It writes that Sajad Lone has been one of the most remarkable politicians in Indian Politics in 2015. This year he was sworn in as Min- ister for Science and Technol- ogy and Animal Husbandry in Mufti Sayeed-led government in Jammu and Kashmir. “The People's Conference Chairman has been an erst- while influential pro-free- dom leader and part of the separatist Hurriyat Confer- ence before making a switch over to mainstream politics. In the state election last year, Lone was elected from the sensitive Handwara constit- uency, paving way for him to become a minister in the state govern- ment,” the Khaleej Times writes. Born on Decem- ber 9, 1966, Sajjad is the younger son of Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone who was assassinat- ed on May 21, 2002 by uniden- tified gunmen at Eidgah in old city here. His father’s killing was a turning point for Lone. He took the electoral plunge in April 2009 and contested as an independent candidate from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat. The 48-year- old, who married daughter of Jammu and Kashmir Libera- tion Front founder Amanul- lah Khan , spent the next five years to galvanize his party cadres. He gave a miss to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls himself but fielded a candidate from the north Kashmir constitu- ency who lost. Sajjad was elected to the state assembly from Handwara in 2014. He defeated sitting minister Chaud- hary Muhammad Ramzan of National Conference. Peoples Confer- ence led by Sajjad also man- aged to win the nearby Kup- wara assembly segment as his party candidate Bashir Ahmad Dar defeated three- time National Conference MLA Mir Saifullah. Lone’s inclusion in the government from BJP quota did not come as a surprise as his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November last year ahead of the Assembly polls had fuelled speculations of a tie- up. Sajjad did his schooling from the prestigious Burn Hall School in Srinagar. He completed his high school in 1980. He graduated from University of Wales, College of Cardiff, UK in 1989. The charismatic Lone is also the author and the propounder of Achievable Nationhood’, which talks about economically single boundary-less Jammu and Kashmir jointly managed by India and Pakistan. Sajjad an articulate orator became instant hit among youngsters during 2008 and 2010 agitation due to his par- ticipation in TV debates. He was also selected for the pres- tigious British Chevevning scholarship a few years ago. The other ‘Indians’ who according to KT made a mark in their respective fields this year include Nobel Peace prize winner activist Kailash Satyarthi, nuclear scientist MR Srinivasan who was awarded Padma Vibhushan , Singer Ankit Tiwari, athlete Saina Nehwal and novelist Amish Tripathi. MUKEET AKMALI Srinagar, Aug 15: The important link road con- necting Hanjiwara with Magam was last macad- amized in 2008, since then officials of the Roads and Building department have paid no heed towards the dilapidated condition of this road stretch, which connects north and central Kashmir. The 7-Km road stretch which falls under the jurisdiction of two assem- bly constituencies of Pattan and Gulmarg, as per locals should have been the priority of both MLAs who represent the area, but the stretch which connects vari- ous areas and localities in north Kashmir from Hanjiwara to Magam in central Kashmir has been ignored by the authori- ties. The dilapidated con- dition of the road can be gauged by the fact that vehicle owners prefer to use this road as big pot- holes damage their vehi- cles, similarly students who have to pass through the road to attend schools say it’s a “nightmare for them to walk on the road during rainy season.” A local numberdar, Abdul Salam Bhat of Khore (Sherabad) area which is situated on the road stretch narrates the trauma which the local populace has to face each day due to this road being in shambles. “We are now tired of pleading before ministers and officials to repair this road stretch. Two govern- ments have come to power since the road was last mac- adamized, but nobody both- ers to repair this important link road which connects north and central Kashmir,” Bhat said. He added that in past many pregnant women developed complications while travel- ling through the road. As per locals, the road is an important link for people mostly students of the area to attend colleges, schools located in Sherabad area. Further the road problem is complicated by Ferozpur Nallah, whose water during rainy days seeps into the road stretch making it difficult for people to walk on it. Not only local residents, but transporters are up in arms against the administra- tion for failing to repair this road stretch. “Many drivers simply refuse to take passen- gers on this road as it dam- ages their vehicles and reduc- es the tyre life,” locals said adding that this road is used to ferry tourists to famed tourism destinations of Gul- marg and Tangmarg. Even the shopkeepers in the area are complaining of slump in business due to dilapidated condition of the road. “We have developed chest complications due to dust emanating from the road and our business has suf- fered badly,” said a local shopkeeper. When contacted, Chief Engineer, Roads and Build- ing Satish Razdan said that blacktopping of Hanjiwara- Magam road is in our scheme of things. “We will soon start macad- imization of the road stretch in future,” he added. Pray for Geelani’s recovery, long life: Salahuddin to People Srinagar, Aug 15: The United Jihad Council (UJC) chairman and Hizb- ul-Mujahideen Supreme Commander Syed Sala- huddin today expressed serious concern over the falling health of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Gee- lani, appealing people of Kashmir to pray for his recovery and long life. “Geelani Sahab is the leader and living soul of the ongoing movement of Kashmir. become a minister in the state govern-ment,” the Khaleej Times writes.

