PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy Holidays!! I appreciate all of our parents and students

that attended our Principal’s Talk Story (Community Meeting

#1) on November 11. We shared our STRIVE HI status and

the development process for our academic plan for 2016-17

school year. We shared the expectations for math in the

Common Core State Standards and a mini math workshop

giving parents problem solving strategies that they could use at

home. We will be having another Community meeting in January or

February, more information will be forthcoming.

Our winter recess will begin on Friday, December 18 through January 5. School will resume on Wednesday,

January 6, 2016. The school’s office will remain open during winter recess from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Monday through Friday, except on holidays. The second quarter and first semester will end on December 17,

2015. Your child’s 2nd

quarter report card will be sent home on January 27, 2016.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the Salt Lake Elementary School Ohana a very Merry

Christmas and a Happy New Year! Please enjoy a safe and joyous holiday season.

EARLY RELEASE during school hours

Please call the office before 8:30am if your child will be picked up before school ends for the day. Your

advance notice helps limit interruptions to classroom instruction.

ADULT MEAL TICKETS

All adult meal tickets must be purchased in the school office between 7:30 am to 4 p.m. By Federal law, the

sale of meal tickets and the exchange of currency in the food line are strictly prohibited. Thank you for your

cooperation.

PROMOTING A SAFE AND HEALTHY CAMPUS

STUDENTS ON CAMPUS AFTERSCHOOL

We are concerned about the safety for the large number of students remaining on campus well after 2:30p

(MTThF/1:30 p.m. (Ws) on a daily basis. The school office closes at 4:00 p.m. In order to prevent unnecessary

stress, please communicate with your families/friends should there be a change with regular transportation

routines. Again, THERE IS NO SUPERVISION AFTER SCHOOL. We have experienced incidences of theft,

injuries and misbehavior among these students. For the safety of students, the Honolulu Police Department

will be called as a last resort when students are left behind unattended beyond the school day and

unsuccessful attempts to contact parents have been made. Kama’aina Kids continues to accept applications

for their afterschool program.

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT –

For safety reasons, students are not allowed on the playground equipment after school unsupervised. Adult

supervision by a parent or guardian is required for playground equipment use.

TRAFFIC SAFETY

Please remember to practice safe driving while dropping off and picking up your child. Be aware of students in

the vicinity when driving near our school. Your child should be dropped off in a safe area (curbside) to prevent

any accidents. Please be patient and courteous toward other parents as they are also dropping off or picking up

their child on campus. Curb area fronting the school office is a drop off/pick up zone only. Please do not park

or leave your car unattended along the main driveway and please SLOW DOWN. Mahalo!

You are invited to our Winter Assembly on Dec. 17 at 8:30 a.m. in the Salt Lake District Park Gym. Our

Student Council actors will be performing a play with all the grade levels performing songs and skills they have

been learning in music class.

This year Salt Lake Elementary PTA are excited to be partnering with a fun, free, and truly easy fundraiser called Shoparoo! Schools nationwide are already earning hundreds and even thousands every year through Shoparoo and it’s a great opportunity for us to really make a difference this year! Shoparoo is school fundraising made easy: the free app turns pictures of your everyday shopping receipts into cash donations and sweepstakes entries for our school! Yep, it’s that simple. No more cutting labels, selling door to door, or time-consuming coordinating. All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap pictures of your receipts with the app, and voila Just shop, snap, earn! Get started today: 1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store 2. Select our school from the list and start taking pictures of your receipts - shop anywhere, buy anything! 3. The first 20 supporters at our school will earn an extra $1 donation from Shoparoo for their first receipt! 4. Earn even more Roo Points, or cash donations, by inviting others to join using your personal referral code 5. You can even select a grade to support and have fun with grade competitions! There’s no limit to how much money we can raise with Shoparoo - the more supporters, the more we will raise for our school. Schools with just 40 supporters are earning an average of $1,000 every year. That’s free, easy money that we could be fundraising too. Check out shoparoo.com to learn more about this awesome app! Thank you for your support!
