This year’s Gift Catalog, published as a special edition of Window on South America, presents a series of ministry vignettes that together paint a beautiful picture of God’s

work through South America Mission. The ministries you will discover here all exemplify the core strategies we employ to achieve the vision God has given us for South America: Christ calling Redeemed Lives together to form Beautiful Churches whose impact on the world around them is Transformed Communities.

As you explore the ministries of SAM, envision the local expressions of the church in South America growing and giving glory to God through the work to which He has called us. You will also become aware of specific ways that you can direct your financial resources in partnership with SAM—to keep the good work going strong.

We are glad to provide a way for you to honor a friend, family member or organization by making a donation to these ministries upon any special occasion throughout the year; please let us know how we can help you announce your donation as a gift. We can make a phone call on your behalf, or supply you with a card to make your announcement.

We hope this publication will serve as a useful tool for you, guiding you to creative ways for giving gifts. Also, we value your prayers. We encourage you to keep this publication in a convenient drawer or on your bookshelf so you can refer to it regularly to pray for the ministries highlighted.

Thank you for your prayers and generosity. We trust that the news of God’s work through SAM will be a blessing to you.

Yours in Christ,

We praise God for the century of faithful service He has given to South America Mission. We celebrate God’s past faithfulness and joyfully commit to ful!lling our

Vision: Christ calling Redeemed Lives together to form Beautiful Churches whose impact on the world around them is Transformed Communities.

At our core is a group of missionaries and South American ministry partners makingsigni!cant sacri!ces to see the church of Jesus Christ growing and impacting the world. Our donors, both individuals and congregations who in their giving demonstrate their passion for God’s global purposes, make it possible for us to lead a mission organization towards achieving the beautiful Vision God has given us.

South America Mission will continue to do life-transforming work a continent away. Achieving our Vision will require us to engage more candidates for missionaryservice, to develop ministries that e"ectively engage the culture for Christ, and tonurture the spiritual vitality of our missionary corps. Give a gi# that allows us toengage, develop, and nurture down the road towards achieving a Vision.

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Indigenous and Rural Medical Outreach

$100 provides medicine for one village clinic. $1,000 sustains 10 village clinics serving 500 patients. $50,000 buys a new boat to reach more people.

2

BOLIVIA—INDIGENOUS AND RURAL MEDICAL OUTREACH

Send Medicaland DentalCare. Send

Hope andHealing.

Each year SAM missionaries visit remote villages along the rivers in the Beni depart-ment of northern Bolivia. We sail for 10 days down several rivers, able to visit at most

only two villages per day, some days none when the villages are longer distances apart. !e people seen and cared for say that months go by and no one comes. No one coming means that in most cases there is no gospel proclamation, no announcing of hope and healing.

We spend time with and take medical care to the people of these villages as o"en as possible, with the resources God gives us. We do it so that no one will say “no one comes” anymore, so that felt needs will be met and God’s redeeming passion for the world will be embodied to transform lives.

We embody this passion by holding medical clinics administered by our missionary doctors and nurses. Basic and regular treatment of medical conditions, which sometimes requires minor surgical procedures, brings physical relief and healing that creates a platform to talk about the complete healing of the soul that God has provided in Jesus. We can provide medical care in the villages for only $1000 per trip, about $2 per patient. Also, a newer, more modern boat with a more e!cient engine would a"ord more time on the river reaching more people; a reasonable budget for purchasing a boat is $50,000.

GIVE THIS INSTEAD! “Dear Mom: This year, in your honor, we sent medical supplies to help people who live in the Amazon basin.”

PERU —HEARTBEATS OF HOPE CRISIS PREGNANCY

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Heartbeats of Hope

Help Pave the Way forBeautiful Lifeat the Edgeof the Amazon.

Heartbeats of Hope, or Latidos de Esperanza in Spanish—a crisis pregnancy center—formed out of a partnership of seven churches in Pucallpa, Peru. !e vision is for a

community so transformed by the Gospel that the biblical teachings on purity, marriage and the sanctity of human life are upheld and honored across all generations.

Estimates state that approximately 1,100 unborn babies die each day in Peru, and 800 mothers die annually due to complications.

Heartbeats of Hope is only the 7th crisis pregnancy center in the entire country of Peru (population 30,000,000) and the "rst in the jungle region. With proper volunteertraining, strategic promotion, instructional resources for clients and some basic necessities for young mothers, we can help to literally save lives and impact young families as we care for them in the love, grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.

A gi! as small as $25 provides an ultrasound—a powerful means through which expecting moms can connect to the life forming inside. $100 will pay for one month of radio and newspaper promotion to reach more women with the news of the center’s services. $150 buys a wooden crib for a new mother to use for the "rst year.

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for CONPLEI 2012

Join anImportantIndigenous Church Movement.

CONPLEI stands for the National Council of Indigenous Evangelical Pastors and Church Leaders in Brazil. In July of 2012, CONPLEI will hold its quadrennial meet-

ing at the Ammi Training Center in Chapada dos Guimaraes, Brazil. In 1995, with the help of SAM missionaries and indigenous partners from Brazil, Ammi was founded to train leaders to strengthen and grow the indigenous church.

CONPLEI 2012 will bring together over four days an unprecedented number ofevangelical indigenous leaders. More than 3,000 will gather to propel the CONPLEI movement forward as it continues to grow the church among the 340 tribal groups of Brazil. !ere are still over 100 tribal groups in the jungles with no gospel witness.

As an expression of the strategic alliance between CONPLEI and South America Mission, Ammi, where many of the indigenous pastors have been trained, will host the event. !is will be a massive undertaking and only possible as God brings the necessary resources together. Total costs for one day of CONPLEI 2012 are $32,500. Make MinistryEffective and

EnrichMissionary

SpiritualVitality.

South America Mission remains committed to seeing thousands of local communities of the redeemed making disciples in a way that ful!lls Jesus’ Great Commission.

SAM2020 is the name we have given to our honest and careful process of renewal—a pro-cess that will allow us to honor God by being available for His purposes in us. Key to this renewal is an understanding: we are who we are because of who Jesus is !rst and foremost.

Our e"orts through SAM2020 will be given to enriching our spiritual vitality, assessing our present e"ectiveness, goals and needs as well as asking God to show us what more He would have us do. We will invest in responding to our assessments and dreams by better equipping the SAM missionary team, by improving how we resource our core strategies and ministries and by making changes that respond to the realities of our context.

We will coordinate the SAM2020 renewal across multiple countries and with over 100 missionaries and South American ministry partners. We need materials and resources that guide us through the renewal process, ground our spiritual vitality, encourage us to dream, and equip us to run the race to see God’s vision become reality.

BOLIVIA—AYORÉ GIRLS CAMP

7

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Ayoré Indigenous Outreach

$35 sends one Ayoré girl to the seven-day, 2012 camp. $150 subsidizes a mid-year “mini” retreat for 10 girls.

The Hope ofRedemptionandTransformationis Theirs–Make It Known.

A di!cult, stark reality of a situation in Bolivia: Ayoré girls, some as young as 12, spend many days bound by the shadows of prostitution and drug use. God called South

America Mission over a half century ago to the Ayoré people. As we continue to go and respond, our message continues to be one of redemption and transformation in Jesus Christ. "e stark reality of Jesus: He is able to make beauty from ashes, somethingbeautiful and pure out of violated innocence.

In response to these realities, the SAM ministry team in Bolivia held a camp for Ayoré girls in July, 2011. Hopeful for perhaps 30 girls to come, 70 in the end came over seven days to hear the message: “Dupade checae yoque”, i.e., God Transforms Us.

In partnership with Gather Network and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, mid-year “mini” retreats will maintain contact and follow-up with the girls. And, a#er a hugelye$ective inaugural major camp, it will become an annual event—planned next for July 2012. We need your partnership to keep reaching these Ayoré girls. Send one girl to camp for $35, or create the space for discipleship to happen through one of the mid-year mini retreats—$150 will allow 10 girls to attend a retreat and begin to go deeper understanding all that God intends them to be through Jesus.

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Recife Redemptive Ministry

$25 !lls a food basket for a family in need. $350 builds 10% of a new home in a developing community.

in Brazil.

Craig and Mary Delille walked through Frei Damião, a forgotten section of Dois Unidos, on the outskirts of Recife, Brazil, and knew right away their calling to provide adequate

housing to replace the patch-work tin and tarp-covered homes in which many families were living. !ey soon learned that behind the thin veils of homes were other desperate needs like food and literacy training. Most notably, there was the need to know that God’s love extends to every corner of this world, especially to the seemingly forgotten places.

In partnership with local churches, our desire is to respond to the felt needs we encounter in South America, demonstrating God’s heart for the poor in their local communities.

SAM’s Redemptive Outreach in Recife provides food baskets as a way of addressing felt needs while longer term, sustainable change evolves. We are also building modest but safe and secure homes in communities like Dois Unidos for $3500 per home—$2500 for materials and $1000 for labor.

A gi" of $25 buys a food basket that gives necessary sustenance —and a big dose of hope. A gi" of $350 is like placing a foundational brick in one of the new homes in developing areas of Recife. You can make an immediate impact with gi"s to this ministry in Brazil.

COLOMBIA—WAYUU MINISTRY IN THE GUAJIRA DESERT

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for the Wayuu Ministry

Help The WayuuReach Out inThe GuajiraDesert.

Each day before dawn at 4:30am, a Wayuu pastor o!ers a devotional over the Oasis Radio broadcast to the Wayuu people in the Guajira desert of northern Colombia. A

devotional begins the day and all the way until 8pm this ministry keeps its broadcast live with gospel teaching, music, news, and advice on topics ranging from health to agricul-ture. Also, for an hour each day, Oasis shares a broadcast to its Spanish-speaking audience from the HCJB radio ministry in Ecuador. Disseminating meaningful content with the power to transform lives is at the heart of Oasis’ mission.

