Editorial“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity” – Albert Einstein
Everyone is relieved as 2020 has got over but turning to a new page on the calendar won't
magically erase all the hardships that it brought. The key to making 2021 a better year is
to usher in with the learnt lessons and critical mindset, without completely discrediting
2020 as it taught us to be together and stay united.
TGT ENGLISH
Happy Learning!
The year 2020 tested our resilience in ways we could have never anticipated. What can we
try and expect in 2021? This is a big question trending on everyone's mind. The previous
year tested us gruelingly by unleashing a reign of terror and turmoil. Bound by the
shackles of Corona, we remained on the defensive for months at a stretch, helplessly
witnessing the mayhem. But during the ordeal, a lot had also been brewing as the
humanity was working round the clock to annihilate the enemy. Towards the end of the
fateful year, a major breakthrough was achieved with the development of the Corona
vaccine followed by the world's biggest drive to get the masses inoculated. The outcome is
that we have finally been able to tame our once-deemed-invincible adversary as evident
from the slump in the number of Corona patients all around the world.
ILA MISHRA,
Wishing all a hale & hearty New Year
Expect 2021 to accelerate the revival with stable growth and robust immunity.

VIRTUAL CELEBRATIONS & WORKSHOPSINTRA CLASS ENGLISH ACTIVITY: NEWS VIEWS
'Self-expression must pass into communication for its fulfilment.' – Pearl S. Buck
In an attempt to nurture the budding talents and build the prospective voice of the nation, an
intra class competition named 'News Views' was organized on January 16, 2021. Dressed up
in formal attires, the students enacted as newsreaders/reporters and candidly expressed
themselves on an array of topics like COVID-19, hygiene, weather, lockdown etc. Students'
enthusiasm and sincerity while giving presentations was truly worth watching.
GENERAL AWARENESS ACTIVITY – THE PHASES OF MOON
The moon is a reminder that no matter what phase I'm in, I'm still whole.
To understand the multiple and exciting phases of the moon, a special activity was conducted
by students with the help of 'Oreo' biscuits. Under the guidance of their educators, the pupils
prepared distinct phases of the Earth's natural satellite and presented them beautifully on a
plate with proper labels. The class thoroughly enjoyed the activity as evident from the fact
that they promptly memorized the names of all the moon's phases.
A MÉLANGE OF FESTIVALS
E-REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS
“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
– John F. Kennedy
Educators shared and discussed about the significance, importance and meaning of the
Republic Day with students. Many interesting videos were shown and explained to them.
They were asked to sincerely watch the Republic Day parade. Students also prepared
beautiful cards to pay tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their life for the
nation. The session ended on the tunes of National Anthem.
To instill the divine feeling of patriotism, a host of online intra class activities/competitions
were conducted. The students of grade I displayed their creativity using 'MS Paint' on the
topic 'National Symbols'. Students presented their work beautifully using their
imagination and precision. Similarly, to create awareness and reinforce students'
knowledge, a quiz based on the 72nd Republic Day parade held at Rajpath, New Delhi
was held. Also, Extempore activity was planned during which the students were given on
the spot a list of 5 topics. This was done in order to improve the presentation and
speaking skills of young minds. Further, Hindi Elocution was organized for the students
as well. Students participated in all the activities with full enthusiasm and exuded great
confidence. They were greatly appreciated for their efforts and given certificates.
WEBINAR ON CYBER SAFETY
An important webinar on Cyber Safety was conducted with the objective to create
awareness among students about the potential risks associated with using the
internet. The resource person Mr. Dilbag Singh, Computer teacher, SPS, Gurugram,
through a nice power point presentation, elaborated on how to protect oneself from the
cyber threat and inculcate online etiquettes. Mr. Dilbag cited pertinent examples to make
students better understand the vulnerability in sharing sensitive information. The
students asked a lot of queries related to cyber safety which were answered in detail by
the resource person. As students are among the most active users of social media, the
session was of immense importance as it guided them to use the media platforms
smartly.
GLIMPSES OF EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING IN ONLINE CLASSES
The teachers of SPS, Gurugram left no stone unturned to provide experiential learning to
students during the virtual classes. Teachers, from abstract conceptualization to concrete
experience, made optimum use of the resources available at home to help students grasp
the concept in entirety.

Best inspiration
A beautiful feeling
A great person
A mother who always care
A mother who always prays
A mother who always stays
A beautiful word
A mother who's always there
I'm thankful for all things you do
You have always been the best
Better mom than all the rest
I'm glad my mom is extra special YOU!
MOTHER
By YASHI JAIN (Class VIII)
I know whose love, will love me still
It's you whose tears will come to me
For all that you do
With love and heart for you
Your love is forever strong
Never changing for long
If I were hanged on the highest hill
If I drown down to the deepest sea
Only a mother can do so.
No one else can be so
When we have fun in the house.
