Members of the LDS church were gathered in Nauvoo, Illinois, where they were persecuted for their beliefs. They wanted to live peacefully so they left Nauvoo for Salt Lake City. They traveled along The Mormon Trail between 1847 and 1869. There were many hardships because they had to leave a lot behind and didnt have much food. Many people got very sick and did not make it to Utah. When the pioneers got to Utah, they had to work hard to create a life for themselves.
