that little USB.
Hi, my name is Samantha Allwood, I am a self taught portrait photographer located in Roma
Queensland. I first found my passion for photography in 2012 and since then I have spent many
hours and dollars into developing my new found love. My passion is for Maternity and Newborn
Photography, but I also occassionaly venture into other portraiture fields when I have time. I just
love the magic and emotion that surrounds pregnancy and new life and love capturing the
emotions and love during this special time for families to the squishy little bundles once they
arrive.
I am a mI am a mother of three beautiful daughters who keep me very busy, Isla (5), Zaya (2.5) and the
newest addition Tahli, who arrived in April 2015. I am married to a wonderful man who has
supported and allowed me to fulfill my passion whom I am very thankful too. My husband is a
Builder in which we run our own small Building and Construction business.
My My family is always my first prioirity, then comes our Building Business as this brings in our bread
and milk, but photography is my little bit on the side for myself which hopefully one day when I
am finished growing my little family and they are all at school, I am hopefull that I will eventually
have my very own studio and focus on what I love.
I am currently an Emerging Member with the Australian Insitute of Professional Photography
(AIPP) since 2013 with the ambition to gain full Accreditiation once I have the ability to take my
photography full time.
I I would like to thank you firstly for considering me as your photographer, and I hope that I can
help create some precious memories for you and your family to treasure for eternity.
ABOUT ME
My three gorgeous
girls ...
Once you have reached your second trimester, you are more
at ease knowing that you are in the ‘safe zone’. Once you are
ready and have decided to use me as your photographer,
contact me so we can arrange a time for your session. I do
reccommend not leaving it too late, as I currently only offer a
few sessions a month. When selecting a time for your shoot,
aim for somewhere around the 28-38 week mark which is in
yoyour third trimester. Each person is different and will show
more at different weeks. You don’t have to be huge to have
your Maternity Session, I personally think it is much easier on
yourself and also more enjoyable to have your session earlier
within the third trimester. It is a personal preference and
totally up to you to decide as to when you would like to
capture this special time, it will also depend on my
aavailability as well.
I have now been photographying expecting Mum’s since early 2013 and totally love capturing
this precious time in their lives. I like to identify my style of Maternity sessions as elegant with a
touch of art. I currently only offer Maternity sessions in outdoor locations, however, I can also
work with you in your own home to capture a more lifestyle approach session. Once I build my
studio at my place, I will also be offering more stylised indoor sessions, hopefully towards early
2017, plans are complete and this year I will slowly making a start.
YYour session will typically take aorund 1 and half hours, and will involve your ability to relax and
feel comfortable with posing and having a few changes in wardrobe designs on location. My
aim is for you to enjoy your session and to feel as comfrotable as possible, so if there is
anything you are not comfortable in doing, or if there is something you really would like to
capture, I will work with you to ensure that we end up with results that you will treasure.
I do also reccommend a pre-styling session before your shoot if you are available so we can
decide on a wardobe for your session.
Lets face it, when you are pregnant, for most of us, it can be hard to feel as though we look
elegant and tyring to find nice clothes that actually fit, especially when it comes to your Maternity
Shoot can be painful. I am gradually developing a Maternity wardrobe which consists of many
items including; gowns, skirts, tops, bottoms, shawls and much more.
I liI like to make a few wardobe changes during your session which can include some of my items,
but I also reccommend bringing some items of your own. You would be suprised by what actually
can look nice on in your Maternity photos. Things you may have at home to bring along include;
any nice lingerie items, button up shirts, flowy shirts, dresses, fitted items. You can never go
wrong with neutral coloured items, white is one colour which always looks lovely in Maternity
photos. Feel free to bring along other items to personalise your photos more to you like jewellery,
boots or high heels, nice sandals. Before your session, I will arrange a time for you to come and
look look through my collection so we can style your shoot beforehand.
Essential items you must bring on your shoot are;
cool water, snacks, areoguard, sunscreen, towel
and thongs. I also reccommend bringing a
couple of sets of nice lingerie and a strapless bra.
When we arrange your pre-styling session, we
will decide what colours we will require for your
session. It is also handy to pack a little lip gloss
fofor touch ups and a hair brush if your hair will be
out.
