The season has finished and someof our players are now also playing outsideon the green. Our matches, until now, haveconsisted of two teams of four, but in thenew season commencing at the end ofSeptember we will be playing Triples. It maybe that we will be able to enter three teams.

We have three of our members on the AvonCounty Committee, in administrative rolesand seven players who are in the squadfrom which the County team is selected.Saltford hosted a meeting of the Avonsquad on Tuesday evening.

Our members enjoy a Summer outing, aChristmas party, internal competitions (withlunch included) and a good chat with teaand biscuits during our afternoon sessions,(Monday and Wednesdays, some Fridays, together with our Friday evening sessions)So the club encourages social activities aswell as the competitive.

During the past year we have run severalopen Sunday morning sessions for thepublic to come along and try short matbowling, free of charge with equipmentsupplied. One person attended because hiswife wanted him out of the kitchen whilstshe prepared lunch, but from thesesessions we have recruited a few newmembers.

SALTFORD STATION CAMPAIGNThe petition of over 2000 signatures calling for the re-opening of Saltford Station hasbeen presented formally to the House of Commons by Jacob Rees-Mogg MP. ChrisWarren, Duncan Hounsell, Rich James and Rob Taylor travelled to London by train fromKeynsham and handed the petition to Jacob Rees-Mogg in Westminster Hall. The petitionwas presented in the Chamber later that day in a short ceremony shown live on BBCParliament. This is another boost to the campaign and our thanks to Jacob Rees-MoggMP for arranging the day, all the people who collected the signatures and everyone whoexpressed support.

The Bath and North East Somerset Council has announced that it intends to act as theofficial “promoter” of the station project and to allocate funds to take the project throughthe initial stages of development. This represents a great step forward for the campaignas B&NES can conduct discussions with the rail industry on a formal basis. Ultimatelythe decision whether a Station will be re-opened at Saltford will be a commercial oneand dependent on attracting full funding.

Saltford Townswomen’s Guild

The March meeting was well attended and,as it was the AGM, members listened to areview of the previous year and were quitesurprised and happy with the attendanceat meetings.  The speakers were enjoyedand the member who had booked themwas congratulated on her choices.  Thesecretary will continue for the forthcomingyear and a new member, Mrs. Pat Stone, will take over as the new Chairman.  Afterthis business section, coffee and cakewere enjoyed followed by a light heartedquiz.

April produced a sunny morning and theWansdyke Room was bathed in sunlightand decorated in a Spring theme of yellow. The Secretary and Treasurer presentedtheir reports and the Chairman gave noticeof forthcoming events.  Followingrefreshments, members settled to enjoythe speaker, Tony Griffith, who turned outto be a magician.  For the remainder of themorning, his audience listened andwatched his performance, his patter wasfast and amusing, and, as for his magic, itwas faultless. Even those in the front rowwere amazed and unable to fathom hissleight of hand.  A truly magical morning..Saltford Afternoon WI

The support for the afternoon W.I. hascontinued and we welcomed further newmembers to our Meeting on Tuesday 1stMay.

We had an hilarious talk by SusanMarshfield headed "You can't choose yourFamily but",  giving some examples of thesituations in which her family have foundthemselves, including her Mother sewing"Flying ducks on underwear".  There will

Keynsham & Saltford WineCircle

This is a quiet time for us as most of thelocal Wine Circles will not be holding anydances for us to attend until the wintermonths. However we look forward to ourown two course Supper Dance on Friday10th August 2012 with live music by ChrisStone. Anyone wishing to attend will bevery welcome, please contact AlanDummott for tickets.

We had a fascinating talk in April by BobPorton on Radio Comedy. It was a tripdown memory lane for us because the“talk” consisted of excerpts from the showsof Max Miller, Elsie and Doris Waters,Kenneth Horne and the Goons, amongstmany others. His was really goodentertainment (much of it before the age oftelevision) and it is all available now on CD.

The Members Recipe was the mainattraction for the May meeting. This year,it will be a white dessert wine. Percy Mellorgave us a choice of wines to taste for themembers to choose which one to make.He also read out to us some amusinganecdotes that he had taken from variousarticles.

The Wine Circle joined with the WarmleyWine Circle for a delightful weekend inFolkestone at the Carlton Hotel, courtesyof “Just Go!” Holidays. The weather waskind to us. It rained mostly when we wereunder cover. We enjoyed two steam trainrides, on the Romney, Hythe andDymchurch line and on the Kent and EastSussex Railway, visits to Hythe and Rye,and a wine tasting at the SedlescombeOrganic Vineyard. The entertainment atthe hotel was first class for the three nightsthat we stayed there.

Over the next couple of months we will behaving a talk by Brian Davies on“Yesterday’s Island” and John Gingell givingus a “Chocolate Evening”. There will alsobe a barbecue to attend which is beingprovided by Nailsea Wine Circle at Failand.

If you would like to come along to see us,we meet in the Avon Room of SaltfordVillage Hall on the second Friday of eachmonth. Or if you would like more informationabout the Circle, please contact AlanDummott on 01225 873493.
