Climate

• The California weather can often be compared to the Mediterranean, due to heat, dry summers and mild, wet winters. On shore, the temperature during the year varies from 40° F (4.4° C) to 70° F (21.1° C) and 80° F (26.7° C). Further inland, the summer is hot and dry, and at higher altitudes, one can perceive the stations so well marked, with cold and snowy winters. Native American tribes before being explored by a number of European expeditions throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. Then it was claimed by the Spanish Empire as part of Alta California in greater territory of New Spain. Alta California became a part of Mexico in 1821 , following its successful war for independence , but would be ceded to the United States in 1848, after the Mexican-American War. The western part of Alta California was organized as soon as the state of California, which was admitted as a state on 31 September 9, 1850.
