Natural featuresThe Park’s coastal scrub, grassland, and riparian habitats host a diversity of flora and fauna. Two forks of the San Pedro Creek provide spawning habitat for steelhead trout.
Frequently seen animals include black-tailed deer, brush rabbits, bobcats, turkey vultures, and hawks. Less commonly seen are gray fox, raccoons, and gopher snakes.
Creek dogwood, arroyo willow, trillium, watercress, and several species of ferns can be found in riparian corridors. In the spring, the meadows are awash with wildflowers. The coastal scrub habitat includes a number of rare plants including the giant golden chinquapin, Montara manzanita, fetid adder’s tongue, western leatherwood, and California hazelnut.
San Pedro Valley County ParkThe 1,052 acres of this lush park offer something for everyone: miles of trail of all types, several year-round creeks, rugged coastal scrub and green valleys, a self-guided nature trail, and group picnic sites.
The North County Water District owns and manages a portion of the Park in order to protect an important source of clean water for the community.
Often sunny when the rest of the San Mateo Coast is foggy, San Pedro is popular with hikers. A favorite destination is Brooks Falls, which in the winter months drops 175’ in three tiers. To
