Dear Sandburg Families and Friends, Since this is the last Beep Beep of this school year, my thoughts naturally go to the upcoming summer break. I look forward to a welcomed break, and I trust you are looking forward to additional time together with your own children. Perhaps you’ve planned a wonderful summer vacation or extra time outside taking advantage of the many opportunities summertime allows. Whatever you do, I encourage everyone to make sure it includes fun and engaging educational experiences. I’m talking about playing math games and reading road signs while on a road trip and making games out of the everyday. Summertime allows for exploring and creating and having conversations and learning together. Have fun with it. To avoid the summer slide in learning, I also encourage you to read together and have your children read independently as much as possible. The research hasn’t changed on the impact of daily reading on student performance. The library is a great place to hang out in the summer. If you don’t have access to a public library, the Sandburg library will be open several times during the summer. Please look for additional information to be sent home before the end of the school year. Math is equally important. Keeping kids engaged with numbers doesn't have to be viewed as work or tedious practice. There are countless ways to make it exciting and enjoyable and productive. Try some board games and card games like Go Fish for 10, Making 10, OhNo 99, and OhNo 1. Dice games are fun. Farkle, Yahtzee, 24, and Math Fact Roll are a few you could play together as a family or with friends. Make up number games that include counting and adding and subtracting numbers. There are many puzzles like Sudoku and the Set Game https://www.setgame.com/set/puzzle. Whatever you do, making it fun will help your child like math instead of something to avoid. Math is not avoidable; it is something that is everywhere, so make it fun! I trust that you will all be able to enjoy a wonderful summer break. I will refresh and recharge and prepare for the best 2018-2019 year ever. Message from Health Services

If your student has medication in the Health Office, it must be picked up by the last day of school. A parent or designated adult can pick up medication during regular school hours. After the last day of school, all remaining medication will be discarded.

A new doctor’s order must be on file each school year to continue giving medication in school. All medical forms, which need to be submitted yearly are available at www.cusd200.org (Parents and Students/Health Services/Medical Forms).

If you have any questions, please contact the Health Office (630-682-2105).

Sandburg School contains some asbestos containing building materials. These materials are inspected and maintained under a management plan as required by the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). A copy of the management plans is available at the school for inspection.
