THIRD SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 20-21, 2018

Paz y bien. Padre Rodolfo

The Holy Gospel According to St Mark (Mk 1:14-20) After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: "This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him. The Gospel of the Lord.

Reflection

On this third Sunday of "Ordinary Time" the Church invites us to conversion As Jesus, tells us: "Convert and believe in the Good News." This invitation allows us to reflect on the great importance of correcting and improving everything that is necessary in our lives. Because all human actions and attitudes connect with what God wants and expects from us, about us and with the vocation to listen to Jesus, follow him in everything and for everything, and proclaim him as the first disciples did, and as they have done it, we too can reach out to millions of people. Today is the opportunity to find God in Jesus Christ; now is the moment of our life in which we can decide if we will live a happy or miserable eternity; now is the time that God gives us to meet him, to live as his children and to live daily events that place the divine mark that Jesus Christ with his life sealed on us. Our life more or less long in time, will always be short, because as the Apostle Paul says: "the appearance of this world passes". What then awaits us will be an eternity with God and with his faithful in full life and happiness, or far away from God (and instead with the infidels) in life and total unhappiness. Only fifteen days ago we concluded the Christmas Holidays, and we will prepare soon for the celebration of the "Holy Week". We must understand that the hours, the days, the months and the years, are not to waste them, nor to settle down and pass them without pity nor glory with a "sterile living". But they are to live here and now what Jesus has proclaimed in the Gospel: to live in God, "loving him above all things in this world and to everyone as ourselves". Then with those who have loved this way, like Mary the Mother of God and our Mother, the saints and those who have been faithful until the end of earthly life, let us work together for the salvation of all, being other "fishermen of men and women for the Kingdom of God "and so we will not only share with others our faith in Jesus Savior, but also eternal life. Paz y bien. Fray Rodolfo

The Saint Paul Kof C Council will sponsor three Fish Fry Dinners during lent. They will take place on Fridays, February 23, March 9, and March 23 in the Church Hall. The cost is $8.

From the Office of Priestly and Religious

Vocations, Diocese of Wilmington Jonah did not answer God's call quickly; he wasn't interested in the mission God had for him. Sometimes the attraction of various career opportunities keeps us from being interested in hearing and responding to God's call. Is the Lord calling you to priesthood or to religious life? What could be more satisfying or fulfilling than taking on a mission from God? Call or write Father Norm Carroll, Diocesan Director of Priestly and Religious Vocations (302-573-3113 or [email protected]). Be sure to visit our website: www.cdow.org/vocations!
