There will be a second collection next weekend

for the Church in Latin America

An except from a letter from Bishop McManus:

The Collection for the Church in Latin America em-

powers the faithful of Latin America and the Carib-

bean to deepen their faith and share it with each

other and the world. A significant portion of this col-

lection is also used to assist in the ongoing efforts of

our own Diocesan Hispanic Ministry, which serves

the large number of Hispanic and Latino Catholics

who are now in the Diocese of Worcester. It is grati-

fying to see the life of faith flourishing in these parish

communities as their faith life enriches us all.

I encourage you to respond to the theme to “Share

your Faith” by supporting the special Collection for

the Church in Latin America when your parish takes

up the collection. Please be assured of my apprecia-

tion for your generous response.

With every prayerful best wish, I remain,

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Robert J. McManus

Bishop of Worcester

8TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME MARCH 2, 2019

A Note from

Fr. Tom

Green “today,” purple

“tomorrow.” The weeks of Ordi-

nary Time that have followed

the Christmas Season now give

way to Lent, which will begin

this week on Ash Wednesday, March 6. You will find

the schedule of liturgies here at St. Peter’s Church, on

the Northbridge Campus of Salmon Health for residents

of Beaumont and Whitney Place, as well as at Milford

Regional Medical Center in this bulletin.

Lent was among the earliest developments in

the liturgical life of the Universal Church. It was both a

time of unique preparation of those who would be wel-

comed into the Church at the great feast of all feasts –

the celebration of Easter, and a time of renewed focus

upon the Paschal Mystery for all those living in Com-

munion with Christ. The very rites of our Easter Vigil

take much of their shape and substance from that min-

istry to reveal the Mystery to those being initiated and

to welcome them to share intimately in that Mystery in

Word and Sacrament. The liturgies of all of Holy Week

summon us as believers to be immersed anew in the

service, the passion, the death, and the resurrection of

Christ.

On Ash Wednesday, we are invited and encour-

aged to gather for this corporate act of making our-

selves more fully open to and during the weeks ahead

more fully committed to that Mystery of Christ’s dying

and rising. Submitting to be signed with the blessed

ashes, we offer to and seek support from the living

Body of Christ, the Church. We pledge to ourselves, to

one another, AND to God to turn away from sin and to

believe the Good News, for we acknowledge we are

dust and to dust we all return. These ashes are not a

“brand” we wear to impress the world, but rather a com-

mitment to ourselves, to one another, and to GOD that

we KNOW we have some work to do in the weeks

ahead, and with God’s grace and mutual support we

will do it. Extra effort, deeper sacrifice, more time given

to prayer on our own and in the company of the

Church, will meet the abundance of God’s grace, and

Holy Week and Easter will, indeed, be a time of great

rejoicing!

During the days ahead, David Supernor will be

accompanied by Peter Sabourin through the final

stages of his journey to be welcomed into full commun-

ion with the Catholic Church. His journey becomes one

with ours, and our journey is all the richer for the gift of

his presence among us! Please keep David and Peter

in your prayers!

Fr. Tom

How about making a Cursillo !

Cursillo or "short course in Christianity" is an uplifting and

educational experience. Cursillo was brought from Spain

to the United States in 1962. The weekend is facilitated by

a team of laypeople and clergy who deliver organized talks

and discussions. What the presenters add to the talks is

the witness of their own lives, their struggles and triumphs

in Christ. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great

music, wonderful meals and so much more. Our 2019

dates are: Men’s - March 21-24 & October 10-13;

Women’s - May 2-5 & November 14-17. All weekends will

be held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal

Center in Putnam, CT. For additional information, please

contact Sue Leighton at 508-278-3155 or sleigh-

[email protected] OR Joan Laracy at 774-239-2474 or

[email protected].

Taize in Worcester

The Worcester Taize group gathers at Blessed Sacrament

Church, 551 Pleasant St., Worcester.

The next service is March 10 at 7 pm

(Snow Date March 17).

The Taize tradition is a style of sacred music and prayer

developed in France after World War II by Catholics and

Protestants to come together in song and prayer for peace

in the world and unity in the Christian faith. Songbooks

available to sing along. To sing with the choir, please con-

tact Will Raymond at 508-775-3847 or

[email protected].

LIfeteen: The Altaration series continues this Sun-

day evening. Parents joined us for this years parents ses-

sions. We hope everyone found the night interesting.

This week’s “lesson” looked really good when we pre-

viewed is at our planning meeting. Hope all the parents

who were unable to make it last week will join in this week.

Confirmation: The work for week 4 of the

Called to Mercy program is due next Sunday evening. Our

next gathered session will be held on March 14th 6:30pm

Edge: our series on morality continued this past

Tuesday. We “re wrote” the 10 commandments for Edge

in a positive way to show the kids that the commandments

don’t hold us back but set us free to live the best life we

can!

We will be hosting families next Tuesday at our Ashes to

Ashes night. Parents and siblings are invited to join us for

this night that leads into the Lenten season. We will have

light snacks available on this Fat Tuesday night! Wear

your purple, gold and green for extra tickets this week.

Loreto: March Gathering Day

We are on our final session of the Parts of the Mass. We

will learn all about the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the

Concluding Rites. I hope the children have enjoyed learn-

ing all about the Mass as much as we have had teaching

it.

The children are continuing to collect snacks for the ele-

mentary schools food closets for children who attend

school without a snack or a lunch. If you would like help

the children with their Little Disciples Community Service

Treats, Gold Fish, Fruit cups, Chips, granola bars. Thank

you!!

ing as to what our environment is going to look like! With

that being said, we are taking donations of gallon milk or

water jugs. Non-squished please with the caps. The only

thing we ask is that you wash them prior to donating as

they would be pretty stinky by June! Thank you!!!
