TYPES

1. PVC

2. uPVC

3. cPVC

4. HDPE

*Thermoplastic materials meaning they become liquids at very high temperatures and

glassy at very low temperatures

PVCPolyvinyl Chloride

• A synthetic thermoplastic materialmade by polymerizing vinylchloride.

• It is made softer and more flexibleby the addition of plasticizers.

• It is the third-most widely producedsynthetic plastic polymer, afterpolyethylene and polypropylene.

• The flexible forms are used inhosepipes, insulation, shoes, garments, etc.

UPVCUnplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride

• If no plasticizers are added, it is known as uPVC(unplasticized polyvinyl chloride), rigid PVC.

• Used for pipework, window frames, and other structures.

CPVCChlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride

• CPVC is a thermoplasticproduced by chlorination ofpolyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin.

• It is significantly more flexibleand can withstand highertemperatures than standardPVC.

• Uses include hot and cold waterpipes, and industrial liquidhandling.

HDPEHigh-density Polyethylene

• It is a polyethylene thermoplastic madefrom petroleum.

• Sometimes called "alkathene" or "polythene"when used for pipes.

• It has higher strength, is harder, and canwithstand high temperatures.

• They are found to dampen and absorbshock waves minimizing surges when usedin underground.

• Have the best joint pressure resistance andare also more abrasion and heat resistant.

• Used in the production of plastic bottles,corrosion-resistant piping, geomembranes, and plastic lumber.

PPRPolypropylene Random

• Interplast PPR pipe and fittings are a hot and cold watersupply system.

• It is suitable for all potable water applications and heatingsystems.

• The pipes are made from Beta PPR, the most advanced PPR.

7

GIGalvanized Iron

• GI pipes are manufacturedusing mild steel strips ofLow Carbon Steel Coils.

• These pipes are cheaper, light weight and easy tohandle.

• These are generally usedfor distribution of treatedor raw water in rural orurban areas.

• It is Costly Compared toPVC / CPVC.

• G.I Pipe is Costliest of bothMS and CI.

PEXCross-linked Polyethylene

• PEX has very high chemical, electrical andtemperature resistance, enduringtemperatures up to 150 Celsius and Voltagesup to 50 kiloVolts.

• It has quick and simple fitting connection.• PEX used for pipe and tubing is made

from HDPE.• Used in hydronic radiant heating and cooling

systems, domestic water piping, and insulation for high voltage electricalcables, natural gas andoffshore oil applications, chemicaltransportation, and transportationof sewage and slurries.

ABSAcrylonitrile Butadiean Styrene

• It is generally suitable for conveyance of potable water, slurries and chemicals.

• Used for chilled water applications and compressed airlinesystems.
