• In 2010, we built the world’s tallest skyscraper, the iconic 828-meter Burj Khalifa in Dubai. This was after having constructed one of the previously tallest buildings, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, which opened in 1998.

Samsung C&T is best known for intelligent skyscrapers. Our portfolio includes the world’s tallest man-made structure, Dubai’s 828-meter Burj Khalifa, as well as the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia. In building the Burj Khalifa, with its 58 elevators and 29,000 curtain walls, we applied cutting-edge technologies, including our three-day cycle method that allowed us to complete each floor in just three days.

Our Building Business Unit is equally skilled at designing and building all types of technologically challenging structures—from airports and hospitals to leading-edge electronics manufacturing facilities requiring highly sophisticated and precise engineering and construction techniques. We are global leaders in both structural design and cutting-edge construction techniques such as high-intensity concrete and hoisting. In addition, we

are known as exceptional construction managers, having efficiently managed more than seven million workers annually during the Burj Khalifa construction project alone.

Other recently completed projects include: the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the newest multi-specialty hospital in the Middle East; Samsung Comprehensive Cancer Center in Korea, Asia’s largest cancer care facility; Incheon International Airport, which is Northeast Asia’s largest passenger transportation and cargo hub; and Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a large, neo-futuristic structure that instantly became one of Seoul’s civic icons. At Samsung C&T, we continue to expand our capabilities by exploring new techniques and possibilities. INCHEON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, KOREADuring the construction of this highly complex project, we were able to reduce the construction period by five months through our state- of-the-art technology, such as our 3D steel framing and sliding construction capabilities. It was quickly recognized as one of the world’s best airports.

Civil projects such as roads, bridges, tunnels, ports, subways, and dams have the potential to elevate living standards for communities throughout the world. They also represent tremendous new opportunities for a company with our skills, resources, and global reach.

As nations everywhere recognize the need for improved infrastructure, Samsung C&T is emerging as a leader in large-scale projects, with expanded expertise in building mines and other resource development facilities, as well as hydroelectric power plants and offshore wind power projects.

Our civil infrastructure capabilities have gained broad recognition in recent years, following the completion of the Yeongjong Grand Bridge, the world’s longest self-anchored suspension bridge, and the Incheon Grand Bridge, one of the world’s longest cable-stayed bridges. In 2007, we demonstrated unsurpassed tunneling expertise in opening the five-kilometer Neungdong Tunnel, one of Korea’s longest. Our reputation continues to grow with our successful work on high-speed and mass transit rail projects in Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.

MERSEy GATEWAy, UNITED KINGDOMThe new six-lane toll bridge over the River Mersey, in Northwest England, will alienate a major point of road congestion and generate economic development throughout the region.

RIyADH METRO, SAUDI ARABIAThe $23 billion Riyadh Metro, which will be completed in 2018, will be the backbone of the city’s public transport system, with 85 stations and 178 km of tracks.

BUSAN NEW PORT, KOREACompleted five years ago, Busan’s New Port is Asia’s major cargo container hub. It features state-of-the-art cargo automation and doubled the capacity of earlier facilities.

THE UAE EMAL POWER PLANT

premier builder and a leader in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), especially in the MENA region and Southeast Asia. Samsung C&T provides a full scope of EPC, including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. As a result, we were awarded a $2.12 billion contract for the construction of the Qurayyah Combined Cycle Gas-Fired Independent Power Project (IPP). We were also named as lead contractor for the Roy Hill iron ore mine, rail and port development in Western Australia.

Our reputation in the industry has continued to grow with the recent completion of Shuweihat S2 IWPP, a combined power and seawater desalination plant in Abu Dhabi that can also produce up to 1,500 MW of electricity. To further reinforce our reputation, we signed a $587 million contract with EMAL, UAE’s aluminum manufacturer, for the construction of a Combined Cycle Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, and we completed construction of the GMR Combined Cycle Power Plant in Singapore. We are aggressively pursuing the expanding opportunities we see in energy storage and the LNG market, areas where our expertise and reputation for speed and reliability have made us a premier contractor.

