PARISH CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH ON December 30TH2018 – FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY

The feast of the Holy Family is traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday after Christmas .This year our parish is looking forward to celebrating this feast in a special way by consecrating our families to the Holy Family. It is our hope that this consecration may help strengthen our families and revitalize our parish. The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring this program. The consecration of our families will take place on Sunday, December 30th. Since this Feast Day of The Holy Family falls on December 30th, the Consecration will take place at all of the masses. I will ask all families to stand at the end of each Mass for a brief ceremony. Try to attend Mass together as a family that week-end. DON’T MISS THIS WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY. Fr. Vincent

“My Monastery Is a Minivan” Denise Roy describes herself as “a middle-age mom with kids, a mortgage, ten extra pounds, and no chance of getting smiles from guys in other cars.”

After one-too-many laps around the car-pool track, Denise decided to trade keys with her husband and join a friend for a weekend silent retreat at a nearby monastery. Her experience gave her a surprisingly new perspective on her relationship with her 110,000-mile Dodge Caravan. “Chauffeur Mom” writes in her funny, insightful book My Monastery Is a Minivan:

“I was sitting in the chapel, grateful for the silence and yet beginning to miss my family. As I sat there, I noticed that I was surrounded by beautiful stained-glass windows. And then the thought crept in: My minivan has REALLY stained glass windows. I brought myself back to the present moment, back to being transported by the angels to heavenly realms. And then I had another thought: In my minivan, I transport angels to heaven-knows-where . . . Suddenly, an onslaught of com-parisons burst into my head: In the monastery, I meditate; in the minivan, I mediate. In the monastery, psalms are sung; in the minivan, palms are flung. Repetitive schedules are found in both the monastery and the minivan: 8 A.M., chapel, 8 A.M., car pool; 3 P.M., chapel, 3 P.M., car pool; 6 P.M., chapel, 8 P.M., car pool . . .

“My monastery is not a silent cell out in the wilderness. My monastery is a minivan. It is also a kitchen, a child’s bedroom, an office. My monastery is in the heart of the world – in family life, with a child on my lap, in my partner’s arms.”

Today’s Feast of the Holy Family is a celebration of and for every family: that one special, holy place in our lives where the love of God first and always dwells. Within our families, our SUVs are monasteries of welcome and safety, our dinner tables are cenacles where the gifts of God are shared, our houses are sanctuaries of love and forgiveness.

The Fathers at Vatican II called the family “the domestic sanctuary of the Church.” Within the “little church” of our families we experience the heights of joy and depths of pain – and through all of those memories, God is present in the love we offer one another in the safe harbors of our families.

The Holy Family of the Child, Mary and Joseph, models for our own families the light of God’s peace in our midst as we confront those same tensions and crises in our life together.

Deacon Jay

We’ve got the TIME and the TALENT, do you have the TREASURE??

The garage behind St. Julie Hall is a storage space for much

of the equipment used at the St. Joseph campus. It needs

some major renovation like a metal roof, siding and garage

doors. We have a talented parishioner who has offered to

donate all of the labor for the project but we need to pro-

vide the materials. Would you be able to help?

The projected cost is $5000.00. Thank you for your consid-

eration and generosity!

Pro-Life Mass The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring the Pro-Life Mass on January 20 at 9:30am at Mary Queen of Peace. On “Sanctity of Human Life “Sunday we celebrate God’s gift of life, commemorate lives lost to abortion and com-mit ourselves to protect human life at every stage. January 22nd marks the 46th anniversary of the Su-preme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, legalizing abortion on demand. In our nation, over 60 million infants have been aborted. Please plan on attending this liturgy to pray for our coun-try, for women contemplating abortion and for all the unborn infants. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are

young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 In an effort to call our young people forward in our com-munity, Fr Vincent has invited all high schoolers to partici-pate in Mass as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Alter Serv-ers, Greeters and Ushers. In order to make that happen, the current 6:30 Sunday evening Mass at St Josephs will become a 5pm Mass be-ginning January 6th with Love Out Loud High School Youth Group to follow the Mass. Please come and support our young people as they set an example by their witness of service!

WHAT’S HAPPENING? In watching the news, have you ever noticed how families & communities often come closer together when working through a “shared crisis”? There are countless examples through history. Look at the early Chris-tians. We here at Saints Mary & Joseph Parish are currently working through a transition phase that could be considered a “shared crisis.” The Bishop has made clear his decision to keep both church campuses viable. Rather than stick our heads in the sand and “hope & pray for the best”, we need to move forward. Several projects and much-needed mainte-nance tasks have already been completed in the past year. Some notables include:

New LED lighting in BOTH churches (using existing fixtures). “Yellow House” on Main St., next to St. Joseph Church, has been sold. All parish long-term debt has been PAID OFF! Seal-coating and re-striping of parking lot at St. Joseph. Removal of abandoned 6000-gal. underground oil tank at St. Joseph. Fresh interior painting & new chairs at St. Julie Hall. Floor stripping & waxing at MQP Church. Carpet cleaning at BOTH campuses (in progress). Parish Office renovations (in progress).

Most of the recent projects have been funded through a combination of the sale of the “Yellow House” on Main St., next to St. Joseph Church, and generous donations from the Knights of Columbus and others. Please consider how you can be a part of this tangible effort to show that we CAN continue to move forward together as a Parish Family, through your continued financial support, volunteering your time & talents, do-nating business skills & materials, etc. Thank you.
