different this year due to the Coronavirus, we encourage you to participate, as

much as possible through live streaming of Holy Week. Palm Sunday and Holy week present, in fruitful har-mony, both joyful and sorrowful moods that depict our journey as Christian people. We hear- Hosan-na...blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Shortly afterwards we also hear, crucify him. With these Jesus unites all our joys and sufferings to His so that in dying He might destroy our death and in His rising to new life ours may be restored in Him unto life eternal. I pray we can unite all our sufferings to His, especially the ones linked and associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Please join us, via live streaming, for the events of this Holy Week. Perhaps, you might be able to partake of some of the liturgical celebrations of the Easter Triduum that you haven't been able to in the past. At 8:00AM Monday-Wednesday we livestream the celebration of Daily Mass, followed by the Rosary. Holy Thursday starts the Easter Triduum (three most holy days before Easter). Bishop Malloy will celebrate the Chrism Mass at 11:00AM (without the faithful present) at St. Peter Cathedral in Rockford. All the priests of the dio-cese are requested to follow the Mass as it is streamed in order to renew together, from their individual par-ishes, their priestly promises. I would encourage you to take this opportunity to watch the Chrism Mass as well. This Mass will be livestreamed on the Rockford Diocese Facebook page - Diocese of Rockford. The Ho-ly Oils that we will use here at St. Patrick for Baptism, Anointing of the Sick and Confirmation will be blessed by the bishop. At 7:00PM we will livestream the Mass of the Last Supper and the institution of the Eu-charist. On Good Friday we livestream the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at 3:00PM. On Holy Saturday the Easter Vigil will be livestreamed beginning at 7:30PM and Easter Sunday Mass will be livestreamed at 9:00AM.

I am praying for you and for yours. Please remember to pray for me as well and pray for each other as well as our parish. We still count on your love and support in these difficult times. God is with us. Have a happy, blessed and Holy Week

In Christ,

Fr. Godwin

At this time, based on directives from Bishop David Malloy, all Masses and Liturgical events of Holy Week, through and including Easter Sunday will be celebrated privately and live-streamed to you our parishioners. FIVE SIMPLE WAYS TO CELEBRATE HOLY WEEK AT HOME Create a simple prayer space in your home, and gather there to pray during the week (in addition to watching our livestream) Palm Sunday: At your regular Mass time, read the first Palm Sunday Gospel (Mt 21:1–11) and meditate on or discuss what Jesus might be thinking as he enters Jerusalem for the last time. Holy Thursday: Bake bread for sharing at dinner; make a ritual of stripping the dinner table of all cloths and decorations after dinner. Good Friday: Pray the Stations of the Cross Holy Saturday: In the morning, read Psalm 64 and break your Good Friday fast solemnly with a simple meal. Easter Sunday: Dress up the dinner table again. Include candles and crosses, so that the candy baskets aren’t the only festive items present. Sing Alleluia and read the Easter Gospel (Matthew 28:1-10) with solemnity and joy. Look online for other suggestions for celebrating Holy Week at home, to deepen and enrich your experience. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Fasting: Catholics 18-59 are obliged to fast Abstinence: Catholics 14+ are obliged to abstain from meat. Those outside the age limits and those whose state of life (Pregnant-Woman, Ill, etc.) maybe excused but are encouraged to take up some other form of penance.

Word of Life

“Like us, Christ entered the world through the womb of a woman. He will-ingly experienced the fullness of human suffering. He breathed His last on the Cross at Calvary in order that He might save us. Therefore, ‘God is the founda-tion of hope: not any god, but the God who has a human face and one who has loved us to the end.’ (Spe salvi 31).”

NOVENA TO THE DIVINE MERCY Begin on Good Friday, April 10

On Good Friday, 1937, Jesus requested that St. Fausti-na make a special novena before the Feast of Mercy, from Good Friday through the following Saturday. He, Himself, dictated the intentions for each day. "I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the foun-

tain of My mercy, that they may draw from there strength and refresh-ment and whatever grace they need in the hardships of life, and espe-cially at the hour of death. On each day you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy, and I will bring all these souls into the house of My Father. You will do this in this life and in the next. I will deny nothing to any soul whom you will bring to the fount of My mercy. On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My bitter passion, for graces for these souls." **(1209)

Day 1: Today bring to Me all mankind, especially all sinners. Day 2: Today bring to Me the souls of priests and religious. Day 3: Today bring to Me all devout and faithful souls. Day 4: Today bring to Me those who do not believe in me & those who do not yet know Me. Day 5: Today bring to Me the souls of those who have separated themselves from the church. Day 6: Today bring to Me the meek and humble souls and souls of little children. Day 7: Today bring to Me the souls who especially venerate and glorify My Mercy. Day 8: Today bring to Me the souls who are detained in purgatory. Day 9: Today bring to Me the souls who have become lukewarm.

Simply state the daily intention and recite the chaplet in the usual way. Get the official app at https://www.thedivinemercy.org/apps/ OR watch it on the catholic cable network EWTN every day at 2PM our time.

Great News! A generous parishioner has indicated a willingness to match your donation $ for $ up to $75,000. Will you help us deliver the below equipment - worth up to $1 Million - to the hospital?

St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Registration - Do You Need to Register?

ARE YOU: (1) New to the parish; (2) Moving back; (3) Just Married; (4) Attending mass but never officially regis-tered? (5) Even if you grew up in St. Patrick, you (as an adult—18+) need to register independent from your par-ents.

Please do not take your church registration for grant-ed. Attending Mass is not enough; there must be an offi-cial record of your membership in the Parish. Parish reg-istration is essential for many reasons. It becomes im-portant when you or your family members are receiving the Sacraments - First Communion, Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage. Registration is also required for those wish-ing to become a Baptism or Confirmation sponsor. In addi-tion, becoming a member of a parish gives one the identity of belonging to a family—the parish family of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

If you are not officially registered with the parish, please do so as soon as possible. All you have to do is contact the parish office at 815-385-0025 or stop in during office hours and request a registration packet. Registration packets are also available on the parish website at www.stpatrickmchenry.org—just click on Registration at the top of the home page.

HELP OUT OUR ADVERTISERS Our Sunday bulletin is an important way for us to communi-cate with you, especially during these days of the Coronavirus pandemic. It might be the only way that we can reach some of you. Every bulletin that you receive is paid for through the generosity of the businesses that you see advertised on the back cover. Most of these advertisers are members of our local community, and many belong to our parish. We urge you to think of them when you decide to have a meal or other item delivered to your door. Tell the business owners that you appreciate their support of our parish through their advertise-ments in the bulletin. This is one small way that we can work within our own community to weather the challenges that we face. Together we can help each other make it through. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc
