• Networks of like minded Montana leaders experiencing similar job roles and context to share challenges, successes, and thought leadership.

• CLN’s direct their own shared learning –how often they meet, topic, formats; face-to face, online, telephone.

• Each CLN Member has their own personal objectives but they also share a common purpose within the CLN.

New, experienced, and aspiring Montana educators each with individual goals based on

their personalized professional learning plan will benefit from SAM LPLP.

The SAM LPLP 2017-18 End of Year Data Collection Report consists of 1203 entries and 14,456 data elements. The report indicates the number of hours (to the nearest quarter hour) the Providers have spent in contact with their Members was 972 hours. The report also shows the estimated application time recorded by the 69 Members was – 1080.5 hours. The total time spent by Providers and Members was 2052.5 hours. Note that the commitment of the 69 SAM LPLP participants is an average of nearly 30 hours for each LPLP Member during the 2017-18 year to improve student learning through participation in the SAM LPLP.

The SAM LPLP 2018-19 Mid Year Data Collection Report consists of 550

entries and over 6,600 data elements. The report indicates the number of hours (to the nearest quarter hour) the Providers have spent in contact with their Members as of December 31, 2018 – 329.00 hours and the estimated application time recorded by the 54 Members as of December 31, 2018– 385.5 hours. Note that the commitment of the 54 SAM LPLP participants is an average of more than 7 hours for each LPLP Member during the first half of the 2018-19 year to improve student learning through participation in the SAM LPLP.

With the assistance of the HELPS (Human Ecology Learning and Problem Solving) Lab at Montana State University, new SAM LPLP Member and Provider surveys were implemented for the 2017-18 program year.

Member Survey Results

Provider Survey - Based on the Provider Survey results, ALL Providers felt their time spent with Members to be beneficial and saw much improvement in their Members. Also, 75% of Providers rated their Members to be extremely or very engaged in the program.

Member Survey - Members (58 of 69 Members or 84% response rate) rated their satisfaction with the program overall, their work with a Provider, the use of the Resource Center, and their work with Collegial Learning Networks.

63 of the 69 LPLP Members chose to work with a Provider during the 2017-18 program year. Of the Members working with a Provider that completed the survey, all enjoyed the experience.

o The vast majority felt that working with a Provider was beneficial (90%),

o they learned from their Provider (94%), o developed a sense of trust with their Provider (94%),o grew as a professional because of their Provider (90%), o and received meaningful feedback from their Provider (88%).

o “The never-ending access to help and advice when I needed it. I consider him one of my lifelines!”

o “The knowledge I have gained from SAM (LPLP) is going to be long-term beneficial to my career.o “Having a one-on-one coach that I trust and can openly ask questions and receive advice and

insights.” o “I have found school administration to be somewhat isolating, so I enjoyed building a trusting

relationship outside of my district.” o “My favorite part about working with a provider is having someone to talk to who is removed

from the school but who has probably had similar experiences as I am having. It is comforting to know that I can rely on him to find the resources I need to address any situation, need, or concern.”

o “Knowing that I was not alone in my process and journey, feeling supported.”

The following are responses provided by Members when asked about their experience working with a SAM LPLP Provider:

55 of the 69 LPLP Members participated in at least one Collegial Learning Network during the 2017-18 program year.

Of the members that completed the survey the majority agreed that because of their work with a CLN:

o they met personal objectives, o shared and received resources, o learned and applied new strategies to their current position,o found the network helpful to their current position, o improved student learning.

84% of members rated overall satisfaction with the program: their work with a Provider, the use of the Resource Center, and their work with Collegial Learning Networks.

Members said that due to their participation in SAM LPLP: o their professional network expanded 86% o communication with staff improved 74%o understanding of Montana school policies and procedures increased 78%o their ability to implement collaborative strategies improved 70%o progress was made on their personalized professional learning goals 71%

Considering the goal of SAM LPLP - to provide intentional, personalized professional learning to Montana educators through research-based strategies resulting in improvements in job satisfaction, administrator longevity, and ultimately to increased student achievement and quality of instruction - data was gathered around the following research questions:

o Student learning has been positively impacted. 60% agreed

o The collaborative capacity of my school or district has been positively impacted. 70% agreed

oSatisfaction with my current position has increased. 66% agreed

o Over the past five year, SAM LPLP has assisted 341 Montana administrators in meeting their personalized professional learning needs.

o SAM LPLP has the continued support of the SAM Board of Directors to provide this personalized professional delivery system to Montana administrators.

o We will continue to use the research of the CLNs to impact effective advocacy for Montana students

o We will continue to investigate the compelling evidence around educator retention discovered through the research questions.

o We will continue to be cognizant of the challenge administrators face when trying to dedicate time to focus on their own professional learning. We will continue to research methods to ease this challenge and use the goals set by each Member in their Personalized Professional Learning Plan as a guide to provide structure to the Member’s learning process.