THE UAE NUCLEAR POWER COMPLEX, UAEThe UAE Nuclear Power Complex in Barakah, UAE, is the first nuclear power plant project exported by Korea. The plant is constructed by Korean technology and was commented as “the gold standard” of nuclear plant construction by a former chairman of the UK Atomic Energy Authority. The complex’s four 1,400 MW state-of-the-art nuclear power plants will be on grid by 2020.

SINGAPORE LNG TERMINAL, SINGAPORESingapore’s first LNG terminal includes facilities to load, store and vaporize LNG, as well as to reload LNG cargo ships. The terminal, located near Jurong Island, can handle up to 3 million tons of LNG annually.

THE UAE EMAL POWER PLANT, UAEThe EMAL power plant, completed in 2014, supports the largest aluminum smelter ever built, with a capacity of 1,023 MW. Widely cited for excellence in innovation, the gas-fired combined cycle plant uses seawater cooling towers to eliminate thermal stress on marine life.

The complex has sophisticated high-tech security and hotel-class community facilities including a pool, gym, golf range, clubhouse and guesthouse.

RAEMIAN ROI VIEW (REMODELING), KOREAOur Raemian Roi View remodeling project in Seoul added an additional floor, enlarged the parking lot and expanded the household area, without the need to tear down the existing apartment. The project is the first in Korea to incorporate our company’s advanced external insulation finishing system, a breakthrough technology that virtually eliminates heat loss.

ICHON REX, KOREAThe Ichon Rex residential towers located on the banks of the Han River offer a gorgeous view of Korea’s main river. The residential towers are filled with luxury amenities, including a library, spa, art gallery, and golf driving range. The towers’ convenient and innovative sky bridges afford all residents easy access to all of the complex’s outstanding features.

Our apartment units, which we build and manage under the brand name Raemian, have won first place in Korea’s National Customer Satisfaction Index for 17 consecutive years. Samsung C&T’s “Raemian” brand apartments are extremely popular with families of all types due to the intelligent design and high-quality construction to provide living space for a more comfortable, functional and convenient living environment.

With more than 230,000 units constructed, we build, sell, manage and license our apartments—always with an eye toward consumer satisfaction. SEMICONDUCTOR PLANT, KOREAOur most demanding customer may well be Samsung itself. When Samsung Electronics decided to build an immense new semiconductor fabrication center within a challenging time frame, it called upon our M&E Business Unit to oversee design and installation.

DELHI METRO, INDIASince 2003, M&E has played a major role in constructing the Delhi Metro Phase 1 and Phase 2, one of the fastest-built and most safely constructed metro networks in the world, with 20 underground stations. As a result of M&E’s endeavors, the Delhi Metro Phase 3 project was also awarded to Samsung C&T in 2013, with a target completion of 2016.

TANJONG PAGAR, SINGAPOREOur new mixed-use development in Singapore’s historic Tanjong Pagar district, due to complete in 2016, consists of two high-rise towers, incorporating a 20-story hotel and a 64-story office and residential building plus a dramatic five-story podium.

MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL

Our Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) business, with nearly 1,000 engineers, procurement, and construction specialists, focuses on providing superior M&E systems and solutions to both internal and external construction clients.

Whatever the building challenge—whether it’s a high rise, high tech, healthcare, aviation, residential, rail, tunnel, road, or bridge—our M&E Business Unit is ready with industry-leading technologies and methods that ensure precision design and flawless execution. For example, our Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other 3D simulation techniques help prevent construction pitfalls and ensure the proper coordination of each project, creating additional efficiency enhancements through sequential installation and prefabrication techniques.

We also offer Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Fire Dynamics Simulation (FDS), highly sophisticated simulation techniques that calculate how air, smoke, and fluids will move through a building under varying conditions. Additionally, our Energy Modeling expertise assesses how much energy a building will consume using various design alternatives.

These innovations include new technologies that reduce noise and energy consumption while enhancing air quality. We built the complex using proprietary techniques that sharply reduce construction time and minimize defects.

GREEN TOMORROWOur zero-energy Green Tomorrow show house in Yong-in won a coveted LEED Platinum rating, the world’s highest green building design standard. The house features innovative systems that reduce energy consumption by 56% while generating the rest from renewable sources. An innovative biological reactor treats most of the water used in the house, making it safe for reuse.

Our Samsung C&T Village program focuses on developing and upgrading residential facilities in rural areas with impoverished living standards.
