INTRODUCTION. Every February 14th, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine.

There are different ideas of how the celebration of Valentine's Day began.

Some people say that is about a Roman’s celebration that christians replace for Valentine in a more Cristian way. Others think that is about a priest who died defending the love. There are a lot of stories, lets talk about some valentine’s aspects and how in differents parts of the world people celebrate it.

BODY. (HISTORY) Roman's celebrated a festival called Lupercalia on February 15. This festival was held to ward off the danger of wolves to their flocks and honored their God Lupercalia. Some people think that Valentine's Day is based on this festival.

WHO WAS SAINT VALENTINE? First of all, there was more than one called valentine, one of them was

sentenced to death for marrying young couples secretly. Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those that were married and outlawed marriage for all young men serving in

his army. Later, Pope Gelasius declared February 14th as a day of honoring the Valentine’s Day at the end of the 5th century. It wasn’t until the 1300’s

that the holiday got associated to love and romance, then people believed that

February 14th was also the beginning of birds mating season.

NOWADAYS In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France and Australia.

It was common for friends and lovers of all social classes to exchange small tokens of affection or handwritten notes.

Printed cards began to replace written letters due to improvements in printing technology.

According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year.

CONCLUSION. Many people around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day by showing appreciation for the people they love or adore. Some people take their loved ones for a romantic dinner at a restaurant while others may choose this day to propose or get married. Many people give greeting cards, chocolates, jewelry or flowers, particularly roses, to their partners or admirers on Valentine’s Day.

It is also a time to appreciate friends in some social circles and cultures. In differents parts of the world Valentine's Day is known as Day of Love and Friendship. It is similar to Valentine’s Day customs and traditions countries such as the United States but it is also a time for many to show their appreciation for their friends. Have a lot of meaning in the world, even when people think that it’s all about sell stuff, Valentine’s Day is a greate date to stay with your friend, family or lovers, it’s a great day to love.
