OUR MISSION STATEMENT

SS. Peter & Paul Parish, a community of faith called by God to deepen

our relationship with Jesus Christ, serves the Lord by sharing our time,

talent and treasure. As disciples of Christ, we are called to bring Jesus

Christ to ourselves and others: our children, the sick, the poor, the fallen

away Catholics and those who need to hear God’s message of uncondi-

tional love and forgiveness. SS. Peter & Paul Parish is a beacon of light

rooted in Jesus Christ, passed on to his successor, our Holy Father the

Pope, and is guided by our local bishop to build the Kingdom of God on

Earth. It is our mission to shine the light of Jesus Christ in our world and

to spiritually enrich the individual members of the parish as well as the

larger community through word, worship, sacrament and service.

SACRAMENTS

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated Sundays after the 11:00 a.m. Mass. First time parents are asked to attend a welcoming session prior to baptism. Godparents are asked to present a sponsor card. Please call the parish office as soon as possible after your child’s birth to plan his or her baptism.

The Sacrament of Marriage—engaged couples should notify the pastor at least six months prior to their proposed date. Couples participate in a preparation program.

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick—please call the parish of-fice for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facili-ty.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is the official process used by the Church to bring adults into the Catholic faith.

SPIRITUAL DEVOTIONS

The Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet are prayed in common before weekday Masses.

The Perpetual Novena of the Miracu-lous Medal is prayed in common every Monday after the 8:30 a.m. Mass.

Eucharistic Adoration is held from 9:00 a.m. on the Thursday preceding First Fri-day until 2:00 p.m. on Friday in Grotto Hall and the church.

Sacred Heart Devotions are prayed in common after First Friday Masses.

Devotions to the Immaculate Heart of Mary are prayed in common after the First Saturday Masses.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) – August 5-9, 2018 Thanks to all who participated in the VBS this past week: those who volunteered to assist, and those who attended. All seemed to enjoy the experience and learning something new and interesting about the scriptures.

This program is for all age groups and should be entertaining, interesting, and a positive and enriching learning experience for everyone. Each program is 60-75 minutes in length and there will be some food availa-ble both prior to and after each performance. There will be childcare in Grotto Hall during the performance. It is free of charge. You are welcome to invite your friends and your neighbors to the performances. On Tuesday there will be an additional performance, titled Salt and Light, for St. Agnes School students and children.

*Luke – Stories on the Road*

In an evening that is both entertaining and eye-opening, Runyeon performs the famous parables in Luke's travel narrative, and then pauses to reflect on how we hear each story--and perhaps miss what it is really saying.

In many ways, we are much like Luke's first audience--affluent Greeks raised on aca-demics and theater. It's hard for us to "have ears to hear" these stories. So Runyeon does what Luke himself did. He starts with Jesus speaking in the synagogue at Nazareth, and takes us on a journey to Jerusalem, so we can hear these famous stories in order, and begin to hear what Jesus was really saying.

As Jesus said in the synagogue, "This Scripture is fulfilled, as your ears hear it." But how do we hear Scripture? All too often, as stories about other people, way back then--or as fables in a storybook— rather than as stories told in the tradition of the prophet Nathan, stories about our lives here and now.

Sharing stories from his own life and his friends' lives that are both funny and deeply touching, Runyeon helps us to see what we have been missing. And he encourages us to respond to these parables by entering the story God is telling right now, and coming to know the joy that Luke wrote about in his Gospel: the joy of becoming a story He is telling, out there, on the road.
