In·tro·spective FROM THE PASTOR The Lord has set before
SPBC an open door that no
one can shut (Revela on
3:8). The ques on that
clamors for an answer is:
“What does this really
mean for us?” Consider for
a moment the place in
which God has situated this
church plant. More than
47,000 cars pass this build‐
ing each day. Many people
who have visited our ser‐
vices said that they came
because of the digital sign.
Others have pointed to the
website as the one thing
that led them to the
church. S ll others admit
that friends brought them
to the church service that
day.
The open door that stands
before the church is the
opportuni es that God is
bringing our way. We touch
so many lives either through
direct ministries or indirect
ones. The groups that meet
in our building get a taste of
who we are by the people
they meet while here. Every
Sunday morning we have
guests in our worship ser‐
vice, most are first‐ me
guests. One lady recently
said that she was going to
her church and could not get
farther than this one. She
stopped in to worship with
us and received a blessing
from the Holy Spirit.
You are a messenger for
Christ wherever you go,
whatever you do and with
whomever you meet (either
by appointment or at ran‐
dom). The mandate for the
church is the Great Commis‐
sion (Ma hew 28:18‐20) and
its impetus is the Great Com‐
mandment (Ma hew 22:37‐
39). Each of us are represent‐
a ves of the church because
we make‐up this local body.
The Lord uses us to share His
love with others; o en mes
without us knowing of their
need for an act of kindness,
gentleness, encouragement
or compassion.
How people view us is how
they see the church. “Be
steadfast, immovable, always
abounding in the work of the
Lord, knowing that your toil is
not in vain in the Lord”
(1 Corinthians 15:58).
Join us for the annual Pig
Pickin’ fellowship dinner at
the church on September
1st. The fun starts at 4:30
with inflatables for the kids
and games for everyone.
Dinner will begin at 5:30.
The church will provide
BBQ, hot dogs, baked beans,
coleslaw and drinks. Please
bring a dessert to share.

In·Depth FROM THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
By now, many of you may
have learned the Leader‐
ship Team has shuffled its
officers. Due to family re‐
sponsibili es, Bev Schauer
and Don Singletary have
switched posi ons. The
members of the Team
thank Bev for all her hard
work as chair over the past
year and a half, and look for‐
ward to working with Don as
we con nue to move forward
with the business of the
church. Please reach out to
any of the members of the
Leadership Team if you have
any ques ons. In addi on,
members of the Leadership
Team will be mee ng with
church members responsible
for ministry teams in late Sep‐
tember. If you have any ideas
or sugges ons for ac vi es
the church can undertake in
2014, please reach out to the
appropriate ministry team
leader. Please be in prayer as
we begin to plan the 2014
budget.
PRAYER
Let all the earth fear the
Lord; let all the people of
the world stand in awe of
Him. For He spoke, and it
was done; He commanded,
and it stood firm.
Psalm 33:8‐9
How many mes recently
have you seen ads for ‘Back
to School’ specials? Did you
take advantage of the tax
free shopping? Have you
spent me, energy and
money preparing for those
going to school? Probably
so, and for very good rea‐
sons!
We believe learning to
read helps
We believe reading
God’s Word helps
We believe prac cing
good behavior helps,
and that God provides
teachers who can help.
The thought that we could
have been born in any other
country gives us reason to
be thankful we live in Ameri‐
ca. Yet, we realize freedom
in America isn’t free, but is
always accompanied with
responsibility.
Would you pray for:
Families as they adjust
to demanding schedules
and expenses
Safety for students go‐
ing to/from school and
for safety throughout
the school environment
Teachers to show un‐
derstanding and com‐
passion. Ask God to pro‐
vide guidance in person‐
al rela onships that
‘build up’ rather than
‘puff up’ (I Corinthians
8:1)
Wisdom for administra‐
tors/leaders concerning
personnel ma ers, deci‐
sion‐making and integrity
with financial priori es?
Our challenge is to pray regu‐
larly for those involved in ed‐
uca on at home, church, and
school/community/business
loca ons. Make a prayer list,
call them by name, and be‐
lieve that ‘prayer works.’ The
educa onal goals are on‐
going, long‐reaching and
o en shared in abbreviated
messages along the highway
such as:
“I Pod, I Pad, I Pray” or
“Wag more, bark less”

