Background Information
• Mao Zedong was born in Chaochan, China in 1893.
• He was the son of a peasant farmer.• He became a Marxist while working
as a library assistant, at Peking university.
• Served in the revolutionary army during the 1911 Chinese revolution.

Political Affiliations• Mao had a great interest in the political
system, encouraged by his father.
• He worked as a kuomintana political organizer Shanghai.
• Mao became openly involved in politics in 1966 when with Lin Biao he initiated the Cultural Revolution.
• On 3rd September, 1966, Lin Biao made a speech where he urged pupils in schools and colleges to criticize those party officials who had been influenced by the ideas of Nikita Khrushchev.

How He Came To Power
January 1958, Mao Zedong launched the second Five-Year Plan known as the Great Leap Forward, a plan intended as an alternative model for economic growth to the Soviet model focusing on heavy industry that was advocated by others in the party.

How He Lost Power
• In 1969, Mao declared the Cultural Revolution to be over, although the official history of the People's Republic of China marks the end of the Cultural Revolution in 1976 with Mao's death.
• In the last years of his life, Mao was faced with declining health due to either Parkinson's disease.
• At five o'clock in the afternoon of 2 September 1976, Mao suffered a heart attack, far more severe than his previous two and affecting much larger area of his heart this is when he lost power.

Napoleon
• Mao Zedong reminds us of Napoleon because in Animal Farm Napoleon was a leader.
• He wanted to create a better life for his people.
• They both were great leaders and weren’t afraid to speak their minds.
• After gaining power they were dictators to the people.