Born on Decem-ber 9, 1966, Sajjad is the younger son of Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone who was assassinat-ed on May 21, 2002 by uniden-tified gunmen at Eidgah in old city here. His father’s killing was a turning point for Lone.

He took the electoral plunge in April 2009 and contested as an independent candidate from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat. The 48-year-old, who married daughter of Jammu and Kashmir Libera-tion Front founder Amanul-lah Khan , spent the next five years to galvanize his party cadres. He gave a miss to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls himself but fielded a candidate from the north Kashmir constitu-ency who lost.

S a j j a d w a s elected to the state assembly from Handwara in 2014. He defeated sitting minister Chaud-hary Muhammad Ramzan of National Conference.

Peoples Confer-ence led by Sajjad also man-aged to win the nearby Kup-wara assembly segment as his party candidate Bashir Ahmad Dar defeated three-time National Conference MLA Mir Saifullah.

Lone’s inclusion in the government from BJP quota did not come as a surprise as his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November last year ahead of the Assembly polls had fuelled speculations of a tie-up.

Sajjad did his schooling from the prestigious Burn Hall School in Srinagar. He completed his high school

in 1980. He graduated from University of Wales, College of Cardiff, UK in 1989.

The charismatic Lone is also the author and the propounder of Achievable Nationhood’, which talks about economically single boundary-less Jammu and Kashmir jointly managed by India and Pakistan.

Sajjad an articulate orator became instant hit among youngsters during 2008 and 2010 agitation due to his par-ticipation in TV debates. He was also selected for the pres-tigious British Chevevning scholarship a few years ago.

The other ‘Indians’ who according to KT made a mark in their respective fields this year include Nobel Peace prize winner activist Kailash Satyarthi, nuclear scientist MR Srinivasan who was awarded Padma Vibhushan , Singer Ankit Tiwari, athlete Saina Nehwal and novelist Amish Tripathi.

Srinagar, Aug 15: The important link road con-necting Hanjiwara with Magam was last macad-amized in 2008, since then officials of the Roads and Building department have paid no heed towards the dilapidated condition of this road stretch, which connects north and central Kashmir.

The 7-Km road stretch which falls under the jurisdiction of two assem-bly constituencies of Pattan and Gulmarg, as per locals should have been the priority of both MLAs who represent the area, but the stretch which connects vari-ous areas and localities in north Kashmir from Hanjiwara to Magam in central Kashmir has been ignored by the authori-ties.

The dilapidated con-dition of the road can be gauged by the fact that vehicle owners prefer to use this road as big pot-holes damage their vehi-cles, similarly students who have to pass through the road to attend schools say it’s a “nightmare for them to walk on the road during rainy season.”

A local numberdar, Abdul Salam Bhat of Khore (Sherabad) area which is situated on the road stretch narrates the trauma which the local populace has to face each day due to this road being in shambles.

“We are now tired of pleading before ministers and officials to repair this road stretch. Two govern-

ments have come to power since the road was last mac-adamized, but nobody both-ers to repair this important link road which connects north and central Kashmir,” Bhat said.

He added that in past many pregnant women developed complications while travel-ling through the road.

As per locals, the road is an important link for people mostly students of the area to attend colleges, schools located in Sherabad area.

Further the road problem is complicated by Ferozpur

Nallah, whose water during rainy days seeps into the road stretch making it difficult for people to walk on it.

Not only local residents, but transporters are up in arms against the administra-tion for failing to repair this road stretch. “Many drivers simply refuse to take passen-gers on this road as it dam-ages their vehicles and reduc-es the tyre life,” locals said adding that this road is used to ferry tourists to famed tourism destinations of Gul-marg and Tangmarg. Even the shopkeepers in the area

are complaining of slump in business due to dilapidated condition of the road.

“We have developed chest complications due to dust emanating from the road and our business has suf-fered badly,” said a local shopkeeper.

When contacted, Chief Engineer, Roads and Build-ing Satish Razdan said that blacktopping of Hanjiwara-Magam road is in our scheme of things.

“We will soon start macad-imization of the road stretch in future,” he added.

Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Gee-lani, appealing people of Kashmir to pray for his recovery and long life.

“Geelani Sahab is the leader and living soul of the ongoing movement of Kashmir. He is the protector and custodian of ongoing movement not only on political but also on ideologi-cal front,” the Hizb spokesman Salim Hashmi, quoted Salahuddin as having said while addressing a meeting of outfit command council.

“Salahuddin thanked people par-ticularly youth of Kashmir for dem-

onstrating tremendous love for Pakistan on its Independence Day on August 14 and observing a complete shutdown on August 15,” the spokes-man said, adding that “It is an eye-opener for India that in presence of lakhs of troop-ers and restrictions, the people of Kash-mir unfurled Pakistani green flags.”
