THESE TWO QUESTIONS SET OFF THE
PROCESS
1. What language is spoken in your home most of the time?
2. What language does your son or daughter speak most of the time?

LPAC RESPONSIBILITIES
Determines LEP status after reviewing scores of entry criteria
Recommends the appropriate educational program for each LEP student
Notifies the parent about classification and obtains permission in writing for program entry
Determines the best state testing option for each LEP student (immediately prior to state assessment)
Facilitates the participation of eligible LEP students in other special programs provided by the district
Determines exit status (reclassification as Non-LEP) upon reaching state exit criteria.
Monitors progress of all LEP students including Denial students every 9 weeks. If student is failing or at risk of failing, interventions are provided. Also monitors progress of Exited students every 9 weeks for 2 years.

3. REGION 20 CO-OP
SAISD is a Region 20 Co-Op Member: Membership is for
teachers who service LEP students. Region 20 will
provide ELL support through consultation and by
providing professional development.
Courses offered marked with an asterisk/hashtag or
both are at no cost. If PD is offered during a school day,
the substitute cost is the responsibility of the school.
4. eSTAR ELL
Identify ELL students, implement a program,
and track student progress in one application.
With eStar ELL™, districts can sort students by
language in administrative reports, access test
scores, and maintain compliant state and
federal documents.
A teacher page is being developed to view
student LEP information. LPAC Coordinators
will have access to campus data.
5. BILINGUAL/ESL TASK FORCE
The Bilingual Task Force will meet to discuss
initiatives and progress of Bilingual/ESL
programs in SAISD.

6. ADDITIONAL BILINGUAL/ESL
INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES
The Bilingual/ESL/LOTE Department is applying to TEA for
funding of 4 additional instructional coaches to support
campuses. Currently there are two coaches for all SAISD
elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, special
campuses, alternative campuses, ECE Centers and Pre-K for
SA.
Changes:
Bilingual/ESL/LOTE Department Director is Luz Garcia Martin
and Moises Ortiz is Senior Director of Special Programs.
Bilingual/ESL/LOTE is listed as a special program along with
Advanced Academics.
There will be no Bilingual/ESL funds for teachers this year.
