Fire fighting and inspections of safety equipment at ships are ex-tremely important for survival of human life , security of proper-ties and environmental protection. Before any safety material or firefighting system can be used on board of a ship, it must have successfully passed stringent tests and have been certified for use. The types of tests required depend on such factors as where the product is intended to be used, the type of vessel and the geographical areas within which the vessel operates. There are many national and international regulations concerning assurance of fire fighting and safety at sea.

The Seaman Safety Company is trying to be a doyen about providing a world-class service in the field of fire safety. We spe-cialize in all types of cargo ships and passenger ships, shipyards, oil installations, terminals and yachts to fulfill their fire&safety ob-ligations professionally and cost effectively.

The Seaman Safety Company is a full-service fire and safety company that has also produced a fire&safety service net-work all over the world. We have more than 120 members over 75 countries. The main purpose of developing an idea like this, is meeting the need of service of our countries’ ship that sail all around the world. Based on this idea, we consider that a cata-logue like this can be helpful both for our company and you par-ticipants.

SEAMAN LEISURE LIFE RAFTSEAMAN-Valise / ISO 9650-1

INSTALLATION OF LIFE RAFT ON BOARD• The valise life raft should be stowed in a place clearly marked so it can be accessed quickly

and easily. Do not stow in a place where it might become inaccessible due to other items being placed on top.

• Valises should be stored protected from exposure to saltwater.

ACTIVATION OF LIFE RAFTBefore deployment, ensure that the following is carried out:

• Ensure life raft painter line is securely tied to the vessel• Everyone should put on their life jackets• Collect any extra safety equipment such as food, water, clothes etc…• Throw the life raft overboard to the opposite direction to the wind and then pull firmly on the

painter to inflate the life raft.Inflation time is from 15 sec ~45 sec (depending on temperature)

RIGHTING OF LIFE RAFTIf the life raft inflates upside down, use the righting strap located on the bottom of the life raft in order to turn it over. Position the raft with the gas cylinder in the leeward position before attempting to turn it over into its correct position.

BOARDING THE LIFE RAFT• Try to board the life raft directly from your vessel. If possible, you should avoid entering the

water.• If someone fails to board the life raft directly from the vessel and falls into the water, they

can use the rope ladder to board.• Once you confirmed that all crew members are on board, cut the painter line, using the

knife provided (to be found inside by the entrance). Use the 2 paddles provided in the emer-gency pack in order to get away as quickly as possible from the sinking boat.

• Deploy the sea anchor in order to increase the stability of the life raft at sea.• Close the entrance in heavy/cold weather.• All crew members to take seasick tablet as per instructions. Keep calm, save energy.

MAINTAINING & REPAIRING OF LIFE RAFT• Keep the life raft clean and dry, for this purpose, use the bailer and sponges.• Carefully check the pressure of the buoyancy tubes and make sure the tubes are always

firm. If need, use the pump provided to keep up the pressure.• In case of a tube puncture, use the repair kit and adhesive provided, to repair it.• Note that the both buoyancy tubes are independent. If one tube is punctured, the other tube

will remain inflated, and keep the life raft afloat.

IMPORTANT TIPS• Always ensure the life raft servicing is up to date.• Stow the life raft at an easy accessible position.• The external light is automatically activated when the life raft is inflated. During daylight turn

off the light.• Should someone fall overboard, use the rescue quoit with 30 m line in order to bring the

survivor back on board.• Dispose of all sharp objects.

SERVICE BOATSWHAT IS HPDEHPDE (high density polyetylene) is a firm and strong substance deviated from petrol. Unlike other polyetylenes, HDPE is heavy and firm. Approximately, 1.75 kg petrol is used to produce 1 kg HDPE raw material. HDPE is lighter then water and together with its durablitiy it becomes a preffered material for marine purposes.

HPE can be shaped by molding and extrution methods. It can be processed in workshops and can be welded with special methods. It is difficult to combine with adhesives.

Although it looks like LDPE (low density poyetylene), HDPE is much more harder and molecular density of it is between 150000 – 400000. Its resistant to water and chemi-cals. HDPE’s mechanical spesifications are very good especially on impact and tension. With some additives, these resistanes are improved even better. Normally the tension resistance is like 225-350 kgf/cm2 and heat resistance is above 100 OC.

HDPE is widely used in pressure pipes, gas distribution pipes, liquid containers, machine and home appliance parts and in insulation. Lately, because of its resistance to water, it is also used in tank and boat manufacturing.

The advantages of HDPE in the boat manufacturing are;

• Since HDPE is very durable against aging and corrosion (minimum measured life is 50 years) , the life of the HDPE boat is more then the boats made of any other materials.• Tension crack resistance and crack running resistance are high, the impacts remain minimum damage.• HDPE is flexible and durable; the boats resist to worst weather conditions. Also, flexi-bility enhances the confort in the bad weather conditions.• It is easier to assemble HDPE then steel, wood, aluminum or other composite materials.• Polyethelene has anti-corrosion advantage.• With the additives, HDPE does not become fragile at the low temparatures and resists at the high temperatures.• It is not toxic and easy to clean. It is also water and dirt repellent.• It is resistant to freezing. HDPE is not effected even the liquid it contains gets frozen.• HDPE boats do not require painting or any care, especially the toxic cares.