The soldiers are having guns for the 'mouse'
At the war time they did not eat a single piece of bread.
Till the enemy is dead.
When we see a film in bright,
they fight from day to night.
Forgot the past, Do not admire,
My India has soldiers who fire.
They don't have fear to die,
and their josh is very high.
When we play in the day,
they practice in the seaway.
So don't see the cause,
for them, let's have a round of applause.
INDIA OF MY DREAMS
By ANGEL BHATT (Class VI)
So, when it was announced that offline classes would resume in the month of
January 2021, I wholeheartedly hailed the decision. I was greatly excited as
it would bring a lot of discipline in my daily routine and help me in
preparing properly for my board examination. I was right as for the last
two months, the in-person interaction with my teachers has certainly
boosted my morale and enthusiasm, with the much-awaited union of all
friends as bonus.
This year is quite strange as due to pandemic we had to suddenly resort to
online classes for major part of the year. At first, I was quite excited about
the idea of online classes for I would finally get the opportunity to study
from the comforts of my home. But as the months rolled by, I realized that
these classes don't hold the same clout as the offline ones. I had tended to be
quite lethargic while staying at home for months and been subjected to loss
of focus.
Agreed, there's no such thing as a free lunch and I also had to try and
adapt myself for the offline schedule. Getting up early, reaching school on
time and completing the assigned homework to submit the next day have
been among my absolute priorities. All this is worth the trouble and the
efforts made by me are negligible in comparison to the lasting dividends.
A WELCOME SHIFT
By Akshobhya Sharma (Class XII)
The felicity of such an occasion is certainly being felt by most students as
holding such classes means to properly focus on studies and prepare for
exams. But easier said than done, this situation too has its own set of knots.
The schedule of students has got disrupted and they are finding it difficult to
return to their school routine. The school transport facilities are being
avoided due to safety reasons and therefore, students have to make
arrangements on their own to reach school on time. Nonetheless, on-campus
study is a privilege. Study via zoom was undeniably strenuous and students
would find it difficult to understand concepts on screen. Also, the exorbitant
screen time would render adverse impact on their eyes. Overall, there are
pros and cons of both modes of learning. To be subjective, studying offline has
given students a chance to revert to their pre-Corona routine and pursue
their studies in a much better and co-ordinated manner.
Owing to the concerted global efforts, the wrath of COVID-19 which took the
world by storm last year, has finally started to abate. With restrictions
slackening, people are breathing a huge sigh of relief. The world seemed to
have regained its alacrity and vibrancy with people scurrying out of their
houses for work, touring and visiting their nears and dears. No longer are
they imprisoned in their homes by the fear of virus. Hence, slowly but steadily,
life is coming back on track. Conspicuously, many are finding it difficult to
adapt to this transition. One of the sections which is on the receiving end of
pandemic is the student community. With the outbreak of virus, students
were compelled to take online classes. It was, then, an arduous experience for
them to study in a virtual environment. Little did they know that the same
problem of switchover would haunt them a year later too. With the pandemic
on the wane, the schools are opening their gates for students. Classes,
specifically board classes, have started to take place physically in the school.
ONLINE-OFFLINE CONUNDRUM
By Aparna Singh (Class X)
The pandemic definitely taught all of us new lessons for life. Apart from
struggling for survival from Coronavirus, we, as teachers, were struggling
to handle online classes. Here, I think our problem was not so much about a
stable network connection to conduct our classes as it was to establish an
emotional connection with our new students. At times, we had to make
efforts to remember the names, recognize faces and to maintain the
attention of students throughout the class. Although I started teaching
online using innovative ways like vivid presentations, video lessons, online
games etc., yet I felt that at times the attendance was low, students looked
demotivated, issues of backpain and burning sensation in eyes would crop
up.
Though there was a feeling of empathy and collaboration on either side but I
still feel that the energy, positive vibes, strong emotional bonding and the
overall outcome of physical classroom just can't be substituted. Thankfully
with the resumption of offline classes, the teaching and learning process is
fully back on track and has beautifully been amalgamated with the virtual
world.
CONNECT REGAINED
By Ms. Deepti Jain (PGT Painting)
Around two months back, the transition from online to offline classes was a
rather difficult one than expected. When the lockdown happened, shifting to
online classes was a necessity with no other option in sight. However, it came
with certain ramifications and the changes in the dynamics of the
classroom. In online mode, as teachers, it was impossible to be able to keep an
eye on every student. The results of this have been discovered in the visible
disinterest and short attention span that for some time cast its sway even on
the offline classes. Another important aspect that students are struggling
with is to develop their writing skills in terms of speed, creativity and
accuracy. With the exams round the corner, this also seems to be a point of
concern as we resume offline classes. The students do have an uphill task
ahead of them, but as the old adage goes- “winners never quit”. Having a
well-thought-out plan and sticking to it religiously is of paramount
importance and those who have that discipline are sure to succeed.
