FIELD REPORT 11.03.2013B

PART 02

Location: Magnolia Bluff County Park

Date: Sunday, 3 November, 2013

Time: 1100am to 0330pm, CDT

Weather: Sunny and breezy, colder in the afternoon

Present : Myself, and others (names changed and/or withheld for publication)

Sanjay’s Note: Certain portions of this Report may be more subjective in their aspect; the reader’s gracious

indulgence is requested. Not all of these phenomena are understood; they are included here, nonetheless, as an

integral and vital portion of my investigation.

Items Noted:

I continued to Magnolia Bluff State Park,1 a large, heavily forested area, which I had not investigated

previously, but felt might be worthwhile. The park lands are quite steep, and rocky; there is a carpark at the

base of a high, wooded ridge, and another at the crest. Both access several hiking paths through the woods,

commanding fine views across the countryside.

I arrived at the top of the ridge; there were several vehicles in the carpark, and more people arrived throughout

the morning. Several persons were hiking the paths, enjoying the autumn foliage, and the sunny weather.

I passed over a small footbridge spanning a shallow ditch, through a narrow belt of trees, and into a wide, open

meadow. Ahead, a path led to the northwest, through the woods. As I entered the woods, I observed some

people walking ahead of me; the path seemed to wind back and forth, crossing other paths through the trees. I

continued walking forward; the trees, and the brush, grew thicker; I seemed to be parallel to the crest of the

ridge, and the land sloped sharply down, into a heavily forested ravine.

And then, I heard something.

A pair of loud, clear ‘whoop’ calls came from the ravine, deep in the woods below me.2 I stopped, and stood,

listening, but the sound was not repeated. I could not believe what I had just heard (or, at least what I thought I

had heard)!3

Continuing on the path, I observed, deep in the brush, a large, vertical ‘X’ formation, built around the stump of

an old tree; it was rather complex, utilising many different components.4 Nearby, I observed, and

photographed, some other branch assemblies that were clearly artificial, but not as large.

These photographs present the large, vertical ‘X’ formation observed in the woods near the path; notice how

the larger, heavier component is supported and maintained by the smaller, slender branches. Also notice, in

the second image, the application of smaller twigs and sticks to stabilise the formation.

These photographs present a small ‘star’ or ‘asterisk’ assembly observed in the woods, just off the main path,

and just to the east of the large, vertical ‘X’ formation. Again, notice the larger, heavier main branch is

supported by smaller, thinner components; additionally, notice the use of multiple component species with

contrasting bark colours and textures.5 It is my own suggestion that the weight of the larger, heavier

component serves to stabilise the assembly as a whole, via the high tensile strength of the smaller branches.6

(Continued on next page)

5 As defined by Sanjay R Singhal, the four (4) features which define a branch assembly are as follows: clear, present interweaving of

components; multiplicity of component species; multiplicity of component sizes; and visually contrasting component species colours,

bark, and textures. To this may be added the application of long, slender components supporting large, heavier ones, and/or the

stripping of leaves and twigs from the components, although these are not always observed. 6 The tensile property and strength of a curved piece of wood is astonishing, and can be quantifiably measured. Casey J Mansfield.

These photographs present the long, sawn-off trunk positioned in a slanted-branch formation in the crook of an

upright, living Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera)7; notice its massive length and girth. Also notice the very thin,

slender sapling in the foreground; remarkably, the curvature of its trunk acts as a counterbalance.8

I continued to document the branch assemblies and the ‘X’ formation, and, suddenly, felt quite odd.

I recall that I said, “I feel like I’m being watched.” 9 10 11

Just then, I looked up the path, towards the meadow, and saw a man standing there; he had not been there a

moment before, but I could not recall seeing him approach. He simply appeared on the path, and I could not

shake the impression that he come there, purposely, to see what I was doing.12

He was a strange-looking man; I have not seen his like before. He was not tall, about a foot shorter than I, with

a large, egg-shaped head, that seemed rather oversized for his body. He had large, dark eyes, and his clothes

seemed of a strange manufacture; they did not appear real. His movements were also rather odd; he walked

quite smoothly, over the rough path, as though he were gliding upon it.13

He looked directly at me as he came up the path; he did not smile or speak, but continued along the path to the

northwest. After a few minutes, I continued walking, but more slowly; I did not want to overtake the strange

man, but I did not wish for him to look behind, either. I turned to look at something, and when I looked back,

he had disappeared.

I observed, further along the path, a most unusual sight: a long, sawn-off trunk, positioned in an almost perfect

slanted-branch formation within the crook of an upright, living tree. Its lower end was buried deep in the brush;

its upper end was supported by a tall, slender sapling, slightly curved.

These photographs present the large, unusually-shaped tree in the centre of the path; notice the incredible

twisting and distortion of the large, heavy branch, high off the ground.

I could not find the stump from whence the trunk had been sawn; I searched the area, but did not find anything.

Nor did I find any evidence of cutting or logging; there was no sign of mechanical work, anywhere.14

Continuing along the path, I observed, a large, unusually shaped tree in the centre of the path. The branches

were twisted and torn about it in a most tremendous fashion; I had never seen anything like this before.

Further along the path, I observed another long, suspended branch, positioned high above the ground.

I had observed, as I was walking, a series of rather unusual marks in the ground; my initial impression was that

of a White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)15 which had overlapped its own prints.16 17 Each track

presented the appearance of a three-clawed foot.18

It was a highly unusual track; I took several photographs.

Curiously, the tracks were consistent in their size and shape; they did not appear accidentally formed, or

overlapped. They continued along the path for a short distance, and then disappeared into the leaf-covered

undergrowth of the forest.