Radio is a powerful tool—sometimes the only tool—to reach people regularly with news of God’s love and redemption. South America Mission, in partnership with a Wayuu church association in the Guajira called FUNDIEGUA, is passionate to see Oasis make Jesus’ name famous through its broadcast ministry.

ALL FIELDS—CHURCH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

10

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Church Leadership Development

DevelopLeaders forthe Church

in SouthAmerica.

In Bolivia, the Center for Integral !eological Education (CIET) trains the working-class men and women in the urban center of Santa Cruz to be leaders in the church.

In Brazil, the Ammi Training Center serves indigenous people from the over 340 tribal groups of this great country. To the north in Colombia, CENFOW is a church leader-ship development center for the Wayuu people who can claim only one pastor for every 45,000 Wayuu. In Peru, the Ashaninka Bible Institute (IBA) is instrumental in developing the many small churches that are springing up among this people group of 30,000. Also in Peru but in the jungle center of Pucallpa, an initiative called INTEP, focused on a more semi-literate demographic, is preparing leaders to be agents of transformation in a city that in recent years has experienced a rise in violence and abortion.

Our aim through leadership training: agents of transformation, "rst grounded in Christ. !eir impact is more glory to God through redeemed lives and transformed communities.

!e cost of preparing Godly leaders—agents of transformation—in places like theAmazon Jungle is almost insigni"cant compared to North American standards. For just $50 per month, or $600 per year, we can train well a leader whose heart is set on transforming the world for Christ.

BOLIVIA—CHURCH PLANTING

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Bolivia Church Planting Project

Purposes.

Missionaries to Bolivia, Tom and Janine !rossel report of a new, rural church plant in Santa Cruz. !e congregation is now close to 80, and, mostly made up of children.

!at’s right, children—many from families devastated by alcohol abuse—who catch a ride in the pastor’s truck each Sunday to meet in an open yard. “It’s a scene so basic and bare, but beautiful, these children and a few adults so hungry for God’s word,” remarks Janine.

!is "edgling congregation is about to outgrow the space they have been given use of for a year. !ey’d like to have a shelter on a piece of land that is theirs with a few Bibles and places to sit—a space that is conducive to their regular meeting, where they can beattentive and worship, and where they can invite their neighbors in…being the Church.

!e Church of Jesus Christ is the people of God, redeemed and transforming the world. It is not a building, nor a tent with comfortable seating—yet those things are indeedencouragements to Christians, and attractive to neighbors who need to hear the Gospel.

ALL FIELDS—CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

12

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Children’s Ministry

Help Meet theSpiritual and

Physical Needs of Children.

In each context of ministry in South America, we realize the importance of capturing the hearts and minds of children for Christ. !at is why missionaries like Frank and

Luz Zaijek in Gaira, Colombia, lead a thriving AWANA ministry in partnership with the local church. Or why the Children’s Ministry Team of Bolivia holds day camps for Ayoré children and weekend “Princess” conferences for girls discovering their identities in Christ. Or why missionary Matthew Morrison in Paraguay puts structuring a meaningful Children’s Ministry in local churches at the top of his priority list.

Children are o"en the most receptive to God’s love, but they are also the most vulner-able to believing that the brokenness they experience is all they can ever expect out of the life given to them. We need to teach them, to show them the true love and wholeness in Christ and how the experience of Christ’s love changes everything.

“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and greatshall be the peace of your children.” Isaiah 54:13

PERU—THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION

14

GIFT SUGGESTIONS for Church-Based Theological Education

• $10 sends a church leader through one ETBIL training level. • $65 sends a local pastor through a Leadership Series course.

Raise Up aLeadership Corps From

Within theLocal Church.

Five years ago, SAM missionaries in Peru planted Iglesia Mil Palmeras, also known as Thousand Palms Church. Today, Mil Palmeras is transforming its community by

embodying the Kingdom of God. With over 400 congregants, they are now exploring planting a daughter church in another town in the Amazon jungle.

The charge to be used as vessels to transform lives is growing out of a lay movement within Mil Palmeras. An important tool for equipping these lay leaders is a church-based theological education program called BILD (known as ETBIL in Latin America,“Educación Teológica Basada en La Iglesia Local”). Recently, the congregation of Mil Palmeras began training using ETBIL resources as a regular part of weekly worshipservices. There are also 12 pastors local to the area of Mil Palmeras who, alongside MilPalmeras leadership, have committed to the ETBIL Leadership Series.

This educational model is accessible, affordable and effective for many in the Latin American church. You can send more leaders at Mil Palmeras through deeper levels of ETBIL training for only $10 per person. Local pastors can pursue each level of the Leadership Series for only $65 per level.

GIVE THIS INSTEAD! “Dear Dad: In your honor, we are investing$65 to help train a pastor in Peru to impact his world for Christ.”
