W elcome! You may have come as a stranger to us, yet you are known to our
Lord, Jesus Christ. In His name, we pray you will find peace, hospitality and friendship with us.
Jesus commissions his disciples to baptize in his name, reminding them that he is always present through his Spirit. Having ascended to his Father amid cries of gladness, we are to be his witnesses for we have been gifted with his Spirit of wisdom and revelation. Let us, therefore, live in a manner worthy of the call we have received.

Msgr. Lofton will be doing an appeal on behalf
of the people in Suva the weekend of May
22/23. Unlike the U.S. that has programs set
up for people struggling as result of Covid, the
students of Suva rely on the schools to feed
them. However, their schools have been
closed and the children are going hungry. We
are in need of your prayers and financial
support. Please be generous we thank you in
advance for your support.

This year the Men’s Retreat will be offered on Saturday, June 12th, and Sunday, June 13th. It will be a great way to begin your “post-pandemic” summer! The retreat is only 1 ½ days so it is easy to fit in to most schedules. The Retreat Team is preparing a great experience you! We’ll delve into our faith, the power of prayer, sacred scripture, the Eucharist, forgiveness and other topics in a comfortable, private environment. We will listen, pray, laugh, joke, and eat…boy will we eat! Most importantly you will have the opportunity to draw closer to Jesus. As the world seems to spin out of control, our faith is our strength and Christ Jesus our rock and our salvation. He brings peace and order into our lives. Draw closer to Him. Come to the Men’s Retreat. We are anticipating a large number of retreatants and Space is limited so we urge you to register early. Additionally, our Open Pantry has provided food for 15 families, which amounts to 137 more people served. We would like to SINCERELY thank ALL of you who have donated. None of this could have happened without your support. Because we are serving more of the community's needy, we are in need of several items. Those are: Spaghetti Sauce Pancake Mix Rice Cooking oil Flour Sugar Condiments Cleaning Supplies We will be collecting these items throughout the month of May. Each month we will have a different need. Stay tuned each month to see how you can serve your fellow man.

Thursday through Sunday, July 8th – 11th Duluth, Georgia: Steubenville Atlanta Conference - High Schoolers (Rising 9th Graders up to recent graduates) are invited to participate in this powerful Catholic youth experience. The ultimate goal of a Steubenville Conference is a life-changing encounter with Christ. However, the weight on an encounter like that is only really appreciated after having one. For that reason, when inviting a teen to a
Steubenville Conference, we suggest beginning with belonging. Every teen desires to belong – Sin and Shame convince them they do not. They’re not alone. Others have the same struggles they do. The world says they must change to belong – God meets them where they are. It is $250 per youth to participate in the weekend. This includes meals, transportation, hotel, and conference registration. Must be registered
by May 9th. THEY HAVE AN IMPORTANT PLACE IN THE CHURCH. THIS EVENT WON’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT THEM. Registration: https://thelittleflower.flocknote.com/signup/52513
Sunday, June 27th, 1 pm to 5 pm: Fun Nun Bowl VIII by Carolina Catholic Professionals - Charity Bowling Tournament to build a greater Catholic community and promote the incredible work of several key local and international charities. Teams of six bowlers, each with food and non-alcoholic beverages included. All parishioners, families, and youth welcome. More information and
registration to be provided soon!
Youth Ministry Summer – For the total of all the exciting youth and family events we have coming up this summer, please see StTheresaChurch.com/Summer for all the details and to register for all the possibilities. We have Steubenville Atlanta Catholic Youth Conference Registration and information, a charity bowling tournament, sports days for all ages, beach days for just the youth and families, a RiverDogs Youth Ministry Night, and many more great opportunities. We are thrilled you will be there!
Bottles for Babies Starts This Week
This year beginning on
Mother’s Day weekend
through Father’s Day weekend Respect Life is
asking parishioners to make a special sacrifice
on behalf of young mothers facing the most
difficult decision of their lives and who benefit
from our three prolife pregnancy centers (Low
Country Pregnancy Center, Birthright and
Dazz of Charleston). Following all masses
empty baby bottles will be in the gathering
area. We ask that these be filled at home with
change or checks and returned when full. (We
would love for you to write one check for the
total amount you collect.) Bottles may be
returned at any Mass and there will be new
ones available for distribution throughout this
campaign. Helping young mothers, their
babies, and fathers too is a wonderful family
project. All proceeds from the campaign will be
distributed equally between the three centers.
We are hoping this will be a most successful
campaign and we are grateful as always for
your support
for these
young
women and
babies.
For all Weed Busters and anyone who would like to join us: the next Saturday workdays will be 05/22/21 and 06/19/21. Please mark your calendars and join us to help keep St. Theresa Parish beautiful!
St.Theresa' s Music Ministry :- ' The Hymns we Sing ' - ' Come Thou Almighty King ' - ( author unknown ) As we recess today , we sing this celebratory hymn which is thought to be approx. 350 years old . The authorship is uncertain , but it has been traced back to 1755 , where it appeared in Whitfield's Collection of Hymns . It has been attributed to Charles Wesley but it is now widely considered that this is incorrect . - Wesley did not use this distinct poetic meter in any of his hymns or poems , nor did he ever claim ' Come Thou Almighty King ' as his own . It seems that the fact that this poem appeared in a tract with a Wesley hymn led to this assumption . Until 1905 , the hymn was published in Wesley's name , and American Methodists have included it in their hymnals since 1814 . The meter used is very distinctive and similar to 'America /My country 'tis of Thee ' . This is also the melody of the British national anthem ' God save our Gracious Queen ' . As the hymn could not be sung to this melody in England , it was paired with an Italian tune by Felice de Giardini , written specially for it in 1769 . It is interesting to experiment and sing the hymn to the 'America ' tune , as the overall feel is much more solemn ! This is a classical hymn of awe and celebration of the Trinity . In verse 1 , the Father is glorified in the text used - ' King ' , ' Father ' , and ,at the close , 'Ancient of Days ' ( the poetic phrase used by the Prophet Daniel ( Daniel 7 : 9 ,13 ,22 ). Much reverential language is used throughout the hymn .The Son is not named , not even to call Him ' Son of God ', but rather He is present as the ' Incarnate Word ' (the term of reverence used in John 1 : 1 , and 1 John 5 : 7 ) and ' Spirit of Holiness ' ( Romans 1 : 4 ) . At the end of the second verse , the Holy Spirit is introduced and the plea is sung for Him to come to us , '' on us descend " . In verse 3 , ' Holy Comforter ' ( as in John 14 : 15 , 26 , 15 : 26 , 16 : 7 ) and ' Spirit of Power ' are used to give two different images of the Holy Spirit , - that He comforts , upholds and sustains us and that His power is almighty . In the final verse , ' Great One in Three ' gives a title of honor to the beloved Trinity . In just a few days from now we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord ; how fitting that we should sing this old and lovely hymn today . May we pray together at this time ,
'' Come Holy Spirit , we invite you into our hearts , we welcome you , and we pray that you will find in us a dwelling place for the fire of your grace and divine love . With the words of this ancient hymn , we celebrate your
most Holy Trinity : Great One in Three , we give our eternal praises to you now and forever more . Sovereign Majesty , may we love and adore you from now until eternity . May we love you on earth with the fullness of our
hearts until , by Your Grace , the day comes that we are received into Your Presence in glory . In Jesus ' name , we pray . Amen . "
