In this issue we have a special column on Xi Jinping who will take over as the new Chinese national leader. The exciting signal out of the change over actually is HU Jintao as Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC agreed to let go his military control. Although President Hu s achievement in political reform over his 10-years service has not been remarkable, his wholehearted retirement has won applauses around and people start feeling the hope of future political reform in China. While it is still early to tell the outcome of this move but his determination has prepared for a new chapter of the Chinese history.

The volatile nature of political climate really prevents any wise mind to predict precisely any political episode. For example, a few months ago we had a special column on Wang Yang, Guangdong Provincial Party Committee General Secretary, would become a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China. The announcement of the seven appointments last week indicated that he would need to wait for al least another term. Naturally I was a bit disappointed as we did not make an accurate analysis of the then political circumstance.

Such volatility in politics really put us off in our belief that we can take control of the happenings around us; but on the other hand, such unpredictability should not deter us in our faith in ourselves and in this world. Amid all world changes we are still living on this planet; even the earth is not made by us and both of its origin and destiny are not known to us, yet we are sure that there is a Creator who is taking the control of everything in His plan.

Last Wednesday I witnessed the total eclipse happening in Cairns as live broadcast; with the display of multiple images in front of me, I was totally amazed by the beauty and wonder of the great nature as I praised God for His awesome power. That feeling prompted me to realise, in comparison, how insignificant would be the ups and downs of human or political rivalry.

I believe amid all uncertainties of the world, we can still hold on to something eternal.