You are also welcome to bring along anything
that you would like to include in your shoot of
personal or family significance, this can include;
baby items, lettering, boards, bunting etc. Also,
any items from your own wardrobe as mentioned
under ‘What to Wear’.
I always welcome Partners to come along and join in on your Maternity session. All the same,
you can come on your own or even bring a friend along if you like. It is actually quite helpful to
have an extra set of hands during your session with assisting of carrying equipment, props and
outfits, along with making adjustments to your posing and outfits during your session instead of
me going back and forth.
ChChildren are also fantastic to include in on your session. There is something quite magical about
siblings touching and kissing their Mummies bellies and seeing the love and emotion captured in
each image. Children do have short attention spans though, so if you are planning on bringing
along any children, I request that we only have them present for the start of your session so we
can capture a few images for you with them, then have someone who is able to collect them so
you can relax and enjoy the rest of your session.
Don’t leave booking too late as I only offer limited
spots each month, once you have decided to
choose me as your photographer, contact me with
your due date to ensure there is availability for you
when your new little bundle arrives. Once your
little one has arrived, contact me after the first
couple of days so we can schedule your newborn
sesession. Ideally for the best resutls, it is best to
schedule your shoot for within the first two weeks
after birth, while the baby is still quite sleepy and
can be moved around and positioned more
naturally. Once babies discover the joys of
stretching, it is challenging to get them to curl up
in those adorable newborn positions.
Since starting in 2013, I have photographed over 100 Newborns from the tiniest and premmie to
the nice and squishy, from the perfect and sleepy to the crying and unsettled. There will be
plenty of unexpected pee, poop, and spit up, so please don’t stress and prepare yourself. Baby
will also have fussy moments, and that is just fine. You won't be rushed through your session,
and will have plenty of time to cuddle, change, feed, and relax your little one. A newborn session
can take up to 4 hours. The studio will be kept warmer than usual for baby's comfort and safety.
So make sure you dress comfortably as it will get warm and stuffy. At any time you are
welwelcome to ask questions and I will at times include you in the shoot to assist me with some
poses and styling changes. Babies safety always comes first, and I have spent many hours in
researching the best techniques in Newborn Photography and spent a days one on one
mentoring session with Australia’s Award Winning Newborn Photographer Kelly Brown.
I have gradually been adding to my prop collection since I first started in 2013. Props do
cost a lot of money and are quite delicate, so with each shoot I have the opportunity to take
on, I have been re-investing any dollars recieved into growing this collection.
I have many little bonnets, headties, beanies and outfits just to name a few which are all
handmade by some fabulous and very creative small businesses. I also have gradually been
collecting blankets and throws, fillers and many other items which all add to the detail
created in your little one/s Newborn session.
I I always welcome any special blankets, family heirlooms, the cute hat Grandma made, or a
special stuffed toy can all be easily incorporated into your baby's first photographs. If you
have something you would like to use, please feel free to bring along to your session.
Bring plenty of nappies, baby wipes, bottles of breast milk or formula, along with any other
items you wish to be included in your baby's photo shoot. Also bring along water and snacks
for yourself as new mummies require lots of fluid and regular snacks.
MoMost photographs are taken without clothing, but don't hesitate to bring that special item of
clothing you would like baby to wear. Because accidents happen, it is also wise to bring an
extra change of clothing for yourself.
If you want to have some newborn poses including parents or siblings, choose solid colour and
coordinated clothing, but don't have everyone match. It's important to let the baby shine in
every image, so avoid clothing that can detract from the family's star of the day.
If Mum wants a skin-on-skin image with the baby, a strapless or bandeau top works very well, I
do have a few different options available in my studio wardrobe. It is also best to have siblings
attend only when it is time for them to participate in the session. It is unfair to expect toddlers
and older children to sit still and be quiet during a lengthy newborn session.
It cIt can also be helpful to bring something to bribe younger siblings with or even a soft toy that
can be included in their photograph together. Working with younger siblings can be quite
challenging, but I always try my hardest to at least capture that one image for you to treasure.
