We are holding our annual Clean Sweep
Tag Sale next Saturday. Brenda Farrah
and I talked early in September about
attempting this fund raiser. The virus
has completely wiped out all the activities that we engage in
whether as a parish or as individuals. Would the tag sale
work? Are we at a point where folks are comfortable com-
ing out for a tag sale? What if we have it out of doors as
opposed to inside? We went back and forth. We could use
some cash, obviously, and even a little earned is better than
none. In the end we decided that nothing is certain these
days, but we would give it a go. We had already in antici-
pation of a spring sale some very nice items given to us by a
family cleaning out their mother’s condo. We have re-
ceived many things in excellent condition from another
family confronted with the sad task of emptying a house
after a death. We just may have more in terms of both vari-
ety and quantity than ever before. We even have brand new
bikes and flat screen TVs still in the box. We have so many
things, in fact, that it has become impossible to move them
all outside, so while the vendors will be outside, our things
will be in the parish hall. We will control the number of
people inside to 25, inclusive of the workers, so that we
maintain social distancing. Although we have the large
banner, word of mouth advertising is always a big help. Let
folks know that our sale is next Saturday. Let’s make some
money for our strained budget!

October , Month of the Rosary
Each year the month of October is dedicated to the Most
Holy Rosary. It was instituted to honor the Blessed Vir-
gin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the
Church in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faith-
ful. The feast was introduced by Pope St. Pius in the year
1571 to commemorate the miraculous victory of the Chris-
tian forces in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. The
pope attributed more to the "arms" of the Rosary than the
power of cannons and the valor of the soldiers who fought
there.
Find time throughout the month to pray the rosary as a fam-
ily and remember to join your child’s Zoom session on Sun-
day October 11 to pray the rosary.

***SAINT PETER SCHOOL NEWS***
This week students have been learning from
home. They will return to in-person learning on
September 28, 2020.
What have the students been up to this past week?
All students, PK - 8, have been participating in a combina-
tion of synchronous learning (online learning that happens
in real time) and asynchronous learning (students learn at
their own pace and follow their own pathway which is set
up by the teacher.)
In addition, the students participated in daily prayer just as
they would if they were in school. The only difference is
Interested in becoming a Catholic?
Are you an adult (18+) Catholic who has not
received the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or
Confirmation?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is the normative way in which non-Catholics –
those un-baptized as well as those baptized into other
Christian denominations – enter the Church. It is also the
way baptized Catholics who never received any catechesis
and didn’t receive Eucharist and Confirmation complete
their Sacraments of Initiation. The Inquiry Period is Octo-
ber 1, 8 and 15 when we will have weekly Thursday eve-
ning sessions for those who want to explore the process.
To express interest or to learn more, please call the office
(203-743-2707).
they receive a pre-recording of the daily prayers which are
then reinforced with their teachers. They are encouraged to
recite The Prayer to St. Michael at least once per day.
This week Safe Environment Workshops occurred through
virtual means and included videos and live question and
answer opportunities. All teachers were able to ensure that
this was available to all students and recorded it for those
who might not have been able to participate during the live
session.
Every year St. Peter School determines a theme which
serves to unite us as a community and give us a shared fo-
cus to provide inspiration to our school community. With
the guidance of Father Mecca, our theme for the 2020-2021
school year is "I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me." (Phillipians 4:13)
We thank you as always for your ongoing prayers for our
school community.
—-Mrs. Mary Lou Torre, Principal
We offer our condolences to the families of
Louise Oviatt
who passed away last week.
We flip the calendar this week, and October, as you
know, is the month dedicated to the Rosary. We always
have an evening dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary some-
time close to the feast (7th). Even though people remain
reluctant to gather, I do not want to neglect this devotion.
Therefore, we will have it on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m.
There is much apprehension, much too much of it these
days, and we need divine help, help which Our Blessed
Mother can give us. As is our custom, we will pray the Ro-
sary before the Blessed Sacrament. (We will have to elimi-
nate some singing, however.) What could give Our Lady
more joy than for us to meditate upon the Mysteries in the
presence of her Son? We will conclude with Benediction.
There will be a book on which you may write your inten-
tions. We will place it before the statue of the Blessed
Mother and leave it there for the entire month.

Music Notes
The organ music at the 10:30 am Mass this weekend was composed by Denis
Bedard, currently organist at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver, Canada. Suite Liturgic is in four move-
ments, each named after a part of the liturgy: Entree, Offertoire, Communion, and Sortie. These four move-ments will be played this morning at their appointed spot at the entrance, offertory, communion, and reces-sional. The Catholic Church has a rich history of the liturgical use of the organ at Mass, including Organ Masses in which the organ played in alternation with the choir for the Ordinary of the Mass. With the ab-sence of congregation singing during this coronatide, I think it may be nice to explore more the liturgical use of the organ at Mass. Stay tuned!
