Enjoy the Taste of eating right
Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
Include fruits and vegetables in a variety of ways - mixed into dishes, added to sandwiches or tacos, as a side dish, a small garnish on your
plate and/or eaten at the end of the meal.
Make at least half of your grains whole grains.
Read the label and choose 100% whole grain breads, tortillas, cereals, rice and pasta.
Cook meals with brown rice instead of white rice. Start your day with whole grain breakfast
cereals, oatmeal or whole wheat toast.
Switch to fat-free (skim) or low-fat (1%) milk.
Choose fat-free or low-fat milk for adults and children over the age of 2 years in your
family. Drink a glass of milk or eat yogurt at meals.
Eat a variety of protein foods. Eat lean meat and poultry.
Use cooked dry beans and peas in soups, casseroles, salads, enchiladas, and other dishes. Cook meatless dishes with dry beans and peas.
Prepare meals with fish or seafood at least twice a week.
Eat a variety of healthy foods. Enjoy a variety of activities.
You will look great, feel great and do your best at work and play.
Simple Meals It may seem difficult to cook good meals in our busy lives. We want it all – great taste,
healthy foods, low cost, easy and fast.
Make a plan – cooking at home will be easy!
Plan ahead. Find a day during the week when you have time to plan most of the week’s meals. You may have time on Satur-day or Sunday to make a plan.
Make notes of your family’s work and play schedule for the week. This will help you plan meals. There may be some days when you will have time to cook. There may be some days when some of the family may not be at home.
Try new recipes. There are many cooking shows on television. Cook Italian pastas, Mexican and Chinese dishes, different soups, salads and sandwiches.
Keep the Good Recipes. Create a binder or notebook with your favorite recipes for your family. Be sure to write down the simple recipes or meal ideas - sometimes they are the best!
Collect Meal Ideas from others. Ask family and friends for their fa-vorite meal ideas and recipes. What foods do they prepare when in a hurry?
Wraps Make it quick, Make it easy!
