PRAYER OF THE HEART MEDITATION WORKSHOPS
Please join Parish Council Member and Meditation Teacher, Maria Baltazzi, as she leads group sessions on an inward journey, using the Prayer of the Heart to discover how contemplative prayer meditation can benefit us and the world around us. The Prayer of the Heart is based on the Jesus Prayer. Each week will begin with a short discussion on spirituality followed by a guided meditation.
The meditation workshops are held every two weeks.
Next session: Jan 3

Half Day Retreat Saturday, January 14th
Setting Intentions for 2017: Heart vs Ego
You are invited to join Parish Council Member and Meditation Teacher, Maria Baltazzi on a very special inward journey.
Start the year with good intentions, ones that come from the heart instead of the ego. Through a series of writing exercises and quiet contemplation, Maria will guide you in setting spiritually meaningful goals for the coming year. Your time together will also include an extended Prayer of the Heart Meditation session.

A SINCERE THANK YOU to all the parishioners who generously donated to our Angel Tree. We were able to serve two less fortunate families, one with five children and the second one with three children, by giving them lovely gifts that were needed and most welcomed. Thank you to Barbara Kappos and Christina Peratsakis for their efforts also.
DEBUTANTE BALL – Sunday, January 15, 2017
Sixteen beautiful young ladies from across Southern California will be presented at our biennial Debutante Ball this year. It is always a special evening to remember, not only for our debutantes, but as well for the parents, families and friends who are present. We welcome your presence and any financial support you can offer.

MOTHER OF THE YEAR 2017 - We are accepting applications for Mother of the Year at this time. We will make our selection by February 1st, so please note. Applications will be provided in the church office and on Sundays during Coffee Hour at our Philoptochos table. The Mother’s Day Luncheon will be Saturday, May 13, 2017. (See application included in this newsletter)

MEMBERSHIP FOR 2017 – Jan Pastras, 1st V.P. will be accepting membership dues for 2017 starting this month. Please help us increase our membership so we can expand our charitable work. Ladies of all ages are encouraged to join our Philoptochos chapter. We welcome gentlemen as associate members as well.

PHILOPTOCHOS BOARD ELECTIONS

In order to be eligible to run for the board one must be a member in good standing with the Philoptochos chapter and the church. Also, one must have attended at least 4 meetings during the year. There will be a general meeting each month in 2017 from January- April, so please attend our meetings, especially if you are interested in being on our Board of Directors.

I hope everyone has a nice Christmas. I would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Your board has prepared a fun schedule for you.
January as always we have our most enjoyable event, Prizes and Surprises. It will take place on Thursday January 19, 2017. Start time is 11:30am, $10.00 per person. Chair person is Ourania Giagtzoglou, cochairman is Anne Dres and reservations is Angela Ananias. Please call 562-695-7234.
February is Kathara Deftera Luncheon. Prepared by VIP board chefs, with the famous tourlou, taramosalata, fruit and Lenten dessert.
March, possible event is a trip to St. Nicholas Ranch or a day trip to Temecula. Details to follow.
April is our Easter, so no events are planned.
May is our Senior Citizen Luncheon. It will be held on Tuesday 5/18/17. Further details to follow.
I hope that everyone will be able to attend our events. The board is here to facilitate you. For any event, please try to make your reservations early. We always have late reservations which makes it difficult for us to organize the meals.