AWANA
This year AWANA is off to a
great start. AWANA meets
Wednesdays at 6pm un l
7:45pm. We offer 4 differ‐
ent programs for children
ages 2 through 6th grade.
Puggles recognizes the
learning ability of 2‐
and 3‐year olds by in‐
troducing biblical pre‐
cepts at church and
equipping parents to
teach them at home.
Toddlers love having
their very own AWANA
club just like their old‐
er siblings.
Cubbies celebrates the
spiritual poten al of
preschoolers (3‐ to 5‐
year olds) by helping
them develop respect
for God, His Son and His
Word.
Sparks ignites the curi‐
osity of early elemen‐
tary‐age kids to learn
about the people and
events of the Bible,
building a founda on of
wisdom for knowing
Christ.
T&T engages third
through sixth graders by
answering their ques‐
ons about God and the
Bible, guiding them
through this pivotal life
stage to grow in Christ's
grace.
The Gospel Project for Kids
is a class that is part of our
Life on the Move offerings
and meets at 5:30 each Sun‐
day night. Come find out
how Christ fits into the en‐
re gospel story from pre‐
crea on to eternity … and
where each one of us fits
into it. This study is a chron‐
ological meline of events

God’s word around the
world.
Gideons displays can be
found at various loca ons
around the church (there is
one right across from the
main office). There you can
find gree ng type cards
such as: in honor, on your
special day, in memory, in
sympathy and praying for
you… There is also an insert
so you can send your own
card instead of a pre‐
printed Gideons card. Use
these cards to let someone
know you are thinking
about them and at the same
me make a dona on to the
Gideons so they can place
Bibles in the hands of those
people who so desperately
need them. Dona on in‐
struc ons are packaged
with each card. 100% of all
dona ons are used to pur‐
chase Bibles.

Cover to Cover As we approach the month
of September, it marks the
me that we started to
read our Bibles cover‐to‐
cover in twelve months.
Hopefully, many of you ac‐
cepted the opportunity to
read God’s Word whether it
was the first me or mul ‐
ple mes for you. If you
read the Bible, I know you
have been blessed and you
have drawn closer to God!
Please let the church office
know by the end of Septem‐
ber 2013 if you have finished
your reading of the Bible so
we may take note of this
most important accomplish‐
ment.
Needless to say, the most
important thing is to read
the Bible. The reading of it
in twelve months is just a
goal to help mo vate us.
Many of you have read it
in much shorter me, but
the key is to read it cover‐
to‐cover and honor God
and show Him the love He
deserves from us.

sounds crazy, but it wasn’t,
because God’s plan was to
get the glory in that
ba le. A er the final shout
and the taking of Jericho,
there was only one person
that could receive the glory,
that was God. He does this
in our lives as well. We
might think we are up
against an obstacle that can‐
not be moved, but we have
a God who takes care of his
people for his glory.
David Pla in his book Radi‐
cal says about this scripture:
“This is how God works. He
puts his people in posi ons
where they are desperate
for his power, and then he
shows his provision in ways
that display his greatness.”
Are we allowing God to dis‐
play his greatness in our
lives today, allowing him to
work in us to overcome our
obstacles?
A quick thought,
And at the seventh me,
when the priests had blown
the trumpets, Joshua said
to the people, “Shout, for
the LORD has given you the
city." Joshua 6:16 ESV
We have all heard the story
of Joshua figh ng the
Ba le of Jericho. If you
grew up in the church, you
might have even learned a
song about it. It is a popu‐
lar story that many are
familiar with, but there is
much to learn about the
way God worked in this
narra ve.
Joshua was leading the
Israelites into the promised
land and it came me to
take their first city. They
arrived at Jericho only to
face an extremely well for‐
fied city. It didn’t look
good for the Israelites. God
then told Joshua to march
around the city for six days
and blow horns, and in do‐
ing so, they would win Jeri‐
cho (Joshua 6:1‐6). This

professors were asked a

the “science” behind evolu‐

the ques oning was done,
they were le dizzy as they
realized what they thought
