10 DAY LOOK AHEAD: Transbay Demolition and Construction Activities

Friday, October 8, 2010 – Monday, October 18, 2010

THIS WEEK AT TRANSBAY...

WEEKEND WORK: This Saturday, October 9, 2010, sidewalk paving will occur on the south side of Howard Street, between Main and Beale Streets, as well as on the east side of Beale Street between Howard and Mission Streets. These sidewalks will be closed for repair and restoration work. Abatement of the Terminal will continue through the weekend in order to prepare for the removal of the roof later this month. This work will occur from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM.

The Temporary Terminal contractor, McGuire and Hester, will be repairing the sidewalk on the west side of Main Street between Mission and Howard Streets. This sidewalk will be closed during this activity. Trenching and utility installation work will also occur in the Temporary Terminal phase II site between 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM.

WEEKDAY WORK: Weekday work for the demolition project between Monday, October 11, 2010, and Friday, October 15, 2010, will focus on the completion of preparations for the demolition of the roof and upper deck of the Transbay Terminal building. Demolition of the East Terminal roof and upper deck will follow.

Weekday work at the Temporary Terminal between Monday, October 11, 2010, and Friday, October 15, 2010, will focus on trenching and grading activities, as well as foundation work. Delivery of remaining site palm trees is also expected.

HOURS OF WORK: The contractors will be working between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM Monday-Friday. Weekend work may be conducted 24-hours a day with a moratorium on jack hammering and other excessive noise producing activities between the hours of 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

STREET AND SIDEWALK CLOSURE: This weekend, sidewalks on the west side of Main Street between Howard and Mission Streets, the east side of Beale Street between Howard and Mission Streets, and the south side of Howard Street between Main and Beale Streets will be closed for repair and restoration work. Due to significant progress made in the past few weeks, there will be no full street closures this weekend.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEKEND (10/15 – 10/17): The demolition contractor will continue work on the demolition of the existing Terminal East of Fremont Street. Due to the upcoming demolition of the Fremont Street Crossing, the Fremont Street sidewalk may be closed beginning Friday, October 15, 2010 until November 15, 2010.

Weekend work may be conducted 24 hours a day with a moratorium on jack hammering and other excessive noise producing activities between the hours of 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

COMMUNITY MEETINGS: Please join us for our upcoming community meetings on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. The first community meeting will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM. The second community meeting will be held from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Both meetings will feature the same content and will be held at the TJPA’s offices located at 201 Mission Street, Suite 2100.

NOTICE: The demolition of Terminal is expected to begin on Saturday, October 16, 2010. In order to safely bring down the facility, the demolition contractor will be working, at a minimum, double shifts. It is highly likely that weekend and weekday 24 hour work will need to occur between October 16th and November 15th. The TJPA has instructed its demolition contractors to make every effort to minimize the impact to the community and to progress through this phase of work as quickly as possible. However, due to the nature of this portion of demolition, safety will require 24 hour work to be conducted regularly over the 30 day span. It may also require periodic lifting of the moratorium.

Should you have any general questions about the Transbay Transit Center Project, please call Courtney Lodato or Adam Alberti, Transbay Outreach Team, at: (415) 227-9700 or via e-mail at: [email protected].

If you have any urgent questions regarding site-specific demolition activities, please call our construction activity number: (415) 409-TJPA (8572).