I did not, regrettably, have further leisure to examine the tracks, or to look for more; in the distance, I observed

the strange man returning along the path. I recall that I felt distinctly uncomfortable, as he approached, and I

decided to return to the meadow.19

These photographs present the unusual three-clawed tracks observed along the path; no further review has

been performed on these images, nor have I been able to conclusively identify same.20 21

I also realised that I was feeling rather strange, almost light-headed.22

I returned to the meadow, where I watched the path, for signs of the strange man; I saw him, passing through

the trees, and thought I might photograph him, for record purposes.

The camera would not operate; the shutter refused to open, or close.23

I must confess, I expressed some rather strong language towards my camera; its malfunction was

preposterous.24 The camera had been working perfectly all morning; I had fully charged the battery before

leaving the house. I felt increasingly uncomfortable, and decided to leave the area.25

I went down to the lower carpark, at the base of the ridge, and passed along a wide, flat path parallel to the

shoreline of the pond. The shore is heavily overgrown with tall swamp grasses and cattails; it was quiet and

still. There was no wind; the autumn sun was quite hot.

I walked around the pond, looking for tracks, broken reeds, etc, but did not find anything. Nonetheless, I recall

that I felt unusually breathless, as though it was difficult to breathe; there was a feeling of expectancy, of

waiting, but I did not know…for what, or for whom.26

I started walking back to the main path, passing between large, thick stands of reeds.

These photographs present the unusual, three-toed track found at the base of the ridge; they are quite strange.

The three toes are pointed, and resemble the hoof-print of a White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus).27 28

Notice the square imprint just above the toes, and the clear mark of a boot-heel below. It is not known what

made either; the rest of the boot was not observed anywhere else along the path.

Something…moved.

Just to my left, there was a loud, rustling sound, as though something quite…large…had deliberately moved

through the reeds.29 I stood quite still, and tried hard not to breathe. I did not know what to do; I was alone,

and still some distance from the main path, where I could see people walking.

So, I spoke aloud.

“Who’s there?” I asked.

There was no answer; nothing stirred. I peered closely into the reeds; it seemed that a large, dark shape was

hunched in the shadows.30 I could not see it clearly; I could not identify it.

I found more three-clawed tracks in the soft, damp mud of the path, which I again could not identify. They

were quite similar to those I had found higher up on the ridge, albeit in dry earth. These tracks were more

defined, clearer; but they seemed strangely…sinister.31

I continued walking along the main path, now plunging into heavy woods and beginning to slope up and around

the tumbled, rocky sides of the hill, mounting up to the ridge. The woods were beautiful in the autumn sun, a

dazzling array of gold and green, dappling the ground with light and shade. Ahead, just to the right, I observed

a curiously shaped, large slanted-branch assembly, built around a living, upright tree.

These photographs present views of the path as it approached the north side of the park; the large, slanted-

branch assembly is visible in the first two images. The third and fourth images present views of the woods; I

began to feel quite strangely dizzy when I took the third photograph.

But, I did not investigate it.

I began to feel, once again, strangely dizzy; the woods and the light and the leaves all began to swim, around my

head, and I could not focus on anything. I bent forward, supporting my hands on my knees; I thought, for a

horrifying second, that I might vomit. Everything seemed to turn upside down; I stumbled forward, and found

my way back to the path.32

I returned to the carpark, and left the area.

This concludes Part Two of this Report.

FIELD REPORT 11.03.2013B

SUMMARY

Substantiation of this Report is minimal at best; I do not know of any other persons conducting research in this

area of Wisconsin. There are no published reports for Rock County on the BFRO website, although two reports

for adjacent Dane County are available.33

The combination of physical, visual, audible and/or olfactory events described in Part One of this Report are:

1. The reported, possible EC activity in the area;

2. The observation of movement in the brush;

3. The observation of a tall, grey figure, ducking back and forth between the trees;

4. The possible slanted-branch assembly observed in the trees.

The combination of physical, visual, audible and/or olfactory events described in Part Two of this Report are:

1. The pair of loud, clear whoops heard at the bottom of the ravine;

2. The large, vertical ‘X’ formation observed in the woods;

3. The smaller ‘star’ or ‘asterisk’ branch assemblies observed nearby;

4. The strange-looking man, who appeared suddenly on the path;

5. The feeling of dizziness or disorientation experienced in the woods;

6. The long, sawn-off trunk positioned in the crook of an upright, living tree;

7. The large, unusually shaped tree with twisted, distorted branches;

8. The series of strange, three-clawed tracks impressed deeply into the path;

9. The returning feeling of disorientation experienced in the woods;

10. The malfunctioning camera;

11. The sounds of movement in the reeds, at the base of the ridge;

12. The large, dark shadow observed in the same area;

13. The additional, three-clawed tracks observed in the mud;

14. The strong disorientation experienced in the woods.

These behaviours, and the history of my own experiences, may be considered sufficient to suggest the presence

of EC34 and possibly DM35 at Magnolia Bluff County Park, in the autumn of 2013.

The strange-looking man I observed in the woods cannot be readily explained; quite honestly, I am not certain

that I wish to examine him too closely. I do not know who he was, or why he was there, or how he suddenly

appeared on the path, or even why my camera would not operate in his presence.36

The increasingly severe disorientation experienced at the park, both on the ridge and at its base, may be

considered a personal infrasound event, lacking any other definition; however, it did not prevent me from

continuing my field work that afternoon. Such effect upon my physical and perceptive senses suggest some

type of sensory manipulation, although any further clarification is almost impossible to confirm.

An unusual number of subjective events also occurred. While these cannot be considered conclusive evidence,

neither should they be discounted. Although it is reasonable to review the impact of non-objective stimuli in this

Report, such effects, while personally quite vivid and at times overwhelming, are nonetheless nearly impossible

to substantiate with any measure of certainty.
