Immigrant numbers and growth rates are significant. Theforeign-born population in the United States tripled in the past four decades and currently totals about 37 million, or nearly 12 percent of the total population.

By 2010, the foreign-born population was expected to increase to 43 million, or 13.5 percent of the total population.

In 2000, two-thirds of all the foreign-born lived in the traditional "big six" immigrant states (California, New York, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and New Jersey), down from three-quarters in the decades before 1995.

Pro’s and Con’s Pro’s of the TOEFL- cheaper, accepted by many institutions and a lot of study material

Con’s of the TOEFL- it’s computer base only and speaking is done on computer

Pro’s of the IELTS- paper base and speaking is done in person

Con’s of the IELTS- Listening portion is done with unfamiliar words with an accent (British or Australian) and not as widely accepted by institutions.
